Remember, please be constructive. They need to definately handle the ball better than they did last year. It seemed at times last year that they didn't have any rhyme or reason to their offense. Taylor needs to play smarter and hustle more. Hopefully, the Cinnamon kid has gained some strength and maybe even have grown some over the Summer. The coaching needs to be of higher quality than it has for the past couple of years. IMO, they SHOULD:idunno: be a good quality team that is capable of winning the region. Will they win the region? Due to the question marks listed above I don't believe they will. My hope is that Cundiff gets his act together and that the players come together as a TEAM and put all of the crap of the past 3 years behind them. When this happens then Mercer will be a force to reckon with in the 12th!

Jamel Taylor mixed with Mercer's talented and seasoned class of juniors are, IMO, the number 3 team in the region after West Jessamine and McCreary. I could realistically see Mercer County winning the region. I believe they will be that good. Is Coach Tatum coaching with the girls team now? Who is taking his place?

Coach Cundiff took over during the merger so he was faced with not inheriting a roster of 5 starters and subs, but a roster of 10 starters and subs and a mixture of fans to be on the same team and root for players that they have hated before. Most coaches who take over during a merger are like coaches who take over for a legend or a new school, there to be fired in a year or two. Coach Cundiff is entering his fourth year now and has his program in place. After watching Mercer County this summer, I would say they are primed to make a run at the district and regional championships. I seen Mercer County beat a good Lafayette team on back to back nights at Woodford County as well as a good showing in the AAU State tournament with a depleted team. I know for a fact they beat Harlan County by 25 or 30 without taylor, honchel, and a couple others, Harlan County beat a full strength West Jessamine team in the first round of the AAU. Mercer County also had good showings this summer by beating Louisville Central and Graves County, again with a depleted roster as Cinnamon, Taylor, & honchel didn't play in those games either. If Mercer County can carry over their summer success to the fall and not have any outside distractions, they will be a top 4 team in the region with Wayne, McCreary & West, Mercer has the most talent, but chemistry and hard work must come together for the Titans .
Warrenville Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 The future is bright for Mercer County as well as they have a good group of 6th and 7th graders coming up led by a Davis kid as well as a Myers Kid I believe. Those are the two studs and next big names you will be hearing from Mercer County before 2015.
coachi Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Then if they dont challenge for the region, whose fault is it? All of Cundiff's staff bailed out before the train wreck, and some of his "studs" are saying they arent going to play. Doesnt sound like they are completely "primed" to make a run. Its been a circus since day one. Many other schools that consolodate win the region immediately, and they didnt have 10 starters returning. It didnt stop the football team from winning even though it was mixed up situation as everyone involved knows. They need to get out of the district and/or even beat Burgin every time before they start dreaming of regional championships.
Warrenville Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Beating Burgin everytime or never doesnt matter one bit because Burgin will not participate in a regional tournament game again in their history, because before to long it will be part of Mercer County Schools. "studs" aren't playing, they were all there in the summer some must be transferring to Burgin to play for Donny Bulldog then. Playing at Burgin is the place to go for a shot at a regional championship. Circus or not, the past is the past, we will see how the Titans do, I am not saying they will win the region or even get there, but they have the most dominant player in the region in the post and thats a start. They have a much better shot than Burgin does to get to the region.
coachi Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Hmmmm, I just mentioned Burgin as ONE of the schools they cant beat consistently and must have hit a nerve. I would sure hope the Titans have bigger fish to fry than beating them, although your post sounds a little defensive. Tell me where all the assistants went? Wouldnt they want a shot at the state tournament? Why havent the team beat East Jessamine in the district with the group that just graduated? Didnt they win the freshman region? Your "studs" might have been there this summer, but word is that one of them was waiting to see if Cundiff returned. You cant tell me that the team he inherited with H-burg players and Scotties wasnt loaded. LOADED. Taylor can sure play if he wants to, but I dont believe Cundiff can get him to want to. Maybe thats why he decided to go out for football. Mercer should have won the region 2 of the last 4 years, in my opinion.
Jessie Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 The 6th and 7th grade at Mercer is a good class. They are led by Sparrow (coach's son) in the 7th grade and Davis in the 6th grade.

Maybe should have won the region 2 of 3 years he has been there, but as my original post said, a lot of ups and down. Last year Coach Cundiff had the car accident or they may have very well won the region last year, I guarantee they would have made the regional tournament and wouldn't have lost a game to Burgin last year like they did. The other time you are referring to, I am sure is when there was an off court incident and Coach Cundiff decided to bench a player and not play him rather than play him for a win, he chose discipline in a kid's life over playing a kid for a win & not teaching him nothing. Also that year, their best player didn't play in the district tournament due to an illness. Bad luck for Mercer, and it may happen again this year who knows. You find me anywhere I guaranteed Mercer a district or regional championship? According to 2 of the players, all the basketball players have been coming to conditioning except the 3 playing football, but those 3 will be at basketball as soon as football season is over so your sources are wrong.

Myers was the best of the whole bunch, but now that I re-think it he probably left with his dad for Burgin. Greener pastures over there especially playing for the legend Donny Bulldog.

They weren't to loaded on that team, Harrodsburg did go 7-21 the year before the merger and Mercer County went 11-15. Not absolutely loaded, taking those two teams I would expect a .500 record for a new coach in their first year, believe Mercer County went 17-11 or something along those lines. I don't know who the Myers kids is.
sportsmaniac Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Is Will Hager any relation to Thomas Hager?
