I read in the KY Post today that Beechwood argued that LC committed a catcher's balk. Would anyone that was there agree?

Didn't see the play, but the catcher has to be set in the catchers box until the pitch is delivered. He can step out and recieve the ball for a pitch out once the ball has been released. If he steps out before the ball is pitched, its a balk and runners get one base.

Absolutely. Would've been a run in and a runner on second. It turned out that the runner trying to steal second was thrown out and the other runner had to stay at third. So, instead of run scored, runner on 2nd and 1 out. It was runner on third, 2 outs.

 

That call along with the interference call when sliding into second were bad calls. They gave Lex Cath a double play that never should've happened.

Sure. If you want to completely discount momentum and assume what would have happened with more batters that inning.

You can't speculate that though. I used to track what the leadoff batter did in the next inning when we got taken out of the inning by a bad call, until it started to drive me crazy.....besides, the leadoff batter is never in a man in soring position situation either.

I've never seen a catcher's balk. I'm not sure if there really is one. I don't believe the rule as you state it actually exists.

 

The only time a balk can be called regarding the catcher is:

 

1. runner on 3rd attempting to score on a steal or squeeze and the catcher comes in FRONT of the plate prior to having the ball

 

2. catcher jumping out of the box before the pitch on an intentional walk

 

3. catcher interferes with a batter on a play where there is a steal.

 

I don't believe that there is an argument for the offense on the play that happened in the BW game. There is no rule that I can find that says the catcher cannot catch the ball outside of the catcher's box.

I assume, like a pitchers balk, any of the 4 could have made the call. And as far as interference at the bases, I have seen that more this year then ever before. In fact, in a 5-3 rally stopper against Trinity, blue called the interference at second when the piviot man actually stepped right in front of the base and into the slide instead of behind the bag or off to the side.

No, I am saying that if there was a violation, the 4 umpires did not see it.

 

Would not know where to find it in the rule book but I have seen it called once before.
