  1. So what do you all think are some of the biggest surprises in Northern Kentucky baseball this year????
  2. Just on side note you can have balks on any player in the game. While in training to be an umpire we were informed that you can also have bals on a first basemen or thirdbasemen etc. The general ruling is that you have to 8 men between the foul lines at one time. A firstbasemen holding a runner on first with one foot in foul territory. If he remains in this position when the ball leaves the pitchers hand he can be called for a balk. The ruling states that all players must be in the field of play except for the catcher. Going from this rule it would make sense that the catcher would have to remain in his respected catchers box position just like a batter must remain in the batters box.
  3. Boith games are cancelled, I hear they plan to make them up but no idea on when and where.
  4. If they played at Taylor County on Varsity last year then they should have had to sit a year to be eligible to play.
  5. I;d have to agree, Beechwood;s major flaw was that they were not ALLOWED to pitch any of there best. They try so hard to make sure all teams have equal days rest in district, and regional games and it surprises me they dont do the same in this situation. I think the state personally needs to rethink the baseball brackets in general. I feel they need to have the Semi-State as a 1 and out. Then you coukd use the final 8 teams from that to be devised into best of 3 series'. These games could be played at numerous athletic facilities in the state. IE: Champion Window's Field in Florence, Applebee's Park, University of Kentucky, the River Bat's Stadium, etc. With teh champion ship series also being played in one of those establishments, perhaps on a rotating schedule so that one venue would host one year, another the next, and another the next. Doing so would A: draw in more revenue from the 3 game series since Im sure they would have bigger crowds than semi-state. AND B: Eliminate the idea that Lexington schools ALWAYS have an advantage in the tournament, if they rotated venues if a team plays in a championship close to home it;s just good luck. In many ways it just seems more fair, and more fun that way. I would personally love to see BW, and Lex Cath play in a 3 game series, IU thing every game would be as exciting as the one was Saturday Night.
  6. Do we even know of anyway to get a roster for the two teams??? I would really like to at least see everyone who is playing... As of right now we have Juniors: Villa: Geoff Lamping, Chris Ruth Brossart: Kramer, Mutsch, Uebel Campbell County: Bray, Harrison Ryle: Wagner, Murray Simon Kenton: Parrot Scott: Bushg, Wagner Boone- Kordenbrock, Krohmann Newport: Hetsch Seniors: Villa: Herbstreit, Harris Brossart: ? Campbell County: McCain, White Ryle: Guttridge Simon Kenton: Hurtt, Cook, Elliot Boone: Dietz Newport: Atkions, Bartel Those above are those that have been reported here so they are b y no means official...
  7. That's exactly what I wanted to know, who are the coaches going to be for the game?
  8. True the regions are a mess, but that's what happens when you have school like Silver Grove, Villa, Calvary Christian etc. and schools like CCH, Dixie, Conner, Ryle, Scott, Highlands... with there beign just one baseball braket for the whole state our regions has to get screwed up, there;s no better way. Do note that SK, Scott, and Campbell County all have players playing in the game. Me using them in my example was just a way of saying that you cant include the 9th region, which includes a VERY large majority of Northern Kentucky, and then include all the outliers.
  9. Idk, imo a player who has anywhere from 25 and above is a pretty good RBI player. I know this year at Villa our 2 hitter lead us in RBI's, just seems thats how things went. At the same time RBI's can be hard to come by if your team foesnt get men on base. It really varies. I agree.. RISP % is probably a very good stat that teams should keep but often dont.
  10. You would be vsurprised... amazing how teams can get greedy, all I have to say is be smart PRP and you most definitely have a win.
  11. The Villa reps for the game for the Seniors are Kyle Herbstreit and Kyle Harris, the Junior Reps are Chris Ruth, and Geoff Lamping
  12. With all due respect you cant have every team in the 9th, some of the 10th, and some of the 8th respresented. The object is to give Juniors and senior recognition for a job well done. You cant do that in one night if you have the whole 9th region, and then include BB, Scott, CC, Walton, Silver Grove, etc etc etc... I mean think about it, with just the 9th region you have what 20 teams or so... that right there makes 40 players.... spolit them to 2 teams and you have a 20 man roster the way it is. You have to be logical. You cant include EVERY SINGLE N. Ky school.
  13. I'm still going to say Beechwood wins it in 2. If I were them I'd throw the same 1 - 2 punch that they threw against St. H, and Ryle. Moore throws the 1st, Curley the 2nd. They do that they should walk out with 2 wins.
  14. True it does work both ways, but if it comes to a slugfest are you going to take Harrison county or Beechwood? And lets be honest, Beechwood isnt going to make many bad pitches, they showed that when they beat Ryle, St Henry, and Highlands. Curley, and Moore are STUDS! Having seen them play this past weekend they seemed to be hitting spots well, throwing with good velocity, and have nasty off speed stuff.
  15. With the short porches I expect beechwood to win. They just have way way to many big bats in the lineup. They have great pitching good fielding, and probably some of the best bats in the state. I see the beechies winning easily. You cant intentionally walk to whole lineup. Curley, Muth, Sawyer, Neumann... to much power cant pitch around em all!
  16. By rule the runner does not have to slide but must to his best to avoid contact. Just because a runner doesnt lift hius elbows and lower his shoulder isnt good enough, they must do their best to avoid a direct collision.
  17. Complete all Tournament Team: NewCath -D.J. Young, Sam Diehl; CovCath -Mike Stevens; Highlands -Patrick Allen; Villa Madonna -Kyle Herbstreit; St. Henry -Craig Shanks, Jeff Grieme; Ryle -Mark Guttridge, Giovanni DeVita; Lloyd -Patrick Thompson; Beechwood -Pat Muth, Chris Curley, Chas Moore, Eric Sawyer (MVP). Congrats to all!
  18. That ball in the 1st inning was hit beyond hard.... that was an absolute BOMB!!!:fire:
  19. So true, tonight beechwood did it all... they hit for power and conbtact. They bunted runners onto first, bunted them over, played good defense, pitched well, etc. They deserved to win the game. Congrats to them. A lot too should be said about Ryle, after the first inning it would have been easy to just fall back and give in, they kept up the pressure and made a game of it after all. Congrats to the Tigers, and good luck down in the state sectionals!
  20. With all the talk on Champion Windows Field, I figured I'd ask this question... is it me, or does the ball carry really well there. It seems there have been a lot of ball hit out to left field that would be gone in many other fields. The 2 games yesterday saw many of them. It seems to me the ball just flies in that ball park? Are we in Florence Ky, or Denver Colorado
  21. Thanks a lot for that clarification. I'll pass this on to our coach as well. Maybe it's a rule in the higher levels of play but allowed here. Thanks a lot and once again GO RAIDERS!
  22. In my opinion Beechwood should win, but I dont think they will... Ryle is playing with to much heart and too much emotion right now. They want this game more then any other all year. I think this game means more to them than it may for Beechwood. Don't get me wrong both teams want it tremendously but I just got a feeling Ryle will take this one in what looks to be a thriller. Im gonna predict Ryle 5 Beechwood 3 in 8 innings.
  23. It is an interesting play when looked at. Either way, congrats to the raiders on a big comeback victory. The 3 run homer in the 6th was huge. Great game to watch from all perspectives. I really personally hope Ryle wins the region tomorrow, especially considering everything that they have been through. Im sure it would have meant a lot to their principal, and will continue to mean even more to the school as they are mourning. Congrats Raiders! Keep on fightin!
