  1. Just a little FYI on this series: My grandfather played for Male back in the 30's. I still have scrapboook with a C-J article about the game. If you think T vs. X is big today, then consider this: In (I believe) 1935 the ENTIRE FRONT PAGE (not the Sports page, the FRONT page) was devoted to this game. A team photo of Male and a mugshot of their coach was above the fold and the same for Manual below the fold. This was so much bigger than even any college rivalry at the time. Also, Male 35, Manual 13...for my grandpa!
  2. Go Catholics! 21-20 Bethlahem. I'm curious...is there any other venue in which this could be played? Obviously Papa John's is not an option for a number of reasons, but is there a small college around that could hold more than 3,000?
  3. Definitely pine tar - anyone who knows anything about baseball knows by the color of the stuff. It was either that or honey, and Winnie the Pooh was nowhere to be found. If LaRussa had known during the inning he could have asked the plate umpire (and perhaps the crew chief also) to inspect the baseball (best done after Rogers threw a looping curveball.) Then inspect Rogers hand, glove, whatever. Lots of pitchers tinker with foreign substances when they lose a few MPHs on their pitches. On a side note, the Tigers have polar opposites on their team in Rogers and Sean Casey. One of them is a very pleasant person.
  4. St. X hangs 50 on Butler and the Bears don't score until the X subs are in. Final score: 54-12.
  5. To get back to the thread topic: Trinity 49 - SC 14. The next three games for T are all about getting fine tuned for the November 17 game against X or H.
  6. Rocks win 56-0. I didn't see the Ballard game but it sounded bad on paper. And Fern Creek sounds worse on paper than Ballard.
  7. Missing the stlye of football that was played is one thing. I can understand that. However, that is not what the thread is about. It is about missing Hal Mumme. Anyone who misses him is basically saying, "I dont' care about ethics, integrity or really much of anything except winning (or at least putting up points)." I would much rather have my son play for Rich Brooks than Hal Mumme.
  8. This reminds me: I think my son is playing out of position and the coach exercised some bad play calling last week...I need to get on the phone with our superintendent! Honestly I cannot believe this has transpired. If this is about the kids then I think they are learning a poor life lesson. I agree with a previous post that if the coach had done something immoral or illegal then by all means relieve him of his duties today. If it is about who's playing or not playing and wins/losses, then bite your lip and do your best to support them (which I would bet 90+% of the Boyle Co. fans are doing). If the people in charge (which does not include the parents) are not happy with the results this season, then fire the coach at season's end.
  9. 80 points is a lot, and, IMO, not necessary. I do not believe you tell reserve players to lie down, but it looks like Beaumont may have been in there running up some Mr. Football numbers?
  10. Carter lacked charisma, which is basically the ability to get others to follow you. Plus he has gotten even more liberal in his old age, which may taint his presidency to some degree. Most everyone agrees that Carter was (is) highly intelligent, but that is not enough in politics. I'm conservative, but I will concede that Clinton had the most charisma for my generation (even more than Reagan IMO). I believe that most Americans are more conservative than they sometimes let on, that is to say that outwardly they do not proclaim their opinions because they might not be politically correct. However, when they get to the voting booth they vote conservative. I wrote a paper on carter back when he was campaigning for reelection and I wasn't a big fan of his administration even then. I think it says something for a sitting president when he not only does not win reelection, but he has an independent make an impact (John Anderson).
  11. Brilliant. A better idea would be to not assist in educating them. That would curb the "sinning". You've got to be kidding.
  12. So the vote here would be "stupid criminal"?
  13. Ryle better win by a lot or else they will be questioning themselves - which they cannot afford to do as playoff time nears.
  14. I just picked up LaMont Jordan before last week's game, so I am temporarily happy. As to the topic of the thread, I have never ever been a Moss fan. I think he is a clubhouse cancer every bit as bad as T.O.
  15. For the record 56-0. The reason I don't think Eastern will score is that if T comes out with a vengeance, then they could be up 49-0 by the first possession of the second half. That would mean a running clock, so each team might only have the ball two more times after that.
  16. 8 years times 3 teams times an average of 3 or 4 playoff games per year is Approximatley 85 playoff games for Big 3 teams since 1998. 15 were "close", though the Big 3 won 9 of those. I'm no mathematician, but it looks to me like other teams have no better than about a 1:12 chance of beating T, X, or Male in the playoffs. Usually it takes one of them to beat the other.
  17. I haven't seen Male play yet this year, but I plan on going to the Male/X game. On paper Male looks to be pretty darn tough. I think Redman wants to keep trying to fly under the radar as much as possible (though 59-0 over PRP may have made that an impossiblilty.)
  18. Apparently he hasn't punted much this year. I did go to their first game when he punted a few times. Awesome. Two of his punts that night were NFL caliber...45 plus yards with LOTS of hang time.
  19. I agree, BUT...he must go for 150 yards against Male. He was fair against Trinity for a quarter, but not exactly spectacular. For Anderson to win he has to be head and shoulders above others out in the state because there is a (perceived) bias against Louisville schools.
  20. A Cards loss tonight & a Reds win will make it very interesting. Does anyone know why the Cards are on pace to play 161 games? Do they have a doubleheader left? They should have to make it up if they finish 1/2 in front of the Reds or Astros with one fewer game played. And what about a three way tie? What happens then?
  21. I think the only real question is if the round 3 game is Male (#2 seed) vs. Trinity (#1 seed), would the game be played at Trinity or the Pizza Box? I would think that if Male is a #1 seed and makes it to round 3 then they would choose to play at home against Trinity as it should play more to their advantage.
