I know coaches that emphasize both, though wins do take priority over stats.

I have a problem with the way some coaches use stats. I don't think that they are often used to bring out the best in players. For instance, I think that looking at how a player is hitting the ball and whether the player is having good at bats is better than emphasizing stats. Too, some coaches by emphasizing stats create more tension for the batter. One ball hit could be a grounder up the middle that gets in for a hit and another similar ball is caught for an out. A blooper falls in for a hit and a line shot is caught. Too, I think a greater emphasis is to help the batter maximize his at bats. It is as if some coaches claim superiority by analyzing stats without knowing how to help a batter hit better.

Even with X's artificial turf, will the weather allow the game to be played?

Interesting comment....How many teams work on playing the fence/warning track? I see so many outfields that have not prepared to field balls hit to the fence. I often see so little communication between outfielders to better gauge where the fence is. This skill takes practice and repetition. How many teams practice it?

Saw the box score in the Courier. Male is off to an 8-0 start. Baseball is a funny game, though. When you say, is Male really better than Trinity. Are you talking about the best out of 7? Armstrong pitched for Trinity. What would/could happen if Littrell pitched? These things can make a difference.

Surprisingly, Alphin and Bowles bothed pitched. Mcgrath can keep batters off balance for Butler.

St. X is blessed with a new field within the last couple of years. It has artificial turf like U of L's.

My concern is that coaches are under the pressure to win. Do they have the ability to help the players’ learn?

Great points. From what I read, this supports the scientific evidence. Too, psychology cannot be taken out of hitting when a batter is at the plate. If a batter feels that it is helping, it probably won't hurt.

Any info that a “doughnut,” weight on bat, or weighted bat is counter-productive while on deck? Particularly if facing a pitcher who throws fast, does a weighted bat help improve bat speed? Someone told me that this is a fallacy and a weight on a bat does nothing to improve preparation before an at bat.

Thanks for the clarification. I had previously gone to the Tennessee high school website I thought I saw a similar ranking system--a number like 12, versus top 20 or 25.

It was big for the Tigers to bounce back. The Tigers were down early in this game and did not quit. The two losses in this tournament were only by one run each to quality teams. Both losses could have gone either way.

Arlington was ranked number 8 in Tennessee’s Commercial Appeal’s “Dandy Dozen,” which ranks the top 12 teams in Tennessee. Arlington made it to the tournament final while losing to Yucaipa (California). The word was that Yucaipa had 3 Division I signees, one of whom was supposedly a first round prospect in the MLB draft. Louisville Trinity lost in the second round to Yucaipa. St. X was ahead going into the last inning and had Arlington on the ropes. Five or six base running errors were costly for the Tigers. The Tigers are young and learning a lot and playing quality out-of-state teams can help in this process.
