PurplePride92 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Final. Tates Creek was beating Mercer County throughout most of this game. Mercer County came back to take the lead at 36-29. Tates Creek then scored but had the PAT blocked to make it 36-35 Mercer County. Tates Creek then recovered an onside kick and drove down and scored to make it 41-36. They didn't convert the 2 point conversion. Mercer County got the ball back but they turned it over on downs and Tates Creek then ran out the clock to preserve the victory. I listened to as much as I could on the radio. I missed some info here and there, but that is the gist of what happened. I know Mercer County showed a lot of heart by coming back to take the lead in a game that seemed like it was headed to a Tates Creek blowout. If I am not mistaken Isaiah Burris and Matthew Sims(both sophomores) returned int's for tds that cut the lead to 8 and then tied the game. Mercer County is young and it may cost them some this year, but when this group of sophomores are seniors, Mercer County will have a well seasoned team.

Dexter Banks up the middle on 3rd and 7 with less than 2 minutes in the game trailing by a touchdown with 64 yards to go to get to the end zone is way worse than anything the refs may have messed up.

It was more like 8 yards, but that games is over now. If the team played the first half with as much heart as thay played the second half, We would be talking about a blow out not a loss. Hats off to Dexter Banks he's a heck of a football player!

Dexter Banks is a great player and will be a stud at Mercer.
charlesw88 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Sounds like a great player. However, one player isn't going to win the game for you. These guys are young but should have won. The whole team needs to step it up. I'm cheering for them.
