Taking a strong look at 2A District 1 and 2A District 4, it shows those two districts have 5 spots with teams in the 2A BluegrassPreps Top 10. Some of the other districts may not be talked about much, because of the deep tradition rich programs such as Mayfield, Caldwell County, Murray, Danville and Somerset. Lexington Christian Academy is a fairly new school but they have a solid program for several years now and have a state championship in 2009.

Which of the districts is the toughest?

LCA, Danville and Somerset have all shown that they can win that district and advance deep in the playoffs.

 

Mayfield dominates the other district, I can't even remember the last time one of the others beat them in the regular season...let alone advance past them in the playoffs.

Fulton City beat Mayfield in 2007. And Fulton County beat Mayfield in 1993? I think. Thats all I can remember.

This year I think District 1 is the toughest. Murray has a very strong team and Caldwell County dropped down from 3A where they had some success. In other years I might choose District 4 but Danville has been down this year and it's more of a 2 team race.

Honestly, in District 1, this is a "down year" for both Caldwell County and Mayfield, and we're still having this conversation. Shoot, when Mayfield list that home game earlier this year, I had to call my friends down there to make sure they were alright.

Collectively the District with Somerset and LCA have the two best teams, but District 1 is the toughest this year as Mayfield, Murray, and Caldwell County are a brutal triumvirate.

 

Crazy to think that one of the Top 8 teams in the State most likely will be sitting home after Round 1.

Murray is overrated every year. I think District 4 is easily tougher.

Beechwood, Lloyd and Newport are in a tough district. And all in the top ten.

I think District 4 is toughest just because I think the gap between Somerset and LCA is small. Danville and Washington County aren't bad teams but they aren't competing with the top two this year. District 1 has three good teams but Mayfield has absolutely owned Murray and Caldwell for so long and it is hard to imagine either of them toppling the Cardinals this year.

 

So I'd vote District 4 but both are very good.

I don't think that it is farfetched to say over the past 11 seasons, Mayfield's worst team is probably better than Danville's 3rd best team. What DreamKiller is saying is if you trade Mayfield and Danville into the others district that Mayfield might have a little more resistance in the 4th district than they have had in the 1st but there is still a good chance that they would have still won 10 straight district titles.

I'd say district 1 right now, but we will have to see how it shapes out. Mayfield and Caldwell will tell us a lot this week. Probably will have Mayfield as the top top team with Murray and Caldwell not to far behind in a war for 2nd place. Crazy to think that one of those two teams will go home in the first round. Then the neighboring district outside of Ocath is trash.

I'm not saying they are total garbage, but they lost to Graves County first game of the year, and their toughest opponents are Mayfield and Caldwell (district games). They have Marshall on the schedule, and they finish with Fulton County. I just don't see how that prepares you for Mayfield, Caldwell, or any other quality team.

I agree with this. Anytime I hear "Murray is pretty tough this year, I think they will give Mayfield all they want" it always ends up the same way, Mayfield beats them by several TDs. I am very interested in the Caldwell-Murray game to see which one is superior. As far as District 1 vs. District 4, dist. 4's 2nd team is way ahead of dist. 1s in my mind but D1's 3rd team is a little better than Danville I would think. I'm going to lean toward district 4 this year and say they are tougher from top to bottom. Still think Mayfield will take out the champ of that district in the State Title game though.
