  1. Definitely "The Dance" sounds like my life!
  2. The head coach turns to the assistant and asked the question: Any Suggestions on what to do? This question I have heard numerous times over the past games I have been to. How do you win a basketball game? I will start this by saying I have never coached girls basketball but have coached another girls sport. Here is just one scenario: The game has just begun, your team is down 14-11 in the 1st quarter, your guard has 6 of the 11 points, hot from the 3pt line. She is pulled and sat on the bench. Another starter makes a bad pass, she is pulled and put on the bench, so now lets say 3 of your 5 starters are now sitting, not really in any type of foul trouble and suddenly by the end of the the 2nd quarter your team is now down 25-11. The flow of your players is not there, they do not play well together, it is a group of 5 playing individually and at half time you are out of the game. Can someone explain to me, why you wouldn’t leave your starters in and play through when the game is still within reach? Why pull a player who is on a hot streak from the 3pt line? Why let the substitutions continue? It would be different if the depth of your bench was strong. You have a starting five for a reason? Is it that your starters are 3 seniors and 2 juniors and you feel the need to build your younger players? I will say that this pattern of “subs” happens whether the team is winning or losing. Leads of 10-20 have been blown with this type of coaching and the coach seems to be at a loss of what to do to make this work. It is my turn to ask “Any suggestions?” I would not ask if this was a one time thing, but this has been the pattern all season long.
  3. Anyone know the outcome of the game last night, PC vs Scott?
  4. I am not a big fan of quitters either but it happened in my house. My daughter did the whole basketball thing through grade/middle school. She wanted to play in highschool so for the summer prior to her freshman year she did all the camps/training/conditioning that they had, did try outs made the team. All well and good I thought. What I did not know was that the coach had pretty much told her she would never be a very good basketball player and would probably sit the bench most of her career, although letting her "make the team". She agreed to stay on the team and told the coach she wanted to play. She knew my rules in my house and practically was in tears after every practice and would not tell me. That is unusual for her and I, pretty open honest realtionship between us, she just did not want to disappoint me. She told my best friend how it was and she wanted to quit, this was the only time I agreed with her. If coaches have a player that they know do not have the talent, why keep them? Maybe this was an isolated incident but never really understood why she just wasn't cut...
  5. I do believe you are right on this, I haven't lived in Ft Thomas for over 20 years and I (along with my sibling) will be making that trip for this patron saint of HHS sports.
  6. When at a green traffic light and not blocking lane in case it would turn red before I moved and the guy sitting at the red light waiting to turn right on red and does so, even though I am trying to be polite and not block the lane in case he would get the green light!!!!!
  7. There will be as many friends welcoming her to heaven as there will be going to say goodbye Thanks Vi for everything you taught us HHS kids, you were definitely one of a kind, love you always.
  8. What an awesome person, this past football season me and 6 of the old high school gang went to a game at HHS, immediately the conversation turned to sitting on the 50 yrd line and who is now sitting in Vi's seat...the memories of HHS always have Vi Gerding in them somewhere. Prayers are with you Vi. Will love you always!
  9. Not to hijack this thread, but the PC girls team will be playing Bishop Brossart earlier on Saturday at home, I think frosh starts at 1pm. During both games, the PC Basketball Boosters will be selling split the pot tickets with proceeds going to one of our girl's players mother/family for her treatment of cancer. She is a single of mother of 3 and in process of having chemo/radiation treatments. Hope to have big turn outs for both sets of games, thanks.
  10. Didn't know Harrison coach was gone, do you know where and why?
  11. Didn't Nicholas Co and Harrison lose alot of players to graduation? Pendleton is returning 6-7 seniors this year, only lost 1 to graduation, I do believe they will be higher than 8th. They beat Bracken, Scott, Bishop Brossart and Campbell Co last year and a 2 run loss to Nicholas in the district game. I do believe that if Pendleton is going to make a run in the district/region, 2008 is the year, they may be the sleeper team this year. My pick: 1. Montgomery 2. Clark 3. Bourbon 4. Harrison 5. Pendleton 6. Bracken 7. Bishop Brossart 8. Nicholas Co 9. Mason 10. Scott 11. Campbell Co
  12. My daughter has wanted a pair of Nike shocks for the past 4 or so years, finally going to get them, cannot wait for her to open the gift card and go on line to order...
  13. I can only imagine, those type of things didn't happen when I was in school there. I can remember my brother coming in afterschool on Friday and my mom had him a steak & baked potato dinner waiting!!
  14. I remember the days at Highlands cafeteria, the football players didn't have to order extra, the cafeteria ladies just made sure they got extra, especially on game day!!
  15. The problem I see is that they are supposed to be serving healthy lunches...one menu I have seen...mashed potatoes, mac & cheese and peas along with a meat selection. How many startches do you need in one meal? I understand the portion control aspect but when you have kids that are in school all day and then go right to sports practice or game, without the chance to get a snack, it makes for a long time between meals and they are absolutely starving by the time practice/game is over.
  16. Deming will win, PC has had 2 players quit, one was a starter...
  17. Way to Birds, congrats on bringing it home. The "team" effort is amazing, never have seen a more determined team. To the underclassmen, keep the drive alive. To the seniors, what way to go out, beautiful!! To the coaches and staff, thanks for all you do and will do. BG-Congrats to you all on a great season as well. See you again I am sure.
  18. Good Luck to all tonight, play hard, play strong, play smart and may the good Lord keep everyone safe...to my alma mater, bring home that "cake topper". It has been a few years since my graduation but once a "cake", always a "cake". I managed to get to a few games this year and this team reminds me of my brother's team, the 1970-71 champs and no one could stop them either. GO BIRDS!!!!
  19. "When I Get Where I Am Going" played at my mother's funeral, takes me back to the good days "Why Me Lord" my deceased father's favorite song, tried to find it to play at his funeral, couldn't find a copy "Freebird" takes me back to senior year in high school, was class song...
  20. Try going to Koch's Sporting Goods store in Cincy, they are very helpful and are in the know...good luck!
  21. "What about the Belfy win in 1979 in the semis. Probably the game that got Belfry's program over the hump." Everytime I am around the seniors from that year, that is still a hot topic...will not let that dropped pass in the endzone be forgotten!! Could of and should of won that one!
