  1. Michael Colosimo from Beechwood ended his season with 57, if my count is right. He stole second and third in the region game yesterday before coming home with the BW first run on a wild pitch.
  2. If you are going to talk best defensive OF/CF, Brad Leeke from Beechwood has to be in the conversation.
  3. In my opinion, no. If I remember right, there were errors in both the 5th and 6th that contributed to the runs being scored. BW did not help themselves defensively. They also left several runners on base and in scoring position. I have to tip my hat to the NCC pitching, they did the job today. JMO
  4. NCC is a good fastball hitting team, as CCH was on Wednesday.
  5. Bertke at 75% is better than anyone else the Tigers have. No disrespect, facts are facts. Johnson was hit hard his last outing against a team that does not hit the ball all that well in Cov Cath. Smith has struggled since beating Boone who was in a bad hitting slump at the time. Both have walked several batters and given up big hits at bad times. If you don't have or can't get the breaking stuff for strikes you will struggle against the better teams. Suchanek (sp?), the freshman, may have been the best option if there was one. Congrats to NCC. They took advantage of every chance and hit the ball very good this game. Good Luck the rest of the way. Great season Tigers! A 30 win season is something to be proud of. It just shows how good they hit the ball and played defense early on to get there. Good Luck to all the seniors moving to play or just go to school. Thanks to all the coaches for your hard work and dedication.
  6. Do they let you leave and return during the day?
  7. From the KHSAA site: 1000- Mason vs GRC 1230- Nicholas vs Campbell 300- Harrison vs Brossart 530- Bourbon vs Bracken The first round is set for May 30, second round June 1 and Championship is June 2. Games are scheduled for Campbell County High
  8. We both know that won't be a problem. LOL
  9. I agree. Lauman and Dougie T should both be available for the championship. CCH isn't in bad shape and should have someone decent ready to throw in the 'ship.
  10. Still catching up on scores. I see that now. I am sure there are some hoping for better fortunes than BW and Conner in the first round. The way it seems right now, I will have to go with Cov Cath to win it. If they get the right draw Maile could be saved for the 'ship. I am sure he will throw some before that though.
  11. I also agree Clyde. I know the ruling in the BW and home team book was an E-5. I believe a good throw would of had him. It would of been close though.
  12. I will go part way with you future coach.... I agree Newport "Could" be a tough game on a given day. They have some very nice players with a lot of ability. The tough thing with them is catching and throwing the baseball at times. It seems to come up at bad times for them. For example, 2 runners on and 2 outs ground ball in the infield to end the inning and it gets booted or thrown away. This makes it tough on the pitcher and he throws more than needed and the staff is not all that deep. They have a couple very nice pitchers who can't afford to overcome the errors. I do not intend any disrespect. This is how I see it. Most young pitchers can not overcome errors. I do not recall BW having to score runs late to win. It seems to me they had a lead and Newport may have scored a couple late to close the gap, I could be wrong. The 5-0 game never seemed in question to me. BW had that game in hand I believe. The closest game was the one at CCH. I thought that score was 12-8. The bottom line there was if they take care of the baseball, Newport would have won that game. Myerhoff told Krumps during that game he would not have to fertilize is field because BW had dumped all over it. I really do not want to see Newport again. How many times can you beat one team in a season? I don't want to know the answer just in case it is 4.
  13. Is there a difference in facing Boone/NCC/Dixie in the first or second round? I know this has been debated on here before. I thought most were in favor of throwing your ace in the first round to make sure you get to second round regardless of opponent. I say you set your pitching to win it all. I see no difference in losing in the first or second round. I know you have to win the first to have a chance to win the second. If you play one of those big 3 in the first round you throw the ace. If you face them in the second, you probably faced a slightly weaker opponent in the first round and threw the #2 and have the ace throw round 2 I would guess. JMO I remember a couple years ago everyone said Myerhoff was crazy for not starting his ace vs Highlands in the first round, Bertke started. He then started that ace in the second round against Conner. That ace was removed from the game early with BW down and they came back and won that game. I am fairly sure everyone remembers what happened in the championship.
  14. I would expect Maile on the mound or maybe they go with Maile (YES I meant to do that).
  15. Hey Coop, I heard you were next in line for any open jobs. Oh wait, I was the one that started that rumor. LOL.
  16. Great job young man. I am very excited for you. I know you will go far in life and make the most of every opportunity. Enjoy the rest of the year.
  17. With all of this I am sure no one is an expert on the topic. I will agree with Spartan, Meinken is terrible. The field is one of the worst around. When you leave the rough infield area to the outfield it drops off what seems like over a foot or so. The lighting has to be up there with the worst ones in the area. I do not get out to many night games. I have been to night games at Meinken and do not envy the outfielders. St Henry seems to be very good for night games. JMO Here is a link to the KHSAA site on lighting standards and any one can make be an expert on it: http://www.khsaa.org/baseball/khsaalightingstandards.pdf
  18. I was just throwing that out as a suggestion. I would say there could be 2 fields ready and play 2 at each place. I know there are a lot of people who are smarter than myself that could figure this out. Maybe St. Henry could be used if available. The extra days rest would be luck of the draw. The state tourney starts on Monday the 13th with 4 more first round games on Tuesday the 14th. I am not sure how they shake out from there, but I figure someone gets an extra day.
  19. That would be fine with me. I am sure some of the high schools could have their fields ready. Maybe the 4 district champs could host the first round region games. I am not a fan of the turf.
  20. There is no rush to get any games in, district or region. The powers that be have the state tourney not start for another week after region. I really do not understand that, but that is what it is. I am sure the summer coaches would like it to get done though.
  21. The BW player was hit by a slow "spinner", it never broke like a curve. He stayed in the box waiting for it to break as a batter should. If he jumps out of the way and it breaks over the plate what is he suppose to do? I am not sure what was said in the early part of the conversation as the ump and Roesel came together as he asked if the pitch hit his foot. Roesel kept on and the ump told him this is your warning and then told him 2 more times that he had heard enough before throwing him out. The odd thing is, Hempel never even reacted as if the ball had hit him. From my angle I did not think it did and Hempels reaction would of been enough for me to say it did not. I guess you just need to pick your battles so to speak. I would think if Roesel had it to do over he would stick around for the game. This is the worst game BW has played all year. They were walking in to a hornets nest anyway in my opinion. Ryle senior day, minimal pitching available after the starter and a lack luster effort in my opinion. Ryle pounded out most of the hits off BW second pitcher. I think the score was 5-2 when he came in. Ryle played with a lot more enthusiasm like I felt they would being senior day. On the topic of the batter having to move- Doesn't the box belong to the batter? If so, why does he have to make an attempt? BW had this called in their next game vs Calvary. The BW batter raised his arms to let a breaking pitch go under his arms and it hit his jersey on the way by. As he started to first the ump told him to stay there he was still hitting.
  22. What day is the championship scheduled for? That should be a good game also.
  23. I hear he had to gut this one out after a line drive off the ankle as the Tigers batted as the game began in the bottom of the fourth. Gutsy performance young man. To hold this very good hitting HC team to that is incredible. The road only gets tougher from here on out. Every team they face will throw their ace at them I would guess. I have got to question Holtz for walking the lead off hitter with runners on second and third to set up the Gohs home run. I understand setting up the force or double play. I am not sure how many outs there were. Tough call on who to face.
