After several tough losses the Titans finally get a win.

How big is the neutral zone. In this case the ball hit a lineman who was within 1 yard, 2 yards at the most from the line of scrimmage. Ball barely crossed the line of scrimmage.

-Team is punting. -Punt is partially blocked. -The ball goes forward, crosses the line of scrimmage, and hits one of the linemen from the return team. -Punting team falls on the ball. Who's ball is it? Don't know if it matters or not, but punting team fell on the ball short of the first down marker.

Sorry wasn't thinking clearly last night. Actually Marion scored their 3rd TD before Mercer got their safety. So it was 14-13 Marion. Marion scored with about 3:00 left in the third to make it 21-13. Mercer got a safety, making it 21-15 with about 11:00 left in the game. It was pretty much Marion from there.

Mercer was up 15-14 in the 3rd. Game was a lot closer than the score would show.

Mercer was the better team and gave the game away. Mercer coaches tried to sit on a 1 point lead and played not to lose instead of playing to win.

Is Hammonds a JR or SR this year. She should be getting some looks from some pretty good schools.

Highlands is the exception, not the rule. Can a smaller school play above their size? The answer is yes. Can a large school play below their size? The answer to that is also yes. Will a larger school beat a smaller school more often? Again the answer is yes.

Guard play is going to be an issue.

Fugate is a heck of a player. He's a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Haddix is also a good ball player. Breathitt executed well. When Fugate didn't have the ball, they did a very good of using him as a decoy to make the rest of the offense more effective. There were a couple of screen plays that were executed to perfection. Mercer is very young, but very game, they never quit, and they were a better team at the end of the game than they were when they walked on the field. If they can survive their schedule, they will be a pretty good team at the end of the season.

If this were game 10 and Mercer was well into their new system I would give them a pretty good shot. But it's not, it's game one against a talented well coached team that knows their system and executes well. Mercer will try to control the ball as much as possible, use the clock, and keep the Breathitt offense off the field as much as possible. Fugate will have to earn his yards. In the end I think it will be closer than a lot of folks anticipate, but Breathitt by 2 TDs is what I expect.

Dave Thomas has been hired by Mercer as a PE teacher and will join the Mercer football staff. Was announced yesterday at the 1st football meeting with new coach Mason. Do not know what responsibilities he will have.
