  1. Ryle played hard and their fans were great. But let's be honest: Male, Henry Clay and Ballard all gave the Rocks a better game. All of the pre-game "Smash mouth vs. finesse" stuff went right out the window. Trinity hit harder and executed a LOT better. And the only sure fire D1 player T has (as I understand it) is their kicker. I think they've earned everything they've gotten. And on a side note: Did the team that beat Trinity win the state title in Tennessee?
  2. Oh yeah, and congratulations Rocks. What a TEAM effort!
  3. Easily the second best team in the state, probably at any division, IMO.
  4. C-J today said Bob Beatty is 61-0 at Trinity when scoring 39 pts or more. Can Ryle hold them to 38 or less? This game just doesn't seem to be shaping up as a battle of Ryle "O" vs. Trinity "D"...it looks more to me like the battle will be the Ryle "D" vs. Trinity "O". As I've said before, let's have sportsmanship, no injuries, and may the better team win.
  5. C-J today has AM 970 for tonight's 4-A game.
  6. Fine by me. Owners and players already have a lot more commas on their pay checks than I do. Don't feed the greed.
  7. ^^^ Brohm vs. Couch...Bush vs. Beaumont...Lorenzen vs. the Buffet...the possibilities are endless! :jump: To reiterate: The award needs to go to Beaumont.
  8. You're still 3 short and I would be very surprised if any Jefferson County school had any students, athletes or otherwise, from any of these counties, though I guess anything is possible.
  9. A little twist on the whole Mr. Football discussion: Which player(s) would you nominate for "most valuable" to his team, and let me explain... If X plays without Anderson they still had Duece. If T plays without Petrino they still had Stein (arguably a bigger gap than the X example.) But if Male plays without Beaumont their team is completely changed. Same could be said for Minnifield at HC. What other single players out there were so valuable to their teams that, had they been lost for some reason, it would have completely altered the season that the team had?
  10. Heck, I would bet that most BGPers (myself included) couldn't even NAME 13 other counties that radiate out from Jefferson Co. I cannot imagine any school that draws kids from 14 different counties. And you know what?, even if they do that really says something for a school if a student wants to travel 45 minutes to and from every day to go there. I do not believe that the privates have free busses toting these kids around. (And for the record, I have one grade school son in a public school by my choice.)
  11. Agreed. And no way anyone should win this year over Beaumont.
  12. One of my buddies cannot go now, so my over/under is down to 8964.
  13. You've got to be kidding. Let's put it this way. If you coach X and could trade Vic for Beaumont, would you? I wouldn't hesitate a moment, as (IMO) Beaumont has Vic beat on the tangibles and the intangibles. Now, if you coach X and you could trade Vic for Petrino, would you? I would in a New York minute as Duece is a more than competent #2 guy (I would argue #1A) and Petrino would give X the missing ingredient they need to perhaps be the best team in the state. I stand by my earlier Mr. Football rankings (with apologies to statewide teams that I did not see): Beaumont, Petrino, Minnifield, Anderson.
  14. Back to the topic (as I have only seen one real PREDICTION): I will set the over/under for the 4-A game at 8965. If I hit it on the nose I will be leaving for Vegas on Friday morning.
  15. So what then? Don't play with a clock? Beaumont is a complete player and deserves Mr. Football. Period. Petrino may not be the all-around athlete that Minnifield is, but you would be hard pressed to say he is not a better football player. Anderson did not show up for a couple of games when all eyes were on him. I cannot speak to some of the other candidates out in the state. At any rate, may the best young man win.
  16. 1 -- Trinity 1A -- (Male, if only they were eligible for the poll!) 2 -- Cov Cath 3 -- B.G. 4 -- Ryle 5 -- Danville 6 -- Mercer Co. 7 -- Russell 8 -- NCC (Though I admit I know very little about A & AA classes. There have been years, however, when Danville would probably be #1 on this list.)
  17. I saw the 2004 game. Trinity is probably better than they were then. I have not seen Ryle since, but I have a hard time believing they've improved by 50 points, though I guess anything is possible. I'll go with 42-14 Rocks. I hope the game is clean, injury free, and that they better team wins.
  18. BG by 3 TDs. Though I would love to see an underrated (or some would argue overachieving?) Jefferson County public school pull this one off. The Jackets need a big home field advantage.
  19. Who's on the airwaves? I know that Trinity will be on AM 900 in Louisville and at http://www.trinityrocks.com (then follow the links)... I've also heard that a Lexington station will be broadcasting for Henry Clay, though I don't know the frequency. Is there will be a Bowling Green/Central link somewhere(?)... How about others, as there should be a few more.
  20. In all fairness, he had 18 years to develop one of them.
  21. He's not wrong...Feeder schools send students directly from middle school to high school (like, I believe, Barrett to Male). Traditionally 8th graders from Catholic schools do attend Catholic high schools, but they are not "fed" to them. That's why all private high schools work so hard to attract students. They are not guaranteed any new students each year.
  22. I can see H still being #1 because I believe even T fans acknowledge that they could just have easily won last week, and they recently beat X by a LOT. X being #2 is comical - they were blown out by H and also by T (even if only for a qtr.). That being said...who cares???!!!
  23. Anyone who saw T vs. H knows that Beaumont was the best player on the field. Anderson became less and less of a factor as the season wore on. He didn't show up for the T game or the second H game. (My X friends think that Duece will make folks forget about Victor pretty much immediately.) As to Petrino, too many voters associate "Mr. Football" with "Who's the Best NCAA Prospect" so Petrino won't get it. Though I personally hope he is runner-up to Beaumont.
  24. That is a very valid point that I really cannot argue. It just seems wrong that if (hypothetically speaking here) Trinity beats Ryle 54-0 in the state final game Ryle will be awarded the state runner-up trophy instead of Male, who all would agree is the second best team. I understand there is no way to fix it - I guess I just feel bad for Male more than anything.
