Have you heard Dustin Kensrue's solo cd? It is only 7 songs I believe, and kind of country, but I love it. Thrice is a band I really enjoy, and their live show is outstanding if you ever get a chance to see them. Although I do like many different types of music, I was suprised how much I enjoyed "Please Come Home." I would actually challenge Jim Schue to give the cd a try. I'm not sure if he would like Thrice, but I think a lot of people could get into his solo work.

It seemed like Luke Recker was in college basketball for about 10 years, with I believe 3 different schools.

My Freshman year of high school I road in the backseat of a Mustang to Columbus with a buddy, his brother, and his brother's friend for our floor tickets to see Saves the Day, Green Day, and Blink 182.

FWIW, I was at batting practice once when Danny Graves played for the Reds. He signed my hat and made small talk, asking if I played and so on which made my day and forever altered my opinion of him. It's amazing that I can remember just about every ball player I met, or ignored me when I was younger. I often wonder if players realize how much of an effect a smile and a few words have when they see little kids. I'm sure it gets annoying day in and day out, but I'd like to assume that I would be considered a friendly baseball player if ever in the situation.

I had never heard of the Reverend before, but saw them open for Flogging Molly a couple months back. I think the majority of the crowd was in the same situation as me, but by the end of their set the entire audience was yelling and clapping along For anyone who wants to check them out, the Reverend sings and plays an old acoustic guitar with a slide. His brother is on the drums with a 5-gallon bucket, and his wife plays a washboard. Definately not a sound I usually listen to, but after seeing them, I immediately picked up a cd.

I got to know Frankie my freshman year of college. I think I could go years without seeing or hearing of him and never forget his name.

Very nice tribute BF. I saw this on tv when I got home from class today, and was at a loss for words for a few minutes. Like many in this thread, I am one of those kids who grew up as a third generation listener of Marty and Joe. Many great memories have occured in the summer with this two of them as background noise. If any of you get a chance to read Joe's book, I highly reccommend it. I gave it to my dad for Christmas one year then read it when he was finished. The similarities between Nuxy and my grandfather are uncanny. I know Joe was sick and he is now in a better place, however this is a sad day as a fan of the Reds and as a fan of baseball

The light is very clear from the AA IMO, and I don't like to single out truck drivers, but I see them run it all the time. The light is by a hill, so many times they don't want to brake when going down the hill, or as they are gaining speed don't want to stop then start again. I know everyone has similar stories for any road, but I distinctly remember one time I was a passenger with my father stopped at a red light to cross the AA. For some reason we were too interested in a conversation to notice that the light had changed green. By the time we noticed my dad checked both ways to be sure and a semi was speeding across the intersection. By the time the truck had cleared the light had already turned red again. As well as worrying about any vehicle running the red light, Poplar Ridge coming down toward the AA comes at a bend, so you can see if you have a green light, but unless you slow down to basically a stop, you can't tell if a car is approaching the light fast at all. Added to the fact that it is a quick light so many drivers don't slow down when approaching a red light, it is a dangerous intersection.

I did in fact read this story, but the simple fact that there is discussion of a 10 year old in the college sports forum speaks volumes about the state of youth basketball today, and even more scary, where it is heading.

This will be the second Feb. 15 that I can remember in a long time not being around the game. I've enjoyed all the posts on here, but it only makes me realize how much more I miss playing. I wish somehow I could find some people and a place to play a pickup game again, or find some kind of team to help out with.

I have never received a ticket, but have been in a car where the driver got one but definately deserved it. I have been pulled over twice though when the officer straight out lied to me. Once I was with a friend in a beat up truck going up a hill on the AA after being at a stop. The cop said we were going 90 in a 55, made us get out of the car, patted us down and checked the truck. The thing is, we were going up a hill, and the speedometer only went up to 80. The driver insists that he couldn't even get the truck to do 80 down a hill, let alone 90, yet we never got in trouble because we didnt do anything wrong. Another time, on a Valentine's Day, I was stopped at a stoplight with no other cars around taking a girl to the movies. When I started going, an officer pulled me over, and told me I was going 88 in a 45, while following the person in front of me too closely. The cop only asked for my liscense and not for a proof of insurance. He said he was going to check if anything came up on me, yet just stood outside his car doing nothing and didn't get a radio call or anthing when he came back. Nothing happed out of it, but it was physically impossible for me to be driving that fast at the time, and there was nobody else on the road for me to be following. Nothing happened to me, and you can't possibly tell me a cop would have let me go if I really was driving 43 mph over the speed limit.

Granted I was only 6 when this speech was given in 1993, however after watching this speech again, one thing stuck out to me in particular. You hear about cancer all of the time today, and while there will never be enough money, it seems as if scientists are making great strides toward finding a cure. Jimmy talked about how AIDS received so much compared to the lack a funds genrated for cancer research. It really is amazing to see how in 13 years cancer research has been brought to the attention of everyone.

Thank you very much for the post on the entire transcript GT. I came into my room to post, but had to wait when I saw they weren't done talking when they showed Pitino talking about Billy Minardi and the other stories. I could watch the speech every day. To date, I've never seen anyone talk that has struck up such emotion inside me. Thanks again for the entire speech, so I can now save it to read occasionally, instead of only hearing it only once a year.

Ripken was my favorite player growing up. When he retired, in jest, I asked my Dad if we could go to Cooperstown when Cal gets enshrined, and he said yes. A few weeks ago I reminded him of this deal, still not thinking he was serious about it. To my suprise he is gung-ho about going. He might be a bigger baseball fan than me, and he has always wanted to go. I'm already looking forward to spending a some time with just my dad and baseball.
