Just a few observations as I've attended different practice sessions around Louisville. I dropped over to St. X Tuesday to look in on stadium construction...WOW--this is truly gonna be a showpiece when it's ready! All of the county teams are being extremely careful in the heat. Lots of water, and even inside drills at several schools. Looks like good numbers for all the schools I've seen so far. Even the smaller schools seem to have decent sized rosters. STAY COOL!

You're right Guru--that was my initial proposal, but it won't work--I mean it WOULD work IF you could get the teams to commit, but you're correect when you say it won't happen. I think the Superclass plan has merit, but it needs to be refined greatly.

Just to refresh memories, I wanted to re-post this idea from several months ago---I think it's more viable than ever now, and makes a lot more sense than going to six divisions. "Just an idea I've kicked around. With all of the controversy about the public-private school proposed split, what about this? Create a Kentucky Super Conference for any school that wants to be part of it. No matter what size the school is, it could opt to compete in this division. It would essentially be a new 5A division, but not based on student population. Give it a State Title of it's own, and allow any school to compete. If a school wishes, it can compete in this division, BUT--it must commit to be there for a five year period. BTW--I think we would want to limit this to football, since that's where most of the controversy is. I can see schools like Trinity, St. X, Male, Highlands, Boyle County, Hopkinsville, Bowling Green, and a bunch more possibly entering this kind of thing. Obviously, there are a lot of details to iron out, but I think it could be a good option." Thoughts?

I've played High School ball, college ball, and covered countless games over 25-plus years in radio. This is--bar none--the most ridiculous rule I've ever heard of. Three words for Connecticut coaches--- LEARN TO TACKLE!

Tim has always been a class guy. He makes countless contributions to our Scoreboard Show. All I've ever had to do is call him, and he takes the time to send anything we ask for, and usually goes above and beyond. All of us here at KNN send our best to Tim, and his family. We look forward to working with him in the future, and our thoughts are with him now.

This week's KNN Scoreboard Show/Bluegrass Preps.com Player Of The Week is South Laurel's Ty Proffitt. Over two games in leading South Laurel to the 50th District championship, the 6-4 junior point guard scored 49 points and totalled eight rebounds, eight steals, eight assists and only two turnovers while leading a defense that forced 56 turnovers.

Word is tickets sales will be announced at least 3 months in advance, but I don't think they'll start selling them until they play this year's games.

(AP)--Louisville has beaten out Houston and Milwaukee for the right to play host to the McDonald's All-America high school basketball games next year. The games will be televised nationally on E-S-P-N in addition to the slam-dunk and three-point contests earlier in the week. McDonald's will choose 24 boys and 24 girls nationwide to participate in the games. The games will be played in late March at Freedom Hall. Its the first time the McDonalds contests have been played in Kentucky. Notable players in the class of 2007 include top prospect O.J. Mayo and Duke recruit Nolan Smith, son of the late University of Louisville player Derek Smith.

Our KNN Scoreboard Show/Bluegrass Preps dot com Player of the week is Middlesboro's Stuart Miller. Stuart hit five of seven threes in the first half of a win over Cumberland in the 52nd District at Cawood last Monday night. Miller, a 6-foot senior guard, finished with 32 points. Middlesboro lost to Bell County on Wednesday night, despite Miller's 31 points and seven threes. He finished the season with 173 threes, tops in state history and fifth best in the national record books. He had 475 in his career, the most in state history and fourth most nationally.

Actually the 10 free throws is counted as part of that too. It's a rare type of Triple, but it does count.

Our KNN Scoreboard/ Bluegrass Preps.com Player of the Week is Russell 6'1" Junior Guard Austin Blair--Playing only his 3rd game at point guard after an injury to the starter--he led Russell to a 73-68 victory at Elliot County on Tuesday. Blair had a rare triple/double scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds, and hitting 10/11 free throws. He was 8/15 from the field, 2/2 from 3 point range,with 3 assists and only 3 turnovers.

They ran this story at the end of the CBS Evening News last night too. GREAT story! They interviewed the kid afterwards, and he said he was, hotter than a pistol!" I really loved the reaction of the crowd and his teammates. They were SO into this thing! Carried him off the floor!

This week's KNN Scoreboard/Bluegrass Preps.com Player Of The Week is Fairdale's 5'7" Sophomore Cierra Ricketts. She had a quad double 11 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals, and 15 points--in a game against Louisville Holy Cross. She's already had a triple double this season and 8 double doubles. Cierra also recorded her 500th career rebound to go with 1600 career points in a Valentines Day game against PRP.

Our KNN Scoreboard Show/Bluegrass Preps dot com Player Of The Week is Bardstown's Brian Calhoun. Brian is a 6'0" senior guard. He led Bardstown to the All-A Classic title in Richmond, beating Owensboro Catholic 53-50, Bishop Brossart 63-60, Somerset 65-53, and Gallatin Co. 69-51. In the tournament, Calhoun scored 90 points (22.5 ppg), including 24 in the final. He shot 57% for the tournament, including 50% from 3-point land and 76% from the line. He also added 27 rebounds for the Tigers, and was their leader in assists and steals. He was the named the All-A Tournament MVP.

Our Bluegrass Preps dot com/KNN Scoreboard Show Player of the Week for last week is Wolfe's Cody Gilbert. He had a great All A week. He had three double doubles-- In the first game against Riverside Christian, he had 21 points and 10 rebounds in limited action. In the second round game against rival Hazard he had 22 points and 11 rebounds. Then in the semifinals he had another huge game. Finishing with 16 rebounds and a new career high of 46 points.

I was on the field, standing just to the right of the line of scrimmage. No doubt about it--they did not get the first down. In fact, I can say that the officials called a very good game overall. As a reporter--that's the most objective view I can give you.

Our Bluegrass Preps.com/KNN Scoreboard Show Player of the Week is Rose Hill's Kayla Faulkner. Kayla not only scored her 2,000th career point this past week against Woodford County, but she's averaged 28.4 points in 5 games since last Friday: Against Pike County Central - 25 points--Woodford County - 15 points (+2,000 career points)--Elliott County - 33 points--West Carter - 34 points-and against Ashland - 35 points.

Just to fill you all in--the young lady who passed away on Christmas Day was 15 year-old Judith Paige Johnson. She was the Granddaughter of former Kentucky First Lady Judy Patton. She's the daughter of her son from a previous marriage. She died at the home of another Grandmother in Pikeville. It has been confirmed by former Governor Paul Patton that she died of Bacterial Menningitis. He said the family was notified on Tuesday of the cause of death. Her funeral was Wednesday afternoon.

Our KNN Scoreboard Show/Bluegrass Preps.com Player of the week is--- Boyd County High School's Antonio Owens had 30 points and 10 assist vs Hoggard High School NC. He also scored 34 points and had 12 rebounds vs Corbin the next night. nights. Owens also had 53 pts in the finale of the three game tournament. He also had 10 rebounds vs Bob Jones,AL. Owens had a 3 game total of 117 pts.

This week, we have co-players of the week for the first time this season. Sam Diehl, the 6-1 185 pound Senior QB Newport Central Catholic was 13-24 for 256 passing yards and four touchdown passes. He also ran nine times for 61 yards and a score. Kasey Clark of Russell 36 carries for 195 yards 3 Rushing tds and 1 recieving td for 11 yards in the Big win over Owensboro Catholic. This also gave the 6'0 190 pound junior RB/SS 44 tds on the season and the school record for tds in a season. He acumulated 1,576 Rushing yards on the season.

Last week's Bluegrass Preps dot com/KNN Scoreboard Show Player Of the Week was Michael Vicars from Newport Central Catholic. The 6 foot 175 pound Running back had 28 carries and 220 yards rushing with 3 TD'S to help his team beat Somerset.
