Thorobreds win the McDonald's Classic with an 8-5 win over Beechwood. Nice win for the Thorobreds.

Need to thank the umpires for that one Hilltopper.

There is absolutely no possible way you can say the umpires were the game changer. The umpire behind the plate was really inconsistent, but he was that way for both teams. Jordan Martin had a lot of calls that were very questionable that were called balls. Beechwood had absolutely no class. The head coach threw at Shane Fowler, and after the game the first base coach said something to the Harrison County players. I have never seen something so ridiculous.

Breds fan I highly doubt the first base coach said anything out of line.............PM me if you do not want to post what is reported he said......................As far as "throwing" at a batter..................if that were true at the high school level that coach shouldbe suspended for a long time. I highly doubt that was the case as well. Having been to Harrison County several times I am sure the host school was "a little rough" with talk, etc. Seen it happen there several times....................

Throwing inside is not throwing at a player. If he was going to throw at him, I am fairly sure he would of hit him. He took exception to being pitched inside. He walked in the at bat, BTW. If you want to no class look over in your dugout. A coach that degrades players and intimidates umpires, come on. The student fans sitting behind the plate yelling things at the BW players by name or number.

 

This game changed after a BW single to left that put BW up 5-3. The HC coach thought the previous pitch should of been a strike. He goes to the mound, stares down his 3rd baseman that did not make the play, when the ump gets there to break up the conference he says something to him and his calls he started getting.

 

It is funny how the HC faithful and radio announcer comment on how the BW coaches act. I have never seen a coach act that way from HC, Sad.

 

BTW, If this team is a state contender there are not very many good teams in Kentucky. JMO

The head coach of Beechwood went and talked to the catcher before Shane Fowler of Harrison batted, the first two pitches he saw were high and tight. I see that as he was told to throw at the batter. Also, Harrison County is a team with a lot of class, as Coach Whitaker would never let that happen.

You have never seen a coach use a mound visit to say something to an umpire?

He had to jump out of the way of both pitches, and then the Beechwood catcher talks back to the umpire, and Harrison is the team with no class?

Just curious, what did the BW catcher say?

HC is 10-2 in the state of KY with an extra inning loss and the other being a 1 run loss...but I do think baseball as a whole is down in the state this year.

That is not right. I did not think you would know. He said we are pitching him inside. Fowler hit 3 home runs in two games today, one in this game. I am pretty sure anyone that knows anything about baseball would think you need to pitch him inside. If he gets his arms extended it is gone, at least at that ball field. Good luck the rest of the year. Hope to meet again in June.

Just out of curiousity, were there any nice hits, good fielding plays, or solid pitching that happened in the game that would be worth mentioning in this thread? :sssh: 8-5 sounds like it must have been a pretty interesting game.

As I stated it was hear say. The umpire was mad at the catcher for a reason, so he obviously said something other than what you thought also.
