To the contrary. YOu could easily discuss classing baseball and/or softball, which take 9/10 to field a team at once, before basketball with 5. It just depends on the true impact of numbers.

The biggest thing you would have to address is what to do with the "extra week" of the schools in the smaller classes. With less teams, they don't need five weeks for playoffs. Do you give them an extra game (which takes a vote of the schools)? If you don't, how do you justify them losing a gate in postseason compared to the rest of the state. The devil is in the details, especially on something like this one.

They probably are. But the basketball games were all on http://www.khsaa.net so I would imagine they would have the baseball games on there as well.

If you look in KHSAA Bylaw 33 on their web site, it states that there is a fine and it is a violation of that rule to tape a contest you are not involved in WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE SCHOOLS. So you could always do it above board by asking the schools involved and getting their permission, much like a TV game. Otherwise, it is a violation of the Sportsmanship Rule and clearly covered in their fine schedule.

And the overtime change is what Kentucky used this past year, so there will be no real changes for Kentucky coaches other than 10 pounds on the heavy, and probably, an earlier certification date.

The Committee, according to members, was told that the rotation could/should not include the possibility of the Mayfield / Lawrence County fiasco of a few years ago, and the center of the state was the issue. Yes, the coaches advisory committee note did state that clearly, one of the members showed it to me. The member institutions are notified, and will be more so. We have already been told that this issue will be a focal point of the summer coaches conference. As for Harp and Haywood, they may have a bit of selective amnesia. I have been in meetings on the committee before when the committee voted to try and seek some form of rotation, and now that they get it, they have bad memories. Other coaches havne't been head coaches in the business long enough to complain about it, he is just being sir echo. When he has Harp's tenure, Haywood's tenure, or even McGlone's, let him complain. For those schools out in the state, this rotation (quit calling it a blind draw, all that did was establish year one) gives a fresh look at who they will play and allows some teams lots of opportunities they may not have had. Now if they will just approve that six class alignment. It is a constant source of amazement that people clamor fo change, get change, and dislike change. As for the public being informed, such was done that day according to their web site. Leatherneck has it right though, "faster than speeding bullet" has been replaced by "faster than it can get posted on BGP" as a symbol of speed.

This is misleading. They will only be one school according to KDE, even though classes will be in more than one building. That's a big difference than people believing that they are two schools with a "combined" athletic program.

The one thing all of you fail to acknowledge is that you can't control where schools are built. It's like the assinine argument about Corbin being in the West. Trouble is, there aren't very many teams in the West in the current AA, so sometimes, teams end up in different areas. Look at 3A. To use the East West system purely, how could you have Boyle in the West, but Danville in A East? That's why it can't be East West. Face it, we live in a state that is not a pure rectangle, and its schools are not evenly disputed. So everyone will be able to find fault with some geographic issue, when in fact, you just need to keep one thing in mind. It takes two games to win a district title, 3 to win a region, and 5 to win a state. It doesn't really matter what order in which the games are played. So everyone will favor, in most cases, what helps their particular situation.

In all honesty, it is (as most competition is) mind over matter. The surface has nothing "physically" to do with it, but that it may have something "mentally" to do with it. In all truth, we both know it will have less impact at the state meet where the best jumpers in the state have made it, than at any invitational or allcomers meet.

No but if a certified teacher is applying and qualified according to the job announcement, they likely made a mistake back then. The non-teacher is to be hired when no qualified teacher exists according to the job announcement.

Two different rules with different purposes. Don't try to confuscate the issue. If you don't repeat and you progress normally through school, you can "play up" and play one year in each grade. BUT, if you repeat one, it's an issue. It's a trade off. You get to play early but you must continue to make normal progress. Btw, 6-12 would be 7 years varsity, but math isn't everyone's strength, nor is logic.

State's top jumper in 3A went a personal best of 6'8 on the high jump couple of weeks ago. It makes no difference. And no, the meet won't move. Having been involved with managing a region, I cannot imagine trying to manage the state. I would have to believe they are way too far down the road on details to consider moving now.

And though the root of this thread and its resultant fees to KHSAA has never been proposed by them (as I recall), would you care to tell them how much of a percentage of the gates go to the OHSAA during their playoffs? How about all of it after certain allowable expenses and a cut of the gate. I think we at Kentucky schools have it pretty good and don't see it changing in the near future.

ALways the voice of wisdom. As I read through last night's posts, I wondered if someone would actually read the entire thing. "Rotation" means that it will change regularly. No matter what year the rotation had those two districts playing, the same hue and cry would be created. So for the other years, you never know. As you say, by my read, the Board is still looking at alignment options with no final decision. Seems like it would have been foolish to do much more on a rotation until you knew the alignment, so the first year is all that's out there. In the end, a rotation allows someone different to play those third and fourth round games, and should add to the excitement and variety of the playoffs. And your point on the first two rounds is right on time. As it is now, those have been terrible gates and sometimes terrible games. While some of the gamse may still be terrible, at least now they can be between rivals who haven't had to spend as much on travel, and can accumulate proceeds to help with other sports.

In trying to schedule around graduations and commitments for school facilities, sometimes, you just don't have any choice.

Don't let paranoia destroya. Why would you not just play the fourth round at the highest seed left in the game just like you do the third round now? It could work. If they are the same, KHSAA has some language on odd vs. even that you be used. The Board has been looking at things to CHANGE the playoff system. Whether it is number of classes, bracketing, changing things up, etc. The complaints they talked about publicly were all about the status quo, and now we want to object to the change? i would think that as much as they have talked about their football system lately, that just getting some change passed was important.

I think it is actually a great question. BUT there is a precedent. The 1975 AA champions were the consolidation of Scott County and Georgetown. But that final action happened AFTER alignments were adopted (as I remember) and schedules were made. So they were a AAA enrollment school playing AA. Next chance for realignment, they were moved. I suspect the same thing is happening here. They will no doubt move up with the final product.

How in the world could it have gone to EKU? That place really shouldn't hold a region and is satisfactory only because a couple of very good, enthusiastic high school coaches in Richmond keep it running (no pun intended)? And how many high school coaches have specialist coaches dealing with their field events so they could be separated from them at U of L? Right now, unlike any other sport except probably swimming, there are no good alternatives that meet ALL of the needs and wants of the high school community. So you minimize the damage for the meet that it less than a month away and is bigger than any meet any high school ever holds (or college in this state), and you work on an even better site for 13 months from now. Will that work?

From what the news accounts said, no one had any warning. As woody points out, who 1) thought UK baseball would have this kind of year or 2) would have been able to wait until late May to move a meet of this size? I am just glad we got three weeks notice. Dunbar has an invite, and Tates Creek has invited people to their track meet (which has same infield surface).

Normally, I agree with your thoughts and posts on track Ltrack. But you couldn't be further off on this one. U of L is simply not an option. 1) field event venues and the number of teams whose coaches coach both field and track events that might be going on simultaneous; and 2) the parking is horrendous. There is just no other way to put it. WKU is not an option now as their field event venues are even more remote and involve crossing a US Highway. At least the Dunbar location gives people who already have housing, etc. (and a great many do) the chance to not change their plans. The newest, latest and greatest facility is about the be started in Bowling green which will be the "end all" for track, if the original plans don't get changed. Or maybe, UK will finally build a new one, or U of L will move I-65. Something tells me that the people who plans these events could care less who is "home" and who is not, as far as competition.

Where did you hear that fast don't have to play 10? I was told that to play postseason, everybody had to play 10. Of course the problem would be solved if those few remaining slow pitch schools would go by state law and play fast pitch.

Were they irgnored on the tryout list or just on the selected list? The selections were made by coaches from all over the state who are tired of being beaten and listening to their peers talk about Indiana. Looks like they figured the best way to compete with an Oden dominated inside was with quickness and shooting.

And with a charge of $2 per ticket being assessed on every event at the new arena in Louisville, watch it stay at Rupp for another 20 years. Last I checked, the KHSAA makes a lion's share of its $$$ on boys basketball, and Rupp is expensive, the new place would be even more.

sounds like somebody gets to move districts to fill it out. Or a first round bye. You either allow schools to play up for geographic reasons, and therefore, accept the fallout, or you don't allow it.
