BluegrassPreps.com and the Kentucky News Network are now working together to promote high school basketball in Kentucky.

 

We are currently taking nominations for the BGP/KNN player of the week! The player of the week can be from any team and is based on game performance from this weekend.

 

Please submit your nomination in this thread and provide as much back round/stats/information as possible from the game last week.

 

The winner will be announced on "The Saturday Morning High School Scoreboard Show" Hosted by Al Mayo. The show can be heard on all of these great stations:

Hey folks--it's been great using all the nominees week after week on the show, and we'll continue to use them for the foreseeable future. I wanted to remind you of a couple things. When you nominate a player, I need his height, weight, and class designation (Freshman, Sophomore, Etc). I also need the stats to be correct. Just telling me it looked like he scored a lot of points won't do it. Please include all pertinent numbers like points, assists, steals, shots blocked, number of dunks--you all understand what I need. Otherwise, I have to track these numbers down. Not that I mind doing the legwork, but I normally save this part of the show for last, so I can take nominees until the last possible hour, so I just don't have the time to look it all up. I'll usually pull the information from here by Thursday afternoon, so try to have your candidates nominated by about 2:00pm Thursdays. I couldn't be happier with the information you've all provided, and I'm looking forward to continuing our association with BGP!

KNN High School Scoreboard Show

Starting this week and for the rest of the basketball season if you nominate the winner (first) for the BluegrassPreps.com/Kentucky News Network Player of the week you will win a pink GoBGP t-shirt.

Robert Buckner of Eastern scored 29 points in Eastern's 68-66 win over St. Xavier in the semifinals of the Fifth/Third Bank Classic in Lexington. The 6-2 senior guard has scored 89 points in Eastern's four games in the 5/3 third week.

John Hardin senior guard Brandon Bland scored 63 points in three games and was JH's leading scorer in all three games as JH won the Nelson County Classic. Bland had 22 points as JH beat Nelson County 72-46 to win the title game.

Buckner's been pretty impressive.

 

I don't have numbers from this past week, but also considered should be AJ Slaughter of Shelby Co. He's been quite impressive.

Matt Fraliex, a 6-5 senior guard from Caldwell County, scored 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Caldwell County's 69-60 win over Bardstown in the Best of the Best Hoops Classic at Franklin-Simpson Thursday. In four games, Fraliex scored 94 points and had 22 rebounds as Caldwell County went 3-1. Fraliex also scored 29 points in a win over Pleasant Valley, Alabama in the same tournament.

Even though he won last week, Antonio Owens from Boyd Co scored 99 points in a 3 game tourney at Campbell Co

Matt Maynard had a great tournament in leading Belfry to the Mountain Schoolboy Classic Tournament Championship

 

Scored 23 in a 79-56 win over Heritage Academy

Scored 26 in a 65-48 win over East Ridge

Scored 46 in a 111-89 win over Sheldon Clark in the championship game.

 

Jamie Case also scored 24, 25 and 27 in the same 3 games.
