I was told by a former BOC member today that there has been some chatter about another "slight" change as the KHSAA called it to the playoff format.

 

He says when the change is made to five or six classes - which will happen - the KHSAA is likely to put in a restriction where half of the gate receipts from the third and fourth round games go back to the KHSAA? Might just be him talking but I thought about that when all this came down yesterday.

 

Other states have done this for years (all playoff money if I am not mistaken) but to do it now would be pretty bad on the KHSAA's part. Kind of like holding a blind draw and rigging it.

No Taxation without representation! How can they tax the "people" when the the representation doesn't vote the way the people wanted them too? Sounds like a case for a modern day Boston Tea Party.

I sincerely doubt that it will happen. But it sure doesn't hurt to make sure the schools let their representatives on the BOC know that they don't want it to happen.

That is profit, after expenses are paid.

I don't think that is a fair analogy Chicks and I commend the BOC for standing up for equal treatment for the private schools.

With playoff schools keeping the monies that means the rich get richer - correct?

 

A stronger KHSAA could be a better more efficient KHSAA(more investigators) - right?

KHSAA could pay travel expenses and hosting expenses then take a cut if they want to make all schools stronger financially.

 

 

One point in comparison is that Ohio plays all playoff games at neutral sites.

Yes, five rounds, the first one is a home game, the next three are neutral, and the last one is neutral unless Canton McKinley or Massillon are playing in the D1 final on the right year (they alternate sites I believe).

And though the root of this thread and its resultant fees to KHSAA has never been proposed by them (as I recall), would you care to tell them how much of a percentage of the gates go to the OHSAA during their playoffs? How about all of it after certain allowable expenses and a cut of the gate. I think we at Kentucky schools have it pretty good and don't see it changing in the near future.

kissinger, I don't know the exact amount but I do remember it being something like the schools get 20% of presale and nothing at the gate. Again, I could be wrong about this but it goes way in the favor of the OHSAA. With all that said, if the KHSAA was only to take half of the money from the 3rd and 4th round games that would pale in comparison to what the OHSAA does.

Let me get this straight, you host a game at your stadium. Incur all the expenses. Then the KHSAA wants half the money? That sounds like fantasy on your buddy's part. This will never fly. As for neutral sites, that is a joke. That would drive attendance down the drain in all but a few cases. Not to mention it would be hard to get some "neutral" field to participate for nothing. Otherwise you would have yet another portion of the proceeds skimmed off. These guys made their bed, let them lay in it. There seemed to be little concern about lack of revenue in the finals when they cooked up this idea.
