What schools are still looking for a coach?

Featured Replies

I am curious as to what schools are still in the hunt for a new head coach, and how far along are they in the process to find one?

What about Betsy Lane, Lewis, Rowan...any news on these positions?

Bourbon Co is still open.

Nelson

North Oldham

Atherton

Have heard from some people around Jefferson Co. that there has not been a whole lot of response to Atherton's head coaching position. Most comments have centered around the notion that some coaches just dont seem to want put forth the impending rebuilding effort necessary to build this program up to the overall "appearance" of a lack of interest from the students.

If any of that is true, that is a shame. Such a nice campus and facilities.

And for the life of me, I cant figure out why North Oldham has not been filled yet. As long as this position has been open I would have thought this thing would have been filled a long time ago. Supposedly there is a lot of money that can be put into this program and the facilities are supposed to be really good (not to mention new).

Anyone have any ideas?

Atherton, for an established Head Coach, is a career risk. Yet, the best thing for this job is that there is absolutely NOWHERE to go but up. I truly think that if a guy went in and solely concentrated getting more kids out for 12-18 months and could win 3 possibly 4 games it could change the climate of that program and even the school dramatically. Then, he could begin to raise the expectations in the off-season, summer, and so on. There is a solid administration there and as stated great facilities. Moving down to AAA is a good thing, however Atherton is in a very competitive AAA district. I would say that the biggest negative with Atherton is its location, (the Highlands) is an area where many of the kids are enrolled in Catholic grade schools and high schools.

Atherton began preliminary interviews yesterday and will wrap them up today. They are planning on narrowing that group down and bringing back 2 to 3 guys and having more in depth meetings with each.

Best of luck to the Rebel program!

I've heard there were 12 applicants for the Atherton job.

I talked to one of the applicants who had a prelimenary interview yesterday.

Did Beechwood hire a Coach to replace Yeagle???

Yeah, one of the present assistants won the job. Noel Rash. He's been there a while and most people think that it was a great choice. Some were pulling for one of the other assistants who had also put in for it who was an excellent candidate as well. Doesn't seem as though much will change there. Other than Yeagle, I think the rest of the coaches stayed in place.

So exactly what happened to Rowan's coach? I thought they had one lined up already?

I thought so too...but now I'm hearing of a hiring committee being formed...any truth?

Ludlow is still in the process of looking for a new head coach.

Would it be logical for a school to hire a para-professional instead of a teacher/coach just to avoid creating a new job? This probem seems to be turning-up more and more...why would they look for a temporary solution? It doesn't make too much sense...anyone have any input?

I believe that most school systems policy requires the head coach of "major" sports to be a certified teacher. I do not know of many exceptions, there may be some...

You are right though, it just would not make sense for the temporary fix. Plus so many problems can arise with not having the head coach in the school on a daily basis, not to mention if that person was not a certified teacher.
