  1. "No, I'm sorry. The correct response is, 'Who will defeat the overachieving New York Mets in round 1.' Spindoc, you have control of the board - make a selection."
  2. "I'll take St.Louis Cardinals for $1000, Alex."
  3. Better?, yes; "leaps and bounds"?, no. The few times I've seen (or at least followed) Elder over the past few years, I think you would be hard pressed to say ANY team is "leaps and bounds" better than them.
  4. I think it's kept in the same vault as the recipe for Krispy Kreme doughnuts and the formula for Coca-Cola. Only like 3 people on the entire planet know the specifics.
  5. I agree with you (and disagree with Kissinger). The whole govermental special-interest red-tape bureaucracy thing is the stream in which the KHSAA is afloat. The best interests of the student-athlete are not driving the boat.
  6. Agreed. T and X have proven that our best can play with their best, but when you get to the middle-of-the-pack schools Ohio becomes the much better football state.
  7. If juniors who start on varsity are also starting at the same position on junior varsity, then that is wrong. Otherwise, get over it and play ball. (I think the game is still for the kids, correct?)
  8. Currently there are 4 state champoions. Going to 6 is a 50% increase in state champions. Adding 2 more champions is indeed only .9% of the TOTAL SCHOOLS involved, but it waters the CHAMPIONSHIP down by a MUCH greater percentage. By your logic is seems that one could argue for 2 more championships in, say, 2010 (heck, it's only .9% more), then maybe 2 more in 2015 (because what's another .9%?) I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, but seriously, at what point would there be too many championships? Is 6 the perfect number? I remember when the state went from 3 to 4 classes. We're bypassing 5 and going straight to 6 championships. Will we go straight to 8 or 10 classes in 30 more years? I believe the change is neither prudent nor necessary.
  9. St X falls behind early, trails for most of the game, and comes back to win it late by one point...A missed extra point by Highlands comes back to haunt them. Make it 21-20 St X.
  10. I didn't think high schools were allowed (or at the very least not supposed) to take liquor store ads. I know in the "old days" beer companies sponsored EVERYTHING, but I thought I'd heard somewhere that it can no longer be done. In fact, I remember at the LIT in Louisville Gardens a couple of years ago, covers had to be placed over the beer signs on the scoreboard (?)
  11. If that were changed to "though not as great as some might think" then I would agree 100%. Somehow I just feel that coaching, discipline, pride, etc. plays a bigger part. I think the 1A & 3A schools in Northern KY would probably agree.
  12. I would try to trade Troupe or Evans or even Addai for a little better/different defense, though I wouldn't give up Randle El or Taylor. (note: I don't have my schedule in front of me, but if Alexander, Jackson, and Taylor all have different bye weeks you can afford to cut Addai loose.) Let Wash split time as your starting defense with whichever defense you pick up (match-ups are pretty important)...one-two punch of Alexander & Jackson is HUGE (both of them should have gone in the top six or seven picks - how the heck did you get Jackson if your draft position was, at worst, 3rd?)...if QBs only get 4 pts for TD passes then you are loaded. I've even seen Holt go as high as the second WR in the draft. Don't pick up another TE until Gates' bye week and then just discard a K for that one week. In a 10 team league you can get a good K for a few weeks with no problem. Good Luck!!!
  13. I'm sure T, X, and the cincy schools could make more money with home games, but what an experience for a few hundred kids to get to play on that field!
  14. I honestly think they would fare better than Ballard, Eastern, PRP, Oldham County and (insert Louisville area 4A team here). I cannot put a finger on WHY they would fare better, I just know that it's NOT because of the number of male students in the school. That being said I think everyone would have to agree that the more students you have the better chance you have of finding good players. And I agree with an earlier post that comparing football & basketball is not a valid arguement. But while numbers HELP, it is not the overwhelming end-all be-all that underachieving schools make it out to be IMO.
  15. I mentioned Wah-Wah in post 29 & 36...glad to see some folks finally agree!
  16. Seriously, I've heard Wah-Wah Jones was a phenomenal football player as well. I just doubt that there are any BGPers who ever saw him play!
  17. He would not hold KHSAA football records if ANY of the following had occurred: a) Brohm had started at T as a freshman b) Couch's coach had sat him down when games were in hand c) he had to play against bigger/better defenses For a two sport guy you would have to say Bush...Derek Smith (Highlands), Bernard Jackson (X), and Shaun Johnson (T) were also great in both sports. Johnson did not play basketball his senior year and it really hurt T. Now that I think of it, Wah-Wah Jones may just belong at the top of this list! (And I wonder if King Kelly Coleman played football?)
  18. What does anyone think? http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060830/SPORTS/608300528/1002/SPORTS I think numbers helps, but players from big schools don't just show up and accept trophies. Coaching , facilities, and yes, discipline and attitude DO matter...a LOT. You could never convince me that private school coaches don't put in more time than (most) public school counterparts. I sincerely wish the public schools would become more competitive, but not through legislation. In the 70's & 80's Butler, Ballard, Fern Creek, Southern and a few others in Jefferson County had very tough teams. For that matter, Atherton was really good just a few decades ago. Also, today's letter writer tried to, in a sensationalist manner, re-write the previous letter writer's points with an extra pinch of acrimony, IMO.
  19. OK, so Texas, Florida & Californis are givens...what about South Carolina? Bryne (sp?) looked pretty good on TV Saturday.
  20. The last game of the season (and no, I didn't just graduate from X)
  21. This might be the lock of the week. Glaser won't lose this one. The only way it stays close for even 2 minutes is if FC wins the coin toss.
  22. The Rocks should build a lead just like last week...they now know what it's like to blow said lead, so I think they will go the other route and win by 25.
  23. T vs. Elder X vs. X Dayton (school that played T a couple of years ago) vs Moeller All at Paul Brown Stadium a Catholic triple-header that chould draw a total of 30,000 (?)
