  1. Madisonville scores on first possession of second half aided by 45 yd QB scramble down the the 5 yard line. 2 pt conversion good. 36-21 mayfield
  2. Mayfield passing game is on point. Not running it much, but Stinson is on the money tonight. Madisonville isn’t having much success running with Hightower, outside of a 20 yd TD run. But they need to keep feeding him the ball. They have passed some, missed a few they should have caught, but it’s mostly the QB scrambling for first downs. Very chippy right before halftime with the refs having to separate the teams...
  3. Nobody is sleeping on Beechwood. Their pedigree is well documented.
  4. Ocath - put up tons of points, which can keep you in just about any game. Breathitt - undefeated, but weak schedule.
  5. I have never been a college recruiter, but I'm sure one of the first things looked at is who are these kids dominating against. Not saying they are not good, simply pointing out that they haven't exactly been challenged. What were their stat lines against Owensboro?
  6. Mayfields starting middle linebacker has to sit this game out. Had two personal fouls in the Murray game. Not sure what he did to get either penalty, but I hope it wasn't for talking trash.
  7. I have been critical of Mayfield's tackling this season, and this Friday will show if they have improved or not. I have watched Hightower on Hudl, and that dude is a bowling ball. I think he will certainly give Mayfield fits. Not sure about Madisonville's defense. Not many teams have been able to stop Mayfield (even McCracken had some trouble) so I see a shootout. Madisonville 35 Mayfield 34 I will be mailing Coach Burgett a good luck package this week (big red chewing gum included)!!!
  8. I asked this on another thread and no one confirmed, but assuming Mayfield finishes in the top three of the RPI (regardless of fridays outcome), doesn't that mean they will host all games until finals (assuming they make it that far)?? Either somerset or LCA will be gone after round 2....
  9. Mayfield still had issues last night. Numerous personal fouls for trash talking (to a team whose rear end you are kicking no less) and had a player get ejected for getting two. He will miss next weeks game. Not the most mature or disciplined Mayfield team.
  10. Sounds like barring some crazy changes in the RPI, Mayfield will be at home in round 4 if they keep winning regardless of next weeks outcome with Madisonville?
  11. When Utley went to sideline I saw him holding his right forearm/wrist/hand. So a broken wrist sounds about right.
  12. IF they play again, it should be another dandy. LCA only winning by one point on their home field means these two teams are right on par with each other talent wise.
  13. They don't. Lucky for them their offense is as potent as any team in 2A.
  14. I don't remember many details about that game, but I'm pretty sure it was close for the first half, Mayfield blew it open in the second half.
  15. Where was this d-line advantage at against Graves? Caldwell? Neither one of those teams throw much, and they both beat Murray. Not sure about Graves, but Caldwell running back had 150 yards rushing I think. Not picking at you, I just don't see an advantage there. McCracken is the only team that has made Mayfield look truly susceptible at d-line. Other than that, Mayfield has held their own.
  16. I think LCA stays at 1. Tough schedule, and they just beat Somerset. Paintsville won't be a pushover but they should win that one. Mayfield belongs at 2. Equally tough schedule, and they still have Murray and Madisonville left. I don't think Murray can hang, but Madisonville will be a potential loss for Mayfield. I also don't think any 2A team would beat that McCracken County squad that beat Mayfield at home. Somerset at 3. I still don't understand why they are scheduling multiple 1A teams. It's not helping prepare them and it will hurt them with the RPI possibly. But they also lost by 1 to the highest ranked team in the class. I would just need to see a schedule comparable to LCA or Mayfield to bump them up. Beechwood at 4. They have played the touhest schedule of anybody. Got whipped by Somerset, but then turn around and beat Corbin pretty good. They are still a dangerous team and head and shoulders above teams like Ocath, Murray, and Caldwell. It will be very interesting during the last week. Mayfield plays at Madisonville and Somerset travels to Corbin.
  17. I consider the top 4 legit contenders. Beechwood plays a tougher schedule than everyone else, which I think puts them right there with the top 3.
  18. Murray has lost to the two best teams they have played so far (Graves and Caldwell) by a total of 5 points. Mayfield beat those same two teams by a total of 93-14. I don't think the game is already decided, but Murray will have to play their very best game to pull out a win. Murray seems to have a potent offense, and Mayfields weak link is their defense, so they have a punchers chance. I was told after Mayfield got beat by McCracken, the talk in Murrays camp was that Mayfield wasn't as good as advertised that this was Murrays year. Until Murray starts playing a semi-challenging schedule, I will have a hard time betting on them.
  19. LCA looks to have played a bit tougher schedule, and they are at home. I think that gives them the edge.
  20. Hate it for the kid. I'm sure he is heartbroken. Better that it happened at this point in the season than later on though. Gives Somerset time to adjust for playoffs.
  21. I'm not saying they are total garbage, but they lost to Graves County first game of the year, and their toughest opponents are Mayfield and Caldwell (district games). They have Marshall on the schedule, and they finish with Fulton County. I just don't see how that prepares you for Mayfield, Caldwell, or any other quality team.
  22. Murray is overrated every year. I think District 4 is easily tougher.
  23. Fulton City beat Mayfield in 2007. And Fulton County beat Mayfield in 1993? I think. Thats all I can remember.
