Feb. 15th....Get Here

Featured Replies

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL season is just right around the corner and FEB. 15th, is "The Day", many of us look forward to each winter day.....Hope the weather is cooperative, in all parts of the Bluegrass and returning players, staff and new candidates, are able to get outside.

Why don't we also, work on getting Previews together for BGP, from each of the 16 Regions. Contact your school's Coach and have him write a paragraph or so, to submit to the Mod's for the preview. Some poster could coordinate each Region, then submit to a Mod.

List the Region or School, you can help with and get to work....It can't get here soon enough but will be soon.....:thumb:

Great idea!!! and like you I CAN'T WAIT!!!:ylsuper:

Brr its still a little chilly on Feb 15th...

I can't wait. I actually get a head start on the rest of yuns cause the NKU softball team starts their season on Feb. 9-10...the baseball team start their season at the 17th of Feb but not sure exactly when actual practice can start...if it hasn't already.

Going to high school games and working them with the Rockcastle County staffs over the years has truely been a great pleasure for me and has fueled my love for the game. Everyone including players and coaches over the years have been the catalyst to me wanting to forever be involved somehow in the sport.

Taking from that last sentence, I have two mmore comments.

1) It must be the greatest feeling in the world to have a son or daughter come to you and say "Dad can we go outside and have a game of catch."

2) Baseball and softball people are some of the greatest people in the world to me.

To end this post, I will say that the smell of freshly cut grass on gameday is second to none!!!

To me there is no finer compliment than to call someone "a real baseball guy." (or girl, of course) To me it implies character and a certain knowledghe of our beloved sport. It transcends the competitiveness of the game and allows one to admire their adversary. It shows your deep love and admiration for those who have strapped on the leather, doubled into the gap or taken the extra base. It shows a reverence for those who have dedicated their lives to playing and teaching THE GAME. My greatest friends are some of the guys that sit in the opposite dugouts. God I love this game.

Excellent post and I feel the same way, been around Baseball all my life and I've made so many friendships through this great game, I could never return what I owe to the game.

You here some people with this habit, or that one....my vice is Baseball, preferably at the High School and College level.

Someone once referred to me as, "I know you, you're that Baseball guy"....

I just smiled and said, "Yes I am".....:D

Bulldog, I have to say thank you, you have made my day maybe even my year! The (or girl, of course) added to your statement brought a smile to my face. For a semester of college I had to prove to a group of guys (I was one of two girls in the class) that a girl really could know baseball as well as a guy.

February 15th has been one of my favorite days since I was in the 5th grade! This will be the first time in 15 years that someone from my family hasn't been apart of a high school team in some role.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Well, I could've but I'm respecting my elders...

I can't wait either. This will be a bittersweet season for me. I'll have one that will be playing his last HS season. Hopefully, he'll be playing on the next level next season. And I have another that's just starting.

Baseball has been around me all my life as well. Even though, I never really played, I enjoy watching these kids play that much more. The first memories I have is when my Father took me to a Little League game. I grew up in Ohio and the first time I stepped near the field, I was in Heaven. No prettier site than to see those lights shining down on the field and watching the game as it happened.

I took on the 14th region preview last year, and can do the same this year. But, I'll need a little help. If all of you 14th regioneers can get me some info it would greatly help out. I e-mailed the coaches last season and they provided me with a lot. So, anyone that is going to help out with a preview, just e-mail the coach/s at your school and/or region. They'll be glad to hear from a fan and help out as well.

...You know I'll do everything, to help in that respect....:thumb:

Same here and my father help build ours. I was fortunate enough to hit the first HR ever, on our LL fields (many years ago) and still have the ball signed by the person whom the field was named after....I later volunteers for 19 years and was President, of that same league for 9....Oh the memories.

Baseball people, seem to have a common bond that aren't often shared by other sports....We've all seen instances, where a pitcher gets applause from the opponents, when exiting and that says a lot, about Baseball people.

Very true. After ballgames I try my best to be outside the fence and tell those boys that they did a good job, win or lose. And I try to do the same for the opponents. And most of the players share a common bond. I know that Knott Central and Allen Central have a bond between them. It makes for a great atmosphere.

I was at a Tournament game in Louisville a few years ago, when it started raining and the host was short handed, with field workers....so we had about 6-8 of our parents (who also help with field maintenance) in attendance. We tarped, raked and spread drying agent....had it ready to go, in 30 min. The big thing was, our team wasn't playing that evening but we just were watching/scouting for the next day.

I looked at one of the guys and they shook their head from side/side, he knew what I was thinking.....:D He said, "Let me change shoes and I'll help you". Without asking, they all followed me to help.

Coach does that a lot. If we're at a tournament and a team leaves or doesn't show up, he volunteers to play in that spot. Boys like it, Dad's like it, but some of the Mom's don't. Something about shopping and shopping. :D
