"Snowy & Frigid" Countdown continues, including today.....

14 Days till Feb. 15th.

Drill Tip: "Arm Recovery"

Early on, Pitchers along with Position players, will have tenderness and soreness from throwing. Develop a good throwing program and make sure prior to any throwing, a Stretching/Loosening warm up is included.

After throwing is complete, again complete the stretching and loosening program for the arms and legs....this will maintain flexibility, plus help increase blood flow, back to repair any capillary damage.

Ice the arm for approx. 20 min., to help minimize any micro-bleeding which does occur in muscle tissue (otherwise known as a muscle strain). Also get proper sleep, to help the entire body recover. Nutrition is key, as to consume food that the body can use as fuel, to help replace expend energy. Wind sprints or jogging after pitching/throwing, help circulate the blood and expedite the healing process.

Don't sleep on your arm, as this will take 1-2 days to complete recover at times.

Countdown continues, including today.....

11 Days till Feb. 15th.

Here's a drill for the OF'ers.

4 cone drill:

Make a large square with 4 cones in the Outfield

Then put a group of 2 or 3 guys at each cone. Now hit baseballs into the center of the square and the players take turns running and making catches. After you make a play you just go get in a line that is conveinent to where you are when you've caught the ball... They get practice catching from all the different angles, ground balls, lazy flies, bullets, etc... however you feel like hitting them.... The bigger you make your square the more running involved... younger kids will need a smaller square (your varsity outfield can get a pretty good workout quickly). You can incorporate a throw with it or not.

Better get out the snow shovels Baseball fans.

So how many schools schedule games in early March? If I was a coach, I would get as many games scheduled as possible as you can always count on 8-10 rainouts. Living in the midwest is soooooooo nice isnt it.

I hope next week it warms up or that first pratice might be a cold one.

This will be the second Feb. 15 that I can remember in a long time not being around the game. I've enjoyed all the posts on here, but it only makes me realize how much more I miss playing.

I wish somehow I could find some people and a place to play a pickup game again, or find some kind of team to help out with.

Volunteer at your local High School or college, in some capacity. Check with youth league organizations or traveling teams, see if your services can be used.

Programs are always in, of people who are passionate about the game of Baseball and willing to help. Best of luck....:thumb:

PLAY WITH HONOR

Always hustle, run out every ground ball and pop up, encourage your teammates, especially after an error, bad pitch, or a strike out, carry yourself with pride and dignity. Do not in frustration throw equipment. Do not ridicule another team or an opposing player’s name, physical appearance, skill. Do not taunt. Do not distract an opposing player with low-level antics. Be positive with teammates. Never ridicule or criticize your teammates. They need your encouragement the most immediately after they have made a mistake. Show your teammates, your opponents, the entire world how much you love Baseball, by how you play.

There is alot of this that goes on.

KHSAA will not allow anyone to schedule a game prior to the conclusion of the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen State Basketball Tournament. This year that happens on March 24, 2007. Teams are allowed to play scrimages prior to that and that is limited to only two (2). So early March games are not a possibility.

Do you think this would be different if we were in a warmer climate like Fla or Georgia?

NO EXCUSES.

Do not blame teammates, umpires, coaches, fans, or the position of the moon for your performance. Take responsibility for what happens on the field. Stand up, make no excuses, refuse the excuses that others might offer you. Excuses get in the way of learning because mistakes are denied. Be accountable. Remember you are not expected to be a perfect performer. No one is. Baseball is not an easy game to play.

BE RELENTLESS

Never Yield. Never Yield. Regardless of what the scoreboard says, you are never defeated unless you give up, unless you go belly up. No opponent can make you do this. Giving up is something you do. Regardless of what the scoreboard says, no opponent can extinguish the flame in your heart or crush the intensity of your will without your consent. Never surrender.
