  1. Agreed. The series had it's twists and turns....and both programs have had periods of dominance throughout. I still believe that Belfry and Prestonsburg were absolutely the best 2A teams in 2003 and 2004. Those were very special years....albeit a little "sweeter" for Belfry.....but P-burg, IMO, was the best team we played either year.....and could have defeated E-town or Owensboro Cath. It's a shame the series came to an end. My guess is....in a few years....it'll get cranked up again.
  2. Then....they have the opportunity to validate the "respect".
  3. Well...Mason has the perfect opportunity to gain a measure of respect.....right on their home turf. Home or away...if they can beat Russell...observers around the state will stand up and take notice. If not....they'll start talking about Basketball season.
  4. Not sure you can make that statement with complete accuracy. Many teams run the "bone" and the "I" and still use the same or very similar blocking techniques. While you will see more pulling in an "I".....you can still pull, trap, pancake, seal, double team, collapse and release block in either offense with relative ease.
  5. When you review the KY State Champions....you will find very, very few teams that have won a championship running a "spread" offense. At the HS level....it's imperative that you run the ball successfully. Several teams....Russell and Belfry come to mind that have won championships without completing a pass....
  6. Unfortunately....despite the size...not a great deal of push or speed. The loss of Moore on the line has been a blow. However, the staff appears to have made a few adjustments...and the line definitely played better against Rock. Harrison's best lineman is their center. The line really lacks speed..and is prone to getting beat over tackles.
  7. They're level of competition will definitely be a step up from previous contests. Believe me....I want Harrrison to pull it out.....but without Talbott...IMO, you can't honestly think they're going to be operating on "all cylinders". Warmouth will certainly help them on both sides of the ball....but especially in the defensive backfield. He has very good quickness...and plays very strong man to man coverage. Just not sure HC will have enough to compensate for Talbott athleticism against a very good Franlin team.
  8. I don't think you can compare the coaches. McGlone walks with just a scant few others. No disrespect to Mason's coaching staff....I'm sure they're very good. But McGlone, Hilton, Haywood, Holcomb,Yeagle and a few others are in a completely different class.
  9. Harrison will be without the services of their starting TB/DB. That will definitely be a blow. Not sure that HC will be able to compenstate for his loss.
  10. If in fact Belfry is down 4-5 starters due to injury....then of course this game takes a complete turn. Injuries are part of every teams season....and the bug has certainly bit the Pirates. Regardless....If May and Dotson can suit up and play at 85-90%.....Belfry wins this one. If not...then we may have to make a trip to Inez in early November and the beat'em down there. Make no mistake....when healthy....Belfry is 3-4 scores better than SC.
  11. I simply can't see it. If they play like they did this past Friday, this thing will be over relatively early. IMO, Mason lacks the physicality to beat a team like Russell. Russell 30 Mason 14
  12. From what I understand he could miss a minimum of 2 weeks...maybe more.
  13. The enthusiasm is nice.....but don't hang your hat on the performance against LexCath. They are not the Catholic of old. Even with Isaacs back in the lineup.....you're going to see some rust...and some timing issues. He's been out a month. Unfortunately, with Talbott's injury...you lose his elusiveness. While he's definitely an offensive weapon.....he's an absolute stud on the defensive side of the ball. He's had the knack of being in the right place at the right time all year. Losing him at this juncture is huge. I'm not saying HC can't pull it out. However, they can't play against Franklin like they did against Rock and expect to be victorious. The Rock game was very entertaining.....but very sloppy...with the penalties and missed assignments.
  14. JC will have absolutely no problem with Montgomery. Injuries or not. JC is way too physical for Montgomery this go around.
  15. That's hilarious. This may be a close game for a half...but Russell will end up with a fairly decisive victory.
  16. May not matter if Talbott is out. W/O Talbott...IMO, they have no shot against Franklin.
  17. I really think this unit...at full strength, is the best overall defensive unit Belfry's had since 1985/86. Slightly undersized....but tremendously quick....and very fundamentally sound.
  18. Depends if Charlie Dotson is healthy and if Dustin May suits up. Hopefully, Dustin will sit this one out and give that knee another week to heal. Does anyone know the extend of Charlie' injury?
  19. Harrison should win this one. Rock has owned them over the past few years...but ....barring any unforseen injuries....Harrison should win this one by a couple of scores.
  20. Pike Central has a couple of nice players. However, they don't have enough to outlast the Pirates. Belfry 48 PCC 7
  21. How about just taking a knee?
  22. If Harrison's QB is healthy this week....Harrison will win this one. If he's not.....this game's probably a toss up.
  23. I just can't see Lex Cath beating Highlands. Not this year. Defensively...your run defense is suspect. Offensively....you could barely muster 14 points against a slighly better than average Harrison Co team. don't take it as a knock...but Catholic is simply not as solid as in years past. Look for Highlands to win this one....
  24. I'll eat crow on this one. I just didn't see Shelby not showing up. Nice game Cardinals.
