  1. As for someone who has seen the kid run... he can flat out cook on the bath paths and in the field. Being behind the plate doesn't fully play in to all of his cards but its still no bash on Farris. The kids an awesome catcher at any level. Having him cauight be in the past he calls a good smart game and does his job effectively behind the plate. As to where I think he could really blossom into a stud at the next level, I cant help but think he would be best in the outfield. But the kid is still a stud behind the plate. I havent seen any N. Ky baseball this year yet but will try to catch the district and regional ++ coverage once school lets out next week. However its absolutely no doubt that Farris can catch in HS and on the next level. The fact of the matter is he is better fit to play elsewhere because no one wants a catcher that can steal bases and run down the ball in the gap. IMO, reading a lot of the information in the thread POY will be determined by who excels in the district, and regional action over the next few weeks. The true POY will distinguish himself here in one where or another.
  2. One of the College fields for the KBC Tournament for the 14 y.o kida is probably at Transy, Georgetown Possibly (two college fields) and 2 other local high school fields.
  3. Idk I cannot help but think that many are over analyzing the situation. They arent exactly kids they are teenagers. Cussing unfortunately is part of everyday life for teenagers now a days. Look at all of the major influences on teens and you will see cussing. It's one thing for a person to cuss while trying to motivate a team. Its another if the coach told one of the players he was a piece of --- or that he was a ----- or some other sort. Its quite the other if he said Lets beat the --- out of these guys. Hit that --- up the middle. Etc etc.
  4. I personally don't typically condone a coach cussing directly at players, but in some ways I do. There are some kids who respond differently to certain types of encouragement. I for one think I was one of those players. I liked a coach to get on me pretty tough sometimes because for me it got the adrenaline for me and helped me focus on the task at hand. Some other kids are completely different. I for one loved when a coaches get all fired up and let a few choice words fly to pump up a player or team. However some kids respond completely differently. It varies from situation to situation and some words are definitely more "socially acceptable" then others. After all if we can here many of the words in our evening television and routinely in movies is it really that different to appear on a baseball field.
  5. Our coaches always said if a base get dislodge lay out on the ground in an ex near where the base was. Most umps give a runner a lot of leeway when it comes to runners and where a base "should be"
  6. Those fences are rediculously short. Its what like 270 down the lines. I honestly felt like I was on a large softball field there.
  7. I will agree, in terms of natural grass fields, saint henry has to be one of the nicest fields around. The field surface is great and well groomed and the stands and commodities are some of the best ive seen around the state.
  8. Let me put it this way. Baseball in Ky is what, a 30-35 game season. If a kid misses baseball for spring break for four years he could be missing around 25-30 games. Thats a whole season of games that this kid misses to go on spring break instead of being there. Thats a whole year of experience lost, in game situations never experienced, and commitment shown as being else where. The fact that people complain about this amazes me. There are hundreds of kids that get cut that would kill to be in their sons shoes to play baseball for their high schools but don't get that opportunity. Its a matter of commitment and priorities. As a coach Im playing the 9 kids that have shown that they want it more. Plain and simple.
  9. Actually me and several coaches discussed this a little while back when we had a stream of 4 or 5 rain outs in a row and it is really logical. Football can be played when its 40 degrees out and has rained for several days. Baseball just cant. It would be a radical change that would never really be accepted but it would work out so much better that way. Summer baseball and such though would have to start earlier. The diea is good but so many other things would need to be modified for it to work out its not worth the time or $$$
  10. Its great too see other people who count down the days. I know from my HS days that we had a calender on the captains lockers that pretty much said X days until baseball season. Its a great day for Ky baseball in general as players put the caps down for winter hats and sweatshirts and start the running and throwing when possible outside. Good luck to all teams this year in baseball.
  11. I agree with the baseball or spring break philosophy. The baseball season is too short and spring break is often a week where teams can get in as many as 6 games. When you are talking about a 30 game season a player, or group of players on a team that miss that many games miss a significant part of the season. Spring Break and baseball in Ky are synonymous. Its too big of a part of Ky baseball and the spring sport season to really tell your kids yes, go on spring break we will play here and work hard without you.
  12. Congrats to a fine competitor good luck next year!
  13. I understand everyone's plight and those on both sides have good arguements but this is a very very good point. I would not like to see a major division in Ky, however I do feel a 2 class syatem could be very effective for baseball much like that used by NCAA Division I, and Division I A. This type of class system in my opinion could be very beneficial. Have there be an A state champ, and a AA state champ and have them show down on the diamond for the true STATE Champion. Lets face it, any more the 3 classes would be silly and the talent in the upper echelons would all be very similar. However a two class system could be somewhat beneficial.
  14. Have to agree I believe the quote from last years districts was "Gotta throw your ace". I'd say that over the last few years Dixie should have at least one district championship. To my knowledge I dont think they even have one.
  15. In my opinion Coach Meyerhoff is the best coach in Northern Ky. His players respect him and trust him fully, he maximizes the talent of nearly every player he gets his hands on and knows the game and loves it to a rediculous extent. He will go down as one of the greats in the state. Not to mention I love his old-school bulldog approach to the game.
  16. How exactly do you go about submitting records? And just wondering but what are the records for the most No Hitters thrown by a team in a season, and what is the record for most No-no's thrown by a player in a season?
  17. Herbstreit of of Villa Madonna, and Kyle York from Ludlow both throw pretty good curveballs as well.
  18. So true when two teams meet between the lines on a baseball diamond truely anything can happen!
  19. The game will be made up at 7:00PM on Monday June 26th @ Scott High School.
  20. Have to agree, when St. Henry got hot this year trhey werre an absolute force on the baseball diamond. Congrats on a great season to them! As for the above.... thats brutal, but on side note, theoldguy called it!
  21. Kyle Herbstreit (Villa Madonna Academy) -- Transylvania
  22. As for Boone County, I heard that a great Shaun Alexander has been wanting to put in Turf and boost the facilities at Boone for some time, but the Boone County School Board and such wouldnt allow it because they felt tat the same would have to go for Ryle and Conner or something along those lines. Not sure how true this is but it's just what Ive heard through the rumor mill.
  23. Anyone else have a feeling there will be an increase in catchers balks next year in High School Baseball in the state of Ky?
  24. Check OBR Rule 4.03 4.03 When the ball is put in play at the start of, or during a game, all fielders other than the catcher shall be on fair territory. (a) The catcher shall station himself directly back of the plate. He may leave his position at any time to catch a pitch or make a play except that when the batter is being given an intentional base on balls, the catcher must stand with both feet within the lines of the catcher's box until the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. PENALTY: Balk. (b) The pitcher, while in the act of delivering the ball to the batter, shall take his legal position; © Except the pitcher and the catcher, any fielder may station himself anywhere in fair territory; (d) Except the batter, or a runner attempting to score, no offensive player shall cross the catcher's lines when the ball is in play.
  25. I would also agree some higlights of the year for me were St. Henry defeating Beechwood (promising future for St. Hanks), Villa and Lloyd making it through the 34th to advance to region, Villa 34th district champions, Lloyd defeating Dixie in districts (a great game for all in attendance), Holy Cross' success this year with such a young and talent filled roster, NCC defeating CCH, Ryle's ability to perserevere hardship during the Regional tournament and still see rather good success only to lose to the State Runner up BW, (may not have surprised many but to me it said something about the team and gentlemen on the team's representation of the school), and lastly the overall strenght of the area in general, any team can defeat another on any given day, always makes things a little interesting.
