State High School Track Meet

Featured Replies

I have just learned that the State High School Track meet for Kentucky has been moved to Paul Dunbar high School in Lexington instead of the usual U.K. track complex due to the U.K. baseball team may be hosting a regional. Can anyone tell me what kind of facility they have - tracksurface, etc. and if parking would be a problem. Is there decent handi cap parking and acsess? Any help would be appreciated. If this post should be somewhere else, could a mod please move it. I couldn't find a track forum like there used to be on bgp. Thank you.

The track is an 8-lane rubber track. The high jump will be on the football field, which means you are jumping off the turf. Very nice complex. Parking is better than UK's parking (at least closer). Not sure about the handicapped situation, but they may let handicappers park in the lot with the buses.

Thanks a lot :thumb:

They have a great setup...Lots of parking, easy to get to...:thumb:

Looks like with two straight losses in the SEC tourney, the BatCats may not host a regional after all!

I agree and hope that we are wrong. Imo it will depend on how other conference tourney's go / if anyone else that may be ranked high may get knocked out early.

Is there any way that the meet could be switched back.. or is it way to late?

My guess is that it's way too late.

Like I said on another thread, my only gripe with Dunbar's facility is the high jump venue.

State's top jumper in 3A went a personal best of 6'8 on the high jump couple of weeks ago. It makes no difference.

And no, the meet won't move. Having been involved with managing a region, I cannot imagine trying to manage the state. I would have to believe they are way too far down the road on details to consider moving now.

State's top jumper in AA was 6" under his personal best. Also the results of that same meet show 14 jumpers cleared minimum height and 17 did not. Very unusual to see more NHs than not. My point is that there are very few jumpers who routinely practice jumping off astroturf.

In all honesty, it is (as most competition is) mind over matter. The surface has nothing "physically" to do with it, but that it may have something "mentally" to do with it. In all truth, we both know it will have less impact at the state meet where the best jumpers in the state have made it, than at any invitational or allcomers meet.

Actually it does have something to do with the surface as well. I have a jumper that jumped at TC and he complained that due to the depth and softness he was dragging his toe, something that he doesn't normally do on rubber. Still cleared 6' and should have got 6'2". Now more focus is going to have to be on getting the knees up on the approach. But this could just be my jumper. Who knows, they're all head cases!

Id also bet that the Trinity Jumper does some work on their new turf football field. They have it so it makes sense to use it. Trinity doesnt have a Track facility so he has to do his HJ work somewhere
