Class 2A

 

Perhaps the most anticipated game in the entire state was Somerset and LCA and the game lived up to the hype in an instant classic that put the State on notice that both teams are firmly in the running for a 2A Title. The Eagles prevailed on a two point conversion but cannot let off against Danville. Beechwood made their own statement by handling Lloyd Memorial and now must polish off their District schedule with Newport. Murray came up short in a good ole fashioned shootout against Caldwell County, the Tigers must find some answers or else they may be in trouble against Mayfield.

10. Newport at #4 Beechwood

Think the rankings are perfect as posted here! What scares me for the rest of 2A is the separation from 1-3 and the rest of the state. I’m a Beechwood fan and it’s hard for me to say we can beat any of the top 3 despite us getting better from our Somerset game week 2. Good luck to everyone this week!

I consider the top 4 legit contenders. Beechwood plays a tougher schedule than everyone else, which I think puts them right there with the top 3.

Everyone is looking over Breathitt

I would have Mayfield atleast #2. Back to back State Finals appearance and the most seasoned QB of the group. Beechwood, Owensboro Catholic, and Breathitt could be scary teams outside the Top 3. Beechwood has played a very tough schedule and will be battle tested and ready come playoff time. Owensboro Catholic has a very dynamic offense with multiple playmakers who could put a lot of pressure on the right team. And Breathitt is kind of the unknown just how good they can be here from their schedule. They have all the pieces to make a run and should be healthy come round 3.
