Pendleton County vs. Hopkinsville

Featured Replies

I heard threw the grapevine that Hoptown and Pendleton County have agreed to play each other on Sept.22 at Hopkinsville. Don't know much about Pendleton County can anybody tell us about their program? Hoptown tried to schedule Danville and it look like it might happen but N.Oldham wanted a buy week before their district play and would not change dates.

Who's responsible for bringing the body bags??

I think it will be wiser to have gotten Alcoa's buyout money from Trigg County and play nine games...

I am with Scribe, this is a bad fit for everyone involved.

Hoptown starts the season with Male followed by Mayfield then they play Tennessee 5A semi-finialst Memphis Ridgeway who are said to be one of the early favorites to win it all this year. Northern Kentucky teams are known for their physical style of football. Nobody wants to play only 9 games. I have to give Pendleton credit. They say they want to know where their program is at and this will be a good indication. This will only make them a better team. Hoptown did not want buy week before they play cross-town rivial Christian County. There are just not many options left on the table at this time of the year.

I just got corrected, game date will be on Sept 23 (Saturday) somewhere around 3:00.

Northern Kentucky Teams are known for their physical style of Football. You indeed are correct, but those NKy teams are from Boone, Campbell, and Kenton Counties......Pendleton County isn't even close to being a team that could compete with any of the Northern Kentucky better teams in A, AA, AAA, AAAA much less the poor ones even in A (and I am not at all knocking the poorer single A school, but PC couldn't even beat them)... Why in the heck would a team as good as Hoptown, play such a poor opponent not in their District? Are you telling us this is the best Hoptown could come up with? And before I get roasted by a PC fan, my Sister-in-laws kids go to PC, and my brother-in-law thinks the football team has a long...long...long way to go to before they could compete against any high school in Boone, Campbell or Kenton Counties too.

Kudos to Pendleton Co.!!! This is a great game for all involved, this will give Pendleton a chance to see a program in 3A that has made the competitive jump they are trying to make, and for Hopkinsville, this will be a chance to get some younger guys varsity competition and allow them to work out early season kinks, all the while trying some new things they otherwise wouldn't be able to do.

Is this a misprint????? Why would Pendleton drive all the way Hoptown to get anihilated.......Makes no sense to me at all????????????

Because their bowl-game opponent, a defending Tennessee state champion, dropped out of the bowl two months before the game was to be played. Hopkinsville has been scrambling to find an opponent. The Tigers would have played Danville, but Danville couldn't get North Oldham to shift their game to another date.

Given the circumstances and the timing, it appears so.

Wow. This will not be good matchup.

Not a good matchup for either team, but desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose. Pendleton has only had team for about 4 years haven't they?

Hoptown was in a no win situation. They didn't want to only play 9 games. They couldn't find another opponent in the Southeast, Texas, or Missouri areas. Pendleton Co. got in touch with the Tigers and the deal gets worked out. Now since it's not a higher profile program some outsiders to the Tiger program want to question the game. Hoptown went as far as calling Alcoa and telling Alcoa that Hoptown would drive to Knoxville to play them and not ask for a return date next season but Alcoa said no thanks.

Hoptown's Schedule:

1) Male

2) @ Mayfield

3) Ridgeway, TN

4) Pendleton Co.

5) Christian Co.

6-10) District Games

With good experience returning, tallent, and a successful offseason weight program the Tigers are looking forward to the season and the challenges it brings.

I think PC has to start playing good teams sooner or later. If they are going to be in a region with Highlands and CovCath then they need to start preping themselves and younger players on the types of competition they play each year. I think it will be a good yardstick as to where they want to be, they won't get better or learn things playing Class A cupcakes year in and year out. I am concerned at how good Hop town is against PC's inexperience, but I think other than a little embarassment they will end up alright.

This will benefit both teams. Hoptown can now be looked at as absolute monsters who chop up, chew, and spit out their opponents. Pendelton can reclaim their spunk as a basketball only school because their football team will no longer exist. Who did this and why? It could be an upset though. Didn't PC beat someone like 97-0 a few years ago?

Say what?
