I have heard a few different things by people on the status of Rashard Carter playing for the Tomcats this year. Some says he is playing and some say that he is not playing. Does anyone really know his status? Has anyone seen him on the field at an Ashland practice or team function? I really hope he is playing because he is really fun to watch. I think he can really help the Tomcats this year and have a big year stat wise in the process. He's an incredible athlete who is just a joy to watch play on Friday nights.

Why would Russell fans get upset about Raceland playing @ Ashland?

Sounds like a prediction coming from a player. Hey, it's bold but I love the enthusiasm.

Most people just assume that if a school won't play another it's because their afraid of taking a loss when that is probably the rarest of reasons. It's all about the mighty dollar people!

No way that Ironton is closer to Russell than Raceland.

Russell plays Ashland at home every other year.

I completely disagree. First, Watch the trajectory of the ball from the time it leaves the pitcher's hands, it doesn't change at all. Second, watch the reaction of the batter. He doesn't move at all. It's almost a certain that someone is going to at least duck or flinch if a ball is coming at their head. Third, after the pitch hits the umpire he's looking at the runner waiving him to stop. If he had gotton hit I'm sure he would have known it was a dead ball. He would have took off toward 1st, not stay in the box waiving the runner to stay. Forth, the umpire never calls "dead ball". If it had hit the batter then he would have seen it and heard it hit his helmet. I'm an umpire and I've been hit by hundreds of pitches, many of which has hit the batter first and I've always been able to make the determination of a hit batsman. I'm sure this umpire has also and considering it was a state championship game, I would imagine that he has quite alot of experience. Lastly, I doubt very seriously if they would punish that kid so severely if the batter had been hit first. That college would not have revoked his offer if that were the case. I'm sure this pitch has been scrutinized by the top state athletic officials and if it had hit the batter, don't you think it would have been considered? I don't think there is any question that the batter wasn't hit. Think logically about it and I think it speaks for itself. Oh, and why would someone do that in the state title game? Look at what the score was and there is the answer. JMO!

The thread stated Vanderhoof may be the top player in the region, he thinks Wilcox may make a claim on that title. I would have to agree with that statement. She has been playing very well this summer and I'm sure she's working hard for the up-coming year. Though I know it's only summer ball, Ali and the Kittens look primed and determined to win the region this year. I know this is a bit off topic and I apologize, it's just my thought after seeing them play in Raceland Camp. Back to topic.......

Who will be the HC? Where are they going to play their home games?

Not sure if they will even compete for the regional title then, very possible though. I think it depends on the younger players coming up through Russell. I think next year's 7th grade class will be the very good and they will be there when Skaggs is a senior so I think they will be a very good group coming though. I saw Kyle Skaggs yesterday and it looks as though he has grown at least 2 inches since the season ended and maybe more than that. Looks as though he's hitting his growth spurt that everyone knew he had coming soon.

You call for a change after watching 1 game? I think I would hold off on that assumption until I saw a bit more than 1 game. Raceland has an excellant staff, a staff that includes a MLB veteran. Randy Vanderhoof is an excellant coach at football and baseball. From what I have seen and heard, he stickler on fundamentals and I'm sure he or his staff will be working on them in practice this week if what you say is true. IMO, I think you should watch them a bit more than 1 game to make an assumption like that.

Yeah, he has been an assistant for a while but he takes on the role of scout. He doesn't do much or any coaching at practice or games.

I don't agree with this at all. I don't think it had anything to do with where anyone was from. If the best candidate is from Russell or from Montana, it doesn't much matter to them. I'd say that Dodd was pretty successful while at Russell and I think McGlone has had some success also. I'd have to check on that but I think he's done pretty well while at Russell. I don't think that all this add up to a "horrible history" of hiring coaches and if they hire Merle then that will just prove that it doesn't matter to them where a person is from. The best candidate is the best candidate no matter where he or she is from. One more thing, when McGlone finally does step down as the football coach, I'd bet the farm that Russell's next coach is wearing maroon and gold already.

I would say that he would bring his coaches with him. I wouldn't look for him to bring any of Dodd's staff, although I think he should bring Todd Parsley with him. He is a great coach and he knows how to teach post players. He played college ball and has a great basketball mind. I'd say he would bring maybe Bill Renzy, Joe Bryan, Sean Horne with him also. JMO!

I doubt this true at all. No offense, I know you're just posting what you were told but I don't believe it for a second. The players played for Coach Dodd and he wasn't necessarily a player's coach, so Kidwell is mind compared to Dodd. I hope Merle gets the job, he's a heckava coach who deserves his shot in the boys game.

Dugout restrictions are normally for coaches. The umpire should have ejected the player if he thought the action crossed the line of sportsmanship. He obviously didn't want to have the player miss an additional game because of his actions. I wasn't there and I try not to make an assumption on Preps but if it happenned exactly the way it is stated above, I would have just warned the batter and told him to knock it off. Then I would have went to the coach between innings and make sure that the coach warned him as well. There could have been an earlier incident in which the umpire had already warned that player for his actions. There could have been a dozen different scenerios that took place, you would have had to have asked the umpire for an explanation.

Ward did mean alot to the kittens last year but I don't think she is irreplacable. Ashland will have 4 returning starters and 2 players over 6ft tall and one with tremendous upside to her. I think if the 2 Russell players do transfer to the Tomcats that it will give them exactly what the rest of the region doesn't want them to get- great depth.

I just want to say a couple of things... Vanhoose and Blair were freshman when they started playing varsity ball at Russell. Robinson did come in as a senior though. I think Greenup would do just fine with either Dodd or Smith, both are qualified. I can see the pros and cons of both. It may be good to have a Greenup guy come in and take over but it may be better to have an outsider(of Greenup) come in and take over. I don't know enough of the siuation to say either way. It all depends on what the adminstration wants to do and from what I've been hearing from the birdie at my window is that they are leaning toward the outsider.
