Who is Johnny Watt? I wouldn't count Corbin out just yet. Ledington will have this team ready come tournament time. He is just that kind of coach. He DEVELOPS talent and takes it as far as he can. Great Coach.

My point is that in my opinion a walk on with no benefits such as tuition, books, etc. is not as good as playing at a lower level where these things are taken care of. IMO the opportunity to get your education paid for and play ball at the same time is the most appealing part of an athletic scholarship. Getting your education paid for and being debt free when you graduate is HUGE but not everyone thinks so, and that is okay. I would advise players to consider the education package more than the athletic big school draw. Working hard in practice and the immense time committment to just benchwarm is not a very good deal to me. If others want to do it then go for it. I wouldn't and I wouldn't advise others to do so either.

You do not travel with the team, you do not get meals, board, tuition, books, you just practice and get your head beat in on your dime. If you get hurt you are just out of luck. If you are lucky, and I MEAN REALLY LUCKY you may prove to the coaches through your efforts that you deserve a scholarship and will work your way into one. This rarely happens however. Preferred walk ons and walk ons are different only in that a preferred walk on has a walk on spot on the team and a regular walk on has to come "try out" to see if they have a spot. A team can have a total of 105 players usually 85 of those are on scholarship and the remaining are walk-ons. If you have a scholarship offer---even from a lower division school I would advise anyone to take that over a preferred walk on no matter where it is. JMHO

Caleb Watkins signed his letter of intent with Eastern Kentucky University this morning at 7:30 a.m. He is excited to become a Colonel!

Watkins, after much deliberation, has decided not to play this year. He will be concentrating on workouts getting ready to play football at EKU. The risk of injury is a concern as well.

Corbin vs. Pineville has been rescheduled for Thursday. I am assuming because of the threat of inclement weather but I am not sure. JV at 5:30 p.m. and Varsity at 7:00 p.m. still at Corbin.

Yes. Great school, great coaching staff, but Caleb has committed to EKU.

Probably not. He enjoyed the visit but wants to play at the D-1 level. Also, Centre doesn't offer scholly's and to say the least it is quite pricey. The coaches were aware of his verbal to EKU but really wanted him to come and see the campus anyway.

He will sign on Wednesday Feb 4th. That is the first day that NLI can be signed.

Caleb took 2 of his 5 official visits and has now (after visiting both schools) decided to play for EKU. He was offered a full scholarship (room, board, tuition, and books) He will redshirt next year (they do this with all incoming freshman if possible) and then play RB for them his final 4 years of eligibility. Wofford is an excellent school but it came down to EKU being closer home, having an available supplort network of friends and family relatively close, and they (EKU) have an Occupational Therapy program that is ranked 24th in the nation. GO COLONELS!

I saw the form but on the one we got there was no mention of any fee. The coach never mentioned a fee being involved. I understand why there is a fee. We just couldn't pay that right now. Bills are due and we didn't have it. However, it is a great opportunity for players. Congratulations once again to those selected.

Listen, I realize that it costs money I just assumed it would be covered by sponsors. I am really not trying to knock anything. We were unaware of the cost upfront and were surprised to find out it was due within a week of the notification. Quite frankly we don't have a spare $300 just hanging around. Some people do and that is great. We don't. Just saying it would have been nice to have been made aware there was a fee from the beginning. Then maybe we could've put the money away or used it as part of a Christmas present or something. If the ring is the big cost then perhaps the player should have the option of not getting the ring so they can play if money is an issue. Also, while our boosters might have paid the fee we didn't feel it was right to ask. So, we didn't. We wouldn't accept it even if they offered. It was an honor to be nominated and selected to play anyway. Congratulations to all who were nominated and selected and good luck in the game. GO KENTUCKY! It is a nicely run event and I am sorry if this sounded like we didn't think so. :isurrender:

It was $300 this year. If this is for the ring then it should be left up to the player and their families as to whether they want to purchase one or not.

Caleb will be playing for the Wofford College Terriers next year. This college is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Do coaches send in information? How does this work? I think the CJ All State was much more accurate than the AP's but that is JMHO
