Some/Many have raved about how good both Somerset and Lexington Christian Academy have been this season, especially after the two mentioned above played each other neck and neck. But Mayfield sits with the same record on the season at 7-1 just like the others mentioned above. There loss was to McCracken County team who is riding a 6 game winning streak after losing to Paducah Tilghman and Bowling Green. Do you think Mayfield should be higher? Do you think they are in the perfect spot? Do you think they should be lower? Explain why?

I said yes to the question above because really the rankings are just subjective. Looking at the RPI (which is what really matters) Mayfield sits .003 points behind Somerset. Looking at the calculations their opponents winning percentage is lagging way behind as they rank ahead of Somerset in the other 2 categories. I think they will pass Somerset in the coming weeks given they defeat Murray and Madisonville-North Hopkins and should take over that number 2 spot. Mayfield is a very good team just like Somerset and LCA and pending on who wins the playoff rematch between the 2 Mayfield will be home throughout the playoffs so it doesn’t matter. I only hope Beechwood can navigate their way through the playoffs to play Mayfield at some point whether it be the semifinals or the Championship game.

I think LCA stays at 1. Tough schedule, and they just beat Somerset. Paintsville won't be a pushover but they should win that one.

 

Mayfield belongs at 2. Equally tough schedule, and they still have Murray and Madisonville left. I don't think Murray can hang, but Madisonville will be a potential loss for Mayfield. I also don't think any 2A team would beat that McCracken County squad that beat Mayfield at home.

 

Somerset at 3. I still don't understand why they are scheduling multiple 1A teams. It's not helping prepare them and it will hurt them with the RPI possibly. But they also lost by 1 to the highest ranked team in the class. I would just need to see a schedule comparable to LCA or Mayfield to bump them up.

 

Beechwood at 4. They have played the touhest schedule of anybody. Got whipped by Somerset, but then turn around and beat Corbin pretty good. They are still a dangerous team and head and shoulders above teams like Ocath, Murray, and Caldwell.

 

It will be very interesting during the last week. Mayfield plays at Madisonville and Somerset travels to Corbin.

Mayfield should be 1 or 2, tough schedule, their only loss was at home to a legit McCracken county squad with one of the best offenses in the state.

They don't. Lucky for them their offense is as potent as any team in 2A.
