Pendleton County vs. Hopkinsville

Featured Replies

I can't fault Hopkinsville here. They were put in an extreme situation. I had heard a team from Alabama might make the trip to play in the Inetgra Bowl but I guess than didn't work out. It will give the Pendleton County fans a chance to see one of the best high school facilities in the state.

Hopkinsville had a difficult time filling their schedule prior to the Alcoa insident. Booker T. Washington didn't want to play Hoptown again this year even though it would have taken place in Memphis. It took the Tigers a while to get something worked out with another team. Ridgeway from Memphis wanted to participate in a bowl at Hopkinsville but the kinks couldn't get worked out. Then Ridgeway manuevaurd their schedule a bit that would alow them to play at Hoptown towards the middle of the season. Then Alcoa backs out and Hoptown was left searching high and low for an opponent but this time didn't have the preferred time. Hoptown talked with programs all over the Southeast, Texas, and Missouri trying to find a game. Pendleton called resulting in the problem being solved.

This will benefit both teams. Hoptown can now be looked at as absolute monsters who chop up, chew, and spit out their opponents. Pendelton can reclaim their spunk as a basketball only school because their football team will no longer exist. Who did this and why? It could be an upset though. Didn't PC beat someone like 97-0 a few years ago?

Pendleton County 97, Letcher 0

I am confused by the "football team will no longer exist" comment.

Thanks for a conformation on the score. Just a little sarcasm on the comment.

I think PC has to start playing good teams sooner or later. If they are going to be in a region with Highlands and CovCath then they need to start preping themselves and younger players on the types of competition they play each year. I think it will be a good yardstick as to where they want to be, they won't get better or learn things playing Class A cupcakes year in and year out. I am concerned at how good Hop town is against PC's inexperience, but I think other than a little embarassment they will end up alright.

After the change in classification takes place PC will not be in a region with HHS or Covcath. PC was smart not start district play until these changes took place. If PC is serious about their football program they do need to start challenging themselves by playing good teams like Hoptown. They will learn a lot by playing that game.

If BGHS didn't have two bowl games and two local games (Warren Central and Greenwood) to start the season and take up the non-district portion of the schedule, they'd have a similar problem filling in the schedule. So I can definitely understand Hoptown's predicament. If Pendleton Co is serious about maintaining a football program and having it play at least competitive ball someday, they better take real good notes on this one!

The folks who do come down to Hoptown to see the game are gonna LOVE the Stadium of Champions!:D

I heard threw the grapevine that Hoptown and Pendleton County have agreed to play each other on Sept.22 at Hopkinsville. Don't know much about Pendleton County can anybody tell us about their program? Hoptown tried to schedule Danville and it look like it might happen but N.Oldham wanted a buy week before their district play and would not change dates.

What happened to the possible date with the Alabama school at the bowl game?

Trigg County had been trying to find a team to take Alcoa's place at the Integra Bowl, but had been unsuccessful. It sounds like Hopkinsville went on and took a game instead of taking the chance that Trigg may find an opponent in the next couple of weeks.
