  1. Switzerland County (Indiana) beat Henry County and Carroll County beat Taylor County on the final day of the tourney.
  2. My dark horse is Oldham. They have 4 seniors returning plus Mcmurtry. Heard they also got a transfer in from out of state. Add all of this to a young, hard working new coach and I think they will surprise some people this year. Should be fun to watch the 8th this year.
  3. Oldham County is looking. Finished season with interim coach. Job posted about 2 weeks ago.
  4. Congrats Ashley. She has worked hard and this is a great accomplishment to do in high school basketball and as a soph is just exceptional. Looking forward to watching her for the next couple of years. Good luck Ash!
  5. Glad to see that a couple kids other than those from Louisville, Lexington and Northern KY get invited!! Congrats to all!!
  6. Congrats to all of the players that made the team. I am just wondering how KY's best 12 players come from only 7 schools? That just sounds odd to me. I know some didn't try out and they are wanting some type of "TEAM" but this is an all star game. Put the best 5 players in their respective positions and let's compete!!
  7. One of the best opening round games that I think we will see this year. Great game. Gain is the real deal. This game came down to a last second shot to tie.
  8. It was live with the girls sweet 16 this year. Hopefully they will do the same with the boys. It was great coverage!!
  9. Not that it is the point of the thread but I will address your questions. You are right, from the outside looks a whole lot greener, right? lol Oldham County had a revenue 64 million dollars last year. I think having one nice turf field (that you have to pay to play on) is not showing that much support. With a budget like that there should be a lot more money instead of the tokens that are thrown out just to look good to the outside. As far as 2 gyms at each high school, the 2 at OCHS are HORRIBLE!! My kids use both of these facilities and while they did a great "make over" on the main gym by painting and re-polishing the floor, there are more dead spots on that floor than there are holes in swiss cheese. Why not spend a little more money and really fix the floor instead of covering it up? Yes, they are moving toward baseball and softball programs in the middle schools, do you think that is bc of the board? That's funny. I know of 2 of the teams that were started and it was the parents not the board. They had to jump thru a lot of hoops just to get those started and there wasn't a lot of support from the board. I have been here for 6 years, moved here for work and 2nd year that they haven't let out when the team is playing in the Sweet 16. Which is the point of the thread. OC plays at noon on Wednesday and my kids who have watched a lot of games both girls and boys this year will get an unexcused absence because they are in elementrary school and going to watch their high school play in the sweet 16.
  10. Old Guy, I agree if the game is at 8:00. But for the kids that have teams that play at noon (OC) they should not be penalized for showing school spirit and going down to support their team. We are going and taking our elementary school kids with us from Wed thru Sun and will just have to be unexcused. I think that it is ridiculous. I have said since I moved to this county that there is no emphasis on athletics here, just another example to prove my point. I'm sure I will get the response, that our academics are so good and that is where the focus is and yes, for the most part they are but there is a happy medium and the Oldham County Board of Education has yet to find it. I think that it is a shame that they show such a lack of support for their student athletes.
  11. Just trying to get an idea of how many schools call off school or give an excused absence to students wanting to watch their school playing in the Sweet 16. I know that Oldham County does not close school and does not count it as an excused absence unless you ride the pep bus. The feeder schools are all unexcused. I think it is just absolutely ridiculous.
  12. I love the format that we have right now!! Lose and go home, win and advance. There is no other state that does high school basketball like Kentucky and although the 16 best teams aren't represented, I still look forward to going to Rupp in March and catching "the greatest show in hoops".
  13. Very surprised since this win only makes their record 13-17. The worst record of any team to ever to make the Sweet 16.
  14. Dillan Henderson has 6 3 point shots in the game. The OC Colonels are up 17 with around 6 min left.
  15. IMO, Sydney is an incredible player. I was one of the ones that really thought that Boone had a chance to win it all. She is a fun player to watch. She can take over a game any time that she wants. I know that a lot of people were expecting her to do just that and when she didn't people want to know why but let's remember she is still a kid. Although she is talented at the end of the day she is still a kid. Congrats to NCC. Good luck at Diddle.
  16. I agree. You have to adjust. Just like when you play outside your region in the regular season, just like if you make it to Rupp. Trust me, you know if they are going to be ticky tacky in the first 2 minutes. Just adjust, like Blue fan said earlier, the good players and good teams can adjust.
  17. No, its Tommy McKenzie. He played on the 2000 team that went to state from JC.
  18. He doesn't play for Coach Wells yet, he will play for him in college. Sorry if my post was a little confusing.
  19. I agree. When I first sat down I texted someone to see what size of school that SK was and was astonished to know it was a 6 A school. Hard to believe with that kind of crowd. It was a hard fought game on both sides. OC got in foul trouble in the first half as 4 of the starters were on the bench toward the end of the 2nd quarter. They came out on an 8-0 run to start the 3rd but SK battled back. I really like the big guy, Junior, from SK. He came off the bench and played very well.
  20. Hobo is about 6'2" and is shooting over 50% from the field (both 2 and 3 point shots combined) and he is shooting 80% from the line. Last night in their first regional game he had 42 and was 6 for 8 from the 3 point range. This kid is a lot of fun to watch and to top it off he is a great kid off the court as well. Unfortunately, as CC said, he is all PCC has. He has already signed to play for Pikeville College who is ranked in the top 25 in the NAIA right now. Kelly Wells, former state champion coach from Mason County is the coach there and doing a great job. I would love it if Hobo made it to Rupp so the rest of the state could watch the leading scorer do his thing. Last night, the favorite in the 15th (Johnson Central) was knocked out by reigning state champion, Shelby Valley. Pike Central will meet Shelby Valley in the semi-finals on Monday. Earlier in the year PCC beat Shelby Valley by 22, not that it means anything because it is March Madness.
  21. This year the 15th is down but they do have the leading scorer in the state. Hobo McCoy is averaging more than 40 points a game and shooting over 50% from the field. He plays for Pike County Central. They may not make a run at the state title but he is a very fun player to watch. Johnson Central, Betsy Layne and Pikeville High are the top 3 teams in the region. (2 of the 3 are single A schools).
  22. I'm a little confused. Is the winner or 8th region POY a junior or senior. I thought you had to be a senior to be POY be wise you get an auto tryout for the KY IN All Stars. Maybe there are 2 different awards.
