  1. Is there any video available of the last play? I was told that Biggs chased the officials off the floor.
  2. Is it the Trusty's Goldie that you are trying to get a hold of? I got one from him and he is OK. No calls can get through. Channel 13 out of Huntington says that there will be a major report out of WL tomorrow, but they just cant confirm right now.
  3. I believe the primary source was from his blog, on his website. This is simply ludicrous. Interesting that it comes from a fellow that defends or chases ambulances of people who supposedly have been wronged, yet he defames two men in a public forum.
  4. In my opinion, the better team won. A few things occurred that led to Holmes's downfall. In the first quarter Holmes had a chance to jump on Boone, because Boone was uncharacteristically sloppy and making unforced errors. If Holmes could have converted some short shots they may have been able to build a cushion. Their zone was causing problems in the early going and were able to keep McQueary quiet, but not for long. Early in the 3rd quarter, Boone went on a little run that got them up close to ten points. Once it got that lead, they spread the floor and ran their stuff. Boone had the better guards in this game. They took care of the ball and didn't force shots. Holmes on the flip side took some very poor shots in that little run that Boone had to get to the front. Boone had great spacing and played very heady and smart with the lead. Palmer didn't play as well as he had going into the tournament and their offense bogged down, too much with the dribble and struggled to get open looks. Coston didn't score until the 4th quarter and Rice didn't get a bunch of shots in the second half. Best of luck to Boone the rest of the way. As for Holmes, it was a pretty solid year in which they just didn't have enough consistent offensive firepower. Coach Booher did a really nice job with this team and had to cover weaknesses and improvise at times. They didn't finish the year with the personnel that they started with and many youngsters gained valuable experience. From what I have been told they have some solid personnel coming up from the ranks to join, a solid nucleus of players. Their 8th grade team won the KBA State Tournament a couple weeks back, plus they have some freshman and sophomores who if they continue to work will provide some depth for next year. Hats off to Dontel Rice who had a really solid two years. I think the kid has a really bright future, if he continues to improve as he did these last two years.
  5. Congratulations to Cooper on the huge win. From the get-go Cooper had a lot of pep in their step and got after it. They always seemed like they were in control throughout the game. Even when Dixie made their run, they kept their poise and stuck some big baskets. Huge series of threes by Collins gave them the cushion that they needed. I also thought once Dixie fell behind they tried to make it up all at once and started to panic. The big kid went to work with Stansbury on the bench. NCC will be an interesting test for Cooper.
  6. Upset brewing. Cooper 37-29 over Dixie at the end of three.
  7. The Big East schedule was very favorable to them. They beat Villanova 2x, Providence 2x, Pitt 2x, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John's and DePaul prior to winning today. Losses to UConn by 3, Notre Dame by 11, Marquette by 20, Georgetown by 30 and the Cuse by 8. Non conference they were pounded by Kansas and VCU by 20+ and have a double digit loss to Auburn. Average team that has benefited from a weak Big East schedule.
  8. I believe SK can get by Gallatin County, but then will face either South Oldham or Collins. Collins is interesting because they have benefited from a couple of transfers from Michigan mid-season. I feel that Oldham will emerge from the bottom of the bracket setting up a SK/OC final.
  9. Is Lloyd set up for a Cinderella run to the finals? Holmes and Boone again in the regional? We haven't seen this before. Cooper is welcomed to the region with a first round encounter with defending champ and favorite. NCC and CCH should be a good one. Should be a fun week at The Vault.
  10. Ugly game. USF is not very good. They do have some size and length and had hands up on shooters.
  11. No brainer, he needs to go. No sense in risking injury especially with how hard he plays.
  12. I thought Vandy played very well yesterday. Depending on the draw, I think they can win a game or two, but history says they may have a clunker. They are senior laden, have a first round center, solid wing in Taylor and a kid who can carry an offense. Can/Will they play defense? Good win for the Cats. I liked how Teague settled down and played solidly for the rest of the game after a shaky start. he did take a couple of tough shots on drives when they were in control.
  13. The 29th District is one of the toughest in the state with Oldham, South Oldham and North Oldham. Oldham gets the win and will face South for the district title.
  14. This upset is up there with the Bryan Station victory over Clay. Barbourville was the All A rep from the 13th and played Holy Cross fairly tightly in the All A tourney. Pineville went 5-14 in 13th Region play and Barbourville beat Pineville by 15 earlier this year.
  15. Didn't Holmes struggle with Beechwood last year in the opening round of the district? Got to give credit to Coach Miller and his staff. They couldn't have executed their gameplan any better in the first half. Spread the floor, hit some open shots, pack in their defense and force Holmes to settle for jumpshots. When Holmes scored they were able to get their press on and that really bothered Beechwood and if it were broken Beechwood took some quick shots relinquishing tempo. Cruse is a nice player and actually the other big for Beechwood is not bad. They played hard and hung around longer than most thought they would.
  16. This should be an entertaining game. Will CCH play zone or man? Bolden had his coming out party last week at Pendleton Co, when he went off in the 4th quarter. Will Holmes rely on the jump shot or try taking the ball to the hole?
  17. The assistants for Brossart should take the blame in my opinion. On a regular basis you will see an assistant confer with the scorers table asking about how many timeouts one has, when one is taken by a team. Often times they will check to see how many the other team has, especially late. Total breakdown in coaching. Brossart seemingly started the year playing pretty well but seemingly lost their mojo the last quarter of the season.
  18. I didn't think that there was anything glaring in regards to coaching that stood out. This was a really fun game to watch. Players were stepping up left to right making big plays. I thought HC was trying to get CCH scrambled a little more in the halfcourt with some trapping man as well as some diamond and one, but many times they would leave someone open. I don't see a high major level for this kid at this stage. He is a skilled kid but I try to envision what he would do with players of comparable size. I see him struggling, in part that he doesn't have that explosion to his game. He still needs some work with his post up game. As much as many complained from the stands regarding officiating, I think CCH was able to get away with a lot of use of the hands on him in the post. Campbell seems to post one way and doesn't repost to get open. He also tries to do too much with one hand. However, to his credit he does have some skills that he will be able to build upon. Nice touch and does a great job of blocking shots without fouling. They did a nice job of limiting his looks and I thought CCH was able to get away with using their hands on his back in the post. In the games I have seen Campbell, most of his threes come from the key area and CCH covered that well. Bingo! I bet Ruthsatz about had an attack when Frederick launched a three up two with HC trying to foul, in first OT, I believe. HC has a really nice team but will struggle against teams that have multiple ball handlers. They are not very strong in the halfcourt on defense, in my opinion. They try to make things chaotic but if you can handle the ball through a couple of traps you will get open looks. I also thought HC got tight and a little gun shy when the game got late. That is the first time I have seen Dan Henry officiate a high school game in forever. Has he been officiating all year or was he called into duty because of them playing at NKU? I believe Dan was an OVC official in his younger days. Rob Lohr is simply a bad official. Really bad. Credit HC for a great year. They have overcome some turmoil and far exceeded their expectations, I would think.
  19. From what I was told Holmes could not have played any worse in the first half and early into the second half. They could not make a shot from outside or inside the arc, and PC packed in their zone in an attempt to contain Rice. Heard good things about Pendleton's point guard, Monroe I think it the name. Good to see the Bulldogs roar back to win it.
  20. Moore was at Holmes around 1975-76. Later coached some good club teams at the NKCC.
  21. I played against Jacobs in high school. He was a freak to do the things he could size wise. His throwing motion was a little funky, but he could rake. He once hit the Newport Gymnasium with a home run to right field. Some of the old timers may remember Mike Moore from Holmes in the mid 70's.
  22. Big thing for me was Zeller had his hands down. Instinct is one thing in regards to proximity but get your hands up. I didn't get to see much of the first half, but UNC continually went under ball screens against a three point shooting team. As much of the world makes over Kendall Marshall as a point guard, he is a serious liability on defense. That is where UNC misses Strickland. Strickland was easily UNC's best defender and gave them some semblance of toughness. Credit Duke for making the run. They hit some big shots and the biggest one when it counted. I thought UNC continued to play too fast with the lead and didn't run enough offense to get good shots late. I mean Barnes could have been posting Rivers in the post or some iso for him, but they played too fast late instead of grinding it. Fine game to watch.
