Sexton did pitch very good. The hit on the go ahead run was just a flip of the wrist. The batter took an outside pitch and hit it back up the middle. It went just passed the glove of Sexton. The second baseman was breaking back to cover his position and slipped and fell on the turf when he tried to go back to his right for the ball. This game ended up the same score as last year when Beechwood beat Cov Cath 3-1 in the finals.

Did I hear where a young lady from Beechwood won state in the discus? I am not sure I have the event right, but thought I heard this in passing.

Doesn't the rule read now that it has to be caught with reasonable effort? Say if a player has to make a dive for a pop up in the infield it is not ruled an IFF?

It was played over 2 days due to rain. I believe Ritter (HC) started and went to the rain delay. I think it was in the fifth. I think Hensley (Ryle) may have finished it. I do not remember if someone pitched between them.

In several cases they will run across teams this summer that are better than varsity teams in this area. The level of play is much better in summer select ball than high school in most cases. These young men will play against some of the best players in the country at some of the tourneys they go to. Two years ago Myerhoffs' Bluegrass Lions played a team from Charlotte, North Carolina at Disney. They had 3 players ranked in the top 100, one in the top 10. The young man in the top 10 pitched in relief. The Charlotte team had not lost at Disney in three years. Final score- Lions 1 Yankees 0.

For Holy Cross, Ritter started, Roeneker came next, then Broering, there may have been one more.

Wow! This has to be a bit of a surprise. Did Riddle go the distance? Where was his pitch count? Another top ranked team in the state goes down.

If you are referring to the Pugh home run, Yes. He hit it to straight away center over the batters screen. All of 425 or more for the Blast. I will go ahead and start the controversy on the pitching. Does it matter if you win Friday and lose Saturday? In my opinion, No. You look at the match ups and throw who gives you the best chance to win it all, IMO. Conner is hitting the ball very good. A lot of people said Myerhoff was making a mistake last year in round 1 against Highlands when he started Bertke. BW won that and started Smith against Conner. When BW went down 4 or 5 runs he was removed for another sophmore. BW came back and won it all. The number one did not really factor for them. I would throw Smallwood against Conner and potentially Sexton against the Boone- CCH winner. I view that as the best shot for Dixie. The problem is the pitch count for Smallwood. He seems to run it up there pretty good. How many did he throw yesterday in four against Newport? I know he threw around 85 in the first meeting with BW. He went 5 innings in that one. If I am Conner, I throw a breaking ball type pitcher. Someone that can locate the fastball and throw the breaking stuff for strikes. These are my opinions and I could be way off. But, I could be right! It easy to sit back here and not be faced with having to make the call.

I thought he missed it. It looked like the umpires were unclear on who was going to make the call. The third base ump had went out for the fly to left center. That left the call up to the home plate ump working his way down the line.

Is this district a blind draw or do they play seeding games? Did TC run short on pitching with having to play Lex Cath and Lafayette? JC

One of those seniors saved their bacon last night. Roeneker came in to pitch and did very well. BW could not get the big hit. Austin Bergfeld pinch hit with bases loaded and flew out to very deep center field. Another BW hitter flew out to deep left with runners on to end an inning. Who will the Indians throw against CCH?

Does anyone have the latest stats for Ronald Cotton? He is a senior game changer. You have to respect his power at the plate. If he does not hit a dinger, he will steal a base or two on you. A great defensive center fielder that plays the field everyday. Off the field he is a great young man. Sam Liggett has most of the same qualities, including being a great young man. I just think Cotton is my pick.

There are too many people that lose site of this when posting on these boards. If it were not for the kids there may not be anything to talk about. People need to remember that some kids play sports in high school just for the fun of it. Some do not plan on playing at the next level. Don't be the one to ruin the fun. JMO

Congrats on the victory. I am not sure I would view this as revenge. The victory in the region tourney meant much more. We each have our opinions. Beechwood continues to be streaky. The Tigers are leaving way to many on base. They had some chances and could not get a big hit. Conner hit the ball real good tonight.

W- C. Johnson L- Meyer Brad Leeke and Dylon Cottingham each hit home runs. Freshman Justin Parker ends it with a 2 out bases loaded single to left center. Nice to see the bats come alive for the Tigers. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come the rest of the year.

My vote goes to Ronald Cotton so far. I have to go with a kid who plays every day. He leads or is very high in most offensive categories. He is also a great center fielder.

The first game was against Lexington Christian but they did beat Lexington Cath. tonight 4-1. The over all record is 22 wins vs 4 losses with 2 of those coming against StX, however they did beat X 12- something in the Bullit East tourny on their way to winning the tourny. This is a good team and one of the losses was to Ballard in pool play of that tourny, which they beat in the championship game. This class is going to be good through out Louisville with teams like X, Ballard and Male. Its going to be fun to watch over the next 3 years.

Dixie has proven they struggle with a pitcher that throw alot of off speed stuff with good location. Teegarden from Boone got them last week I think in a 2-0 Boone win. Neither TJ or Teegarden have great fast balls, just effective.

I hear the Male freshman team is very good. They knocked off Lexington Catholic the other day 2-1. The tying run was thrown out at the plate tagging from third on a fly ball in foul territory down the left field line. Just happened to be in the area and caught this game. I hear they have an eighth grader that has 2 or 3 home runs in very limited action. Is this true? What is his name? Who are some of the leaders of this team?

I heard BW threw Colosimo, Johnson and Knauf got the win. I do not think any of those three started. Murphy took the loss for Boone. I was told the ace for Boone started. I do not know who there ace is. He took a line drive off the foot and left the game. Best wishes to him. Hope all is OK. Centerfielder Brad Leeke hit his first homerun of his varsity career on to the school in left. He was 2-4, HR, 2B, and I think 3 or 4 RBI.
