Looked at the KHSAA Stats for this game. No Tierney in the lineup last evening for NDA. Anyone know why?

What does the season hold for the Freshman Shamrocks? I'm sure they have a great number of kids, as always, but of those that will see the field during the season, who are the standouts and how will the season go?

I would not put much stock into what was seen statistically at this first 7v7. Coaches were very likely looking at mechanics and progressions, not TD / Int ratios. If one QB zeroed in on only one receiver and the other QB's scanned the field and checked down properly, that says a lot more than whether or not a TD pass or INT was thrown. As I stated earlier, there are several kids capable of leading this team at the QB position.

How did the games go this weekend? Any scores to post? The heat had to be terrible for the kids.

All 4 teams looked good for this early in the season. The SK QB had some very nice throws and their receivers know how to go up and get a ball. HHS has some nice depth at receiver and QB positions. As mentioned above, it will be interesting to see how the QB battle shakes out. There are 3 in the mix who have the skills to lead the team.

These transfers happen all the time. Why does it always seem to come to a head when it involves Highlands?

Agreed, it likely did not apply to most players back then either. I was sort of insulated and recalling our experience. Nearly every player on the Club team played for the high school team as well, so training and play was nearly seamless and ongoing for them.

League play ends, but training and tournaments are ongoing, at least on top level teams. It has been a few years back, but my daughter's club teams played several tournaments throughout Spring and early summer. Maybe this has changed?

In my experience, the summer workouts were to let the coaches know who and how many players they could expect to see at tryouts and get a first impression of the athletes. Most players are playing club ball up until tryouts and beyond, so conditioning should rarely be an issue.

From what I understand, there are 2 extremely talented incoming Frosh QB's, as well.

And there are plenty more who are 3-4 years of physical development ahead of him. Why risk it? I'm betting that he plays Frosh and some JV this season. His presence on the Varsity squad would not take the team to a level any higher than they would be without him. Not saying he is not an impact type player, just that as a single, young player, he does not move the needle enough at the Varsity level to risk his future development. The benefits of allowing him another year of growth and development while being a team leader on the freshman team, far outweigh the small benefit to the Varsity if he is thrown in to that mix this year.

I have heard that Kraemer is a contender for that spot. Not sure who else is in the mix at this point.

I agree Huddleston is a very good player. That said, I think putting him up against young men that are 3-4 years older and more physically developed than he is would be a mistake and a disservice to him. Another year of growth and the ability to be a leader on the Freshman team would better serve him and the team both this season and for the next several. There is another really good athlete in this class, who will also be an impact player. He has recently been injured so I will not name him, but if he can get healthy by the start of the season, these two together will make the Freshman team tough to beat.

What a nice ending/beginning, for Ben Weyer! It would be sweet if he can help lead his team to a state title! Make NKY proud, boys!!!! Bring home that State Title and the big Trophy!!!!!

Really trying not to think about what UK does while he is lying in his bed at night thinking about SK football....just saying.

I do not know the reason(s). It could be any number of reasons. My point was that it is unfair for anyone to speculate that it was for basketball.

I am sure that basketball was not the overriding factor in the family's decision for Ben to attend NCC. He would be playing at the next level regardless of where he played high school.

Say it ain't so! Rewarding academics, AT A SCHOOL!!!! Don't tell anyone, but I think they also have hardship funds to help low income student families with the tuition burden. That has to be a bad thing, right?

Had his antics been directed toward the officials or the other coach/team, he may have been called out on them. However, he was animated toward his own players, trying to get their attention when their attention was focused elsewhere. The atmosphere was loud during these times and he was waving his arms and stomping, to do everything he could to draw his players eyes to him so he could make his points to them and give them direction. Why do you think the refs should have a problem with that?

And anyone who complains about a pothole in the street, shut up unless you have actually filled potholes! Been provided poor service in a retail establishment? No complaints unless you too have flipped a burger. Upset by that traffic ticket? Too bad, unless you have been a cop. Actually, just stop all complaints unless you are complaining about something that you have actually done in your past! Doctor or Lawyer screw something up in your life? Sorry, no complaints and certainly no lawsuits without you MD or Law degrees! Mechanic mess up the car? Hey, if you cannot do a better job, sit down and shut up! Brakes are overrated anyway, right?

Must have just been the Freshman team that did not do the two a days. The only other area at the Fort would likely have been the baseball field, but it is so rough there would be injury concerns.

I am hoping that the Birds get back to Spring Practices and then back to two a day workouts as well. The kids this season would have done well with both as they have been through it all before. Is there a reason the soccer facility was not used for Spring football?

If the solution is no solution and to maintain the status quo, then no one should be surprised when we continue to see poorly called games and forums trashing the officials involved.

Ok then, I'll call it 'the approach you endorse'. Are you of the opinion that those who are incapable of high performance make up the majority of the talent pool for these positions? It seems so, if you believe that requiring a minimum standard of performance would reduce numbers to a level where Friday night football may be in jeopardy. I don't believe that. My solution is, as previously stated, weed out the poor performers. The good officials do not want to work with the incompetent, so having a full contingent of high performers should lead to a better product and a higher level of work satisfaction, thereby keeping the good officials around longer. As new officials come online, adhere to these standards. If necessary, bump their fee by a few bucks as they gain seniority. A small increase could be covered by schools in any number of ways.
