Countdown is on, including today.....

21 Days till Feb. 15th.

Drill Tip: Squat Jump Throw

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and knees bent. Hold a medicine ball to your chest. Squat down until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Jump vertically while simultaneously driving your arms and the holding the ball.

Do not release the ball. As you land repeat immediately, try to minimize contact time with the ground. Concentrate on explosive movements with both the arms and legs for each repetition.

Plyometric exercise, which improves core, legs and lower back.

Thanks Romeo, I was busy yesterday.....:thumb:

Drill Tip: "Squash the Bug"

You hear the comment from coaches all the time, during hitting practice...to "squash the bug". Rotate the back foot, with toe rotating inward during point of impact and follow-thru.

When you do "squash the bug", make sure you're on the toes and not have the heel flat. Bend the back knee slightly and this will help promote, being on the toes and not instep/heels.

Countdown continues, including today.....

17 Days till Feb. 15th.

Drill Tip: "Tee Work"

All players need Tee Work, to work on balance, swing plane and repetition. Try placing "T" at lowest point, have player take 8 swings. Than raise to highest point, 8 more swings and finally to belt for final 8 swings. The different heights, will force the player to see the ball and adjust accordingly.

Do 3 sets of 8 and vary the location of the "T". One time, have inside and turn on, next have outside and away, to hit to right field, then in middle....vary locations and "T" heights, to complete hitting from all 3 heights and all 3 positions.

"Frigid" Countdown continues, including today.....

16 Days till Feb. 15th.

Drill Tip: "Sacrifice Bunting"

All players need to learn the art of Bunting, especially for a sacrifice....it might be the difference in the game.

Be sure to square, as the pitchers hands break, before going to his "strong position"....Be on the toes/balls of your feet, knees slightly bent and weight balanced. Make sure top hand, is firmly grasping trademark/barrel area and think of it contact, as trying to catch the top half of the ball, with the bat.

I also prefer the bat to not be flat, but near a 30° angle. Get the ball on the ground.

"Frigid" Countdown continues, including today.....First Day of February

15 Days till Feb. 15th.

Drill Tip: "Base Stealing"

Speed is a critical aspect of the game, but not all fast players are excellent Base-Stealers....Work on agility drills, ladders, foot speed and acceleration techniques, to help increase footspeed.

On RHP, the move is easy....watch the heels of a pitcher and if the left heel moves up, take off with a cross-over step and accelerate. This may allow an extra 2'-3' and which often times, is the result in safe or out.

LHP's are much difficult. I can't reveal my read secret here but often, players get caught in watching the head/face of a lefty....don't. Focus more on his right knee and body positioning. Observing, reading and timing, is a key for lefty's.

Confident aren't we? :D

What about a righty? I know a secret from when I coached AABC. I only had one runner ever caught stealing by using my method. He was flirting with the opposing teams 2nd baseman, a girl. :D

You've got to watch him....He was going to help me with the countdown, but could only count backwards from 10.

By the way, post some of your Drills in the daily tip section....or anyone, to help out as many KY HS players, as possible. Just keep all the top secret stuff, a secret.
