There is a little wisdom not to jump to conclusions over one game. According to your logic, the University of Louisville would have no chance of winning an NCAA championship in March because of their poor performance and losses to Minnesota and WKU this year. Florida would be given no chance of winning an NCAA national championship because of their loss to Ole Miss. The Trinity football team would have not even played the state semi-final against St. X because they knew they would lose since they lost in the regular season loss to that team. Also, I am sure that high school (and college and pro) players always play with consistency and at a high level every game. Brett Favre surely cannot play quarterback because he threw some interceptions yesterday. Cliff Lee wins the 2008 Cy Young Award, but was demoted to the minor leagues in 2007 because of poor performance. Injuries, too, never affect performance. Deuce Finch would have quit at the start of the 2008 high school season because of the way an injury affected his performance, but by sticking to it he earned “Mr. Football” honors. Manual will probably thank you for giving them “bulletin board” material. If I were Hazard, I would be a little nervous it I had to play Manual again.

Madisonville did lose against some good teams in the King of the Bluegrass, including PRP 69-68, Male 71-57, and Centennial 84-65. Centenial is from Franklin, TN. The King of the Bluegrass notes stated that Centennial beat Madisonville about a week earlier in Bowling Green by three points. So 4 of Madisonville's losses up to playing St. X were against very quality opponents and 2 were very close games.

The Tigers have had some tough, close losses this year, or their record would be even better. Ballard loss was a long shot at the buzzer to beat them. South Laurel a one point loss. Close losses to Eastern and Fern Creek.

Why not be able to buy a ticket for the session, not just one game? Would the total attendance be that much different. The number of fans in the stands would be greater.

Sophomore transfer (from Trinity) Hayden Sweat had 4 three pointers and 27 points last night in BE's win.

The question also might be, how good is PRP this year? In the C-J, Mabrey has said that this is one of his most inexperienced teams yet.

I was impressed that the Collingsworth boy, son of the former NFL player, is playing for Highlands. I believe in the Courier-Journal this morning, it said that Collingsworth had a couple of more scholarhip offers. I remember watching his Dad play in the pros. Do the Collingsworths live closest to Highlands than any other school? What made them chose Highlands?

Very moving story about Tim Phillips and his Dad. I wish his Dad could have physically been there, but I'm sure he was so present in other ways. His Mom had tears of such pride and joy, and I'm sure wished her husband could have been there. I wish Tim Phillips the very best.

Is Highlands scheduling X or Trinity next year?

How does Highlands, year in and year out, have a quality, competitive football program? Are there other sports that they are just as consistently as strong? What about the girls sports--are they strong as well?

What a minute, All Tell. Are you suggesting that someone does not have their facts straight in this discussion? Are you insinuating that people misunderstand the issues? Are you hinting that the debate becomes illogical and more based on irrational emotion?

I've been an advocate of Highlands playing X and Trinity every year. Some posts on other threads have Highlands' fans recommending other 6A teams in Northern KY play Highlands. Why not Highlands play X and T every year?

Interesting comment, but I have to say that the Trinity fans on this message board took the high road after beating St. X. They seemed to cherish their win--with a respect of their opponent. Programs that win can become "The Evil Empire" to other schools. I made a post about the article this in the C-J about Tim Phillips and Trinity. I came away with a humble respect the young man. He became a better player when his father died of a heart attack. He said it basically woke him up to have a better attitude. "My father would get mad at me after every game because of my attitude and how I carried myself." Phillips attributes the turnaround to the death of his father, Timothy Dale Phillips Sr., after a heart attack at age 55 when Tim was an eighth-grader at Noe Middle School. "A lot of people might see it as a negative, but my main goal in life has been to get closer to God," Phillips said. "I think God took him away from me so I could get closer to God. … He will finish at Trinity being the school's leading all-time rusher--quite an honor at such a top notch football school. Phillips was asked if he felt slighted not being nominated for Mr. Football and in the All-State voting. I was so impressed when he said: “God had good plans for me, so I just trusted in God," he said. "I just went out and played and put things in his hands. … This will be my last time playing here, so you might as well give it all you've got." I do feel challenged with a NKY player, quarterback Tony Guidugli of Fort Thomas Highlands, is quoted in this morning's Courier-Journal saying "I'm rooting for Simon Kenton. I don't want Trinity to get 19 (state titles), so we can stay tied at the top." The arrogance seems to have infiltrated NKY. I've had a feeling that what might be best is Highlands to go ahead a move up one more notch so they can play Trinity and/or St. X each year.

St. X is blessed with a very strong sophomore class. Begin with Beach, who was the only sophomore to start in the St. X vs. Trinity game. Daylen Hall saw much action and made key plays, including running interceptions back for touchdowns and blocking a punt in the Manual game. Jay Hayden scored touchdowns from the HB spot. La'Mont McMurry, although injured much of the year, provides athleticism and speed. Both Ryan Loehnert and Luke Brohm saw time at the quarterback spot. Please provide more names, yet the J.V team at St. X would battle many varsity teams at other schools.
