I agree Tall Trees...I think that Bourbon needs to build their confidence...They have had a rough go at it the last few years and some of the kids might be discouraged...At the same time, they don't need to play against powderpuff teams either...They need teams that they can compete well with...The Rockcastle game will let them play against a great team, and gain some experience, but will the cons be too much for that one pro??

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the athletes students as well? Call the Office of Financial Aid and see what kind of aid is available. If you want to play at Morehead State, they will find ways to assist you...LEGALLY! They aren't going to throw cars at you and pay your cellphone bills...that would be ILLEGAL...but they will provide opportunities for you to earn money working as a work study, and not to mention the jobs that you can get on your own...Businesses in Morehead are flexible with hours for student-athletes...It may not be the most prestigious job in town, but if you want to play and get your education...there are plenty of options

Would it be logical for a school to hire a para-professional instead of a teacher/coach just to avoid creating a new job? This probem seems to be turning-up more and more...why would they look for a temporary solution? It doesn't make too much sense...anyone have any input?

If Blume does go to Morehead State...they will assist in finding grants as well as work-study's that will help financially...plus tuition isn't very high at all...For a program without scholarships, Coach Ballard does a phenomenal job and I can guarantee that Blume will get great training and have a chance to be that long-shot that makes it to the NFL via the small school. Go Eagles!!

I am curious as to what schools are still in the hunt for a new head coach, and how far along are they in the process to find one?

For a 2A school, Russell sure does bring quite the crowd...not only that, they come in RV's and cook for the kids after the game...They had a bigger crowd that most home teams did last year.

Only the ones mentioned previously. The coach that does get the job will be in a very good situation. Lewis Co. is very competitive, and despite their records lately...they come to play every friday night...it won't take very much at all to take this program to the next level...

Fatstacker, I'm in a similar situation, but I am a first year teacher and assistant coach...Before getting this job I had no coaching experience, but I did have knowledge of the game and a strong desire to be a head coach someday. I lucked out and have a great mentoring head coach to learn from. Coach J said most of the things in his previous post that I would say to you...all I can add is dedication and hard work DOES pay off...Learn as much as you can as often as you can. I hope to coach against you someday when we become head coaches...Good Luck and I wish you the best!

You have to give Bracken County a little more credit than that...I graduated from there in 2000, the next year they started a middle school team, then a JV team and now varsity. Sure they are getting beat pretty badly by their opponents, but you have to start somewhere. I think one thing that would help them is to schedule teams that are closer to their level of competition. Every program starts somewhere, and I'm sure some of the great programs today started out slow. You can't just start a program and then junk it just because you haven't had success yet...look at Lex Cath...they are a bigger school, yet when they started, their program struggled as well...This coaching position will be an opportunity for a coach to come in to a young program and put his mark on it...Bracken wants to win, and with the right personnel, they will.

To the players, coaches and fans of Russell...congrats on representing our district with pride and class...oh yeah, and bringing home the state championship. Our players were in your corner saturday and were pleased with the great game. Kasey Clark had a tremendous year and without him, it would have definitely been a different Russell. He may not be the best running back, but he has such a natural instinct, it's as if he sees the holes before they open up...his will and strength also got some much needed first downs in the championship game...Great Job Russell...truly an example of a great HS program!

Congrats to LexCath on a state championship...I just wonder why with a 42-7 lead in the middle of the third would you still be passing. Was it to pad Burke's stats? If that was the case, those 2 int's didn't help. The LexCath D had Bowling Green's number, a team that was taken out of their element early because of LexCath's quick scoring. Hats off to both teams, and good luck this off-season preparing for a return visit.

Speed and Strength are areas I think every team can improve upon...For us, we dressed out 30 to end the season with...In our case, Stamina is something we need to key on...When it gets into the 4th quarter, our boys need to feel like the game has just begun...I agree with each post on this thread. Each school has something different that they should KEY on, but we all have room for improvement...even state champions.

Sure there are going to be kids that will be distracted from receiving a letter from a college coach. At the same time, the coaches have taught kids to be disciplined and focused, therefore a letter that could be the ticket to higher education for a kid should be given to that kid or his/her parents. It would be wrong to potentially take away a chance at college for one of your players.
