BluegrassPreps.com and the Kentucky News Network are now working together to promote high school basketball in Kentucky.

 

We are currently taking nominations for the BGP/KNN player of the week! The player of the week can be from any team and is based on game performance from this weekend.

 

Please submit your nomination in this thread and provide as much back round/stats/information as possible from the games last week. If you nominate the winner (first) for the BluegrassPreps.com/Kentucky News Network Player of the week you will win a pink GoBGP t-shirt.

Hey folks--it's been great using all the nominees week after week on the show, and we'll continue to use them for the foreseeable future. I wanted to remind you of a couple things. When you nominate a player, I need his height, weight, and class designation (Freshman, Sophomore, Etc). I also need the stats to be correct. Just telling me it looked like he scored a lot of points won't do it. Please include all pertinent numbers like points, assists, steals, shots blocked, number of dunks--you all understand what I need. Otherwise, I have to track these numbers down. Not that I mind doing the legwork, but I normally save this part of the show for last, so I can take nominees until the last possible hour, so I just don't have the time to look it all up. I'll usually pull the information from here by Thursday afternoon, so try to have your candidates nominated by about 2:00pm Thursdays. I couldn't be happier with the information you've all provided, and I'm looking forward to continuing our association with BGP!

KNN High School Scoreboard Show

Our Bluegrass Preps.com/KNN Scoreboard Show Player of the Week is Rose Hill's Kayla Faulkner. Kayla not only scored her 2,000th career point this past week against Woodford County, but she's averaged 28.4 points in 5 games since last Friday: Against Pike County Central - 25 points--Woodford County - 15 points (+2,000 career points)--Elliott County - 33 points--West Carter - 34 points-and against Ashland - 35 points.

Our Bluegrass Preps dot com/KNN Scoreboard Show Player of the Week for last week is Wolfe's Cody Gilbert. He had a great All A week. He had three double doubles-- In the first game against Riverside Christian, he had 21 points and 10 rebounds in limited action. In the second round game against rival Hazard he had 22 points and 11 rebounds. Then in the semifinals he had another huge game. Finishing with 16 rebounds and a new career high of 46 points.

Our KNN Scoreboard Show/Bluegrass Preps dot com Player Of The Week is Bardstown's Brian Calhoun. Brian is a 6'0" senior guard. He led Bardstown to the All-A Classic title

in Richmond, beating Owensboro Catholic 53-50, Bishop Brossart 63-60, Somerset 65-53, and Gallatin Co. 69-51. In the tournament, Calhoun scored 90 points (22.5 ppg),

including 24 in the final. He shot 57% for the tournament, including 50% from 3-point land and 76% from the line. He also added 27 rebounds for the Tigers, and was their leader in assists and steals. He was the named the All-A Tournament MVP.

This week's KNN Scoreboard/Bluegrass Preps.com Player Of The Week is Fairdale's 5'7" Sophomore Cierra Ricketts.

She had a quad double 11 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals, and 15 points--in a game against Louisville Holy Cross. She's already had a triple double this season and 8 double doubles. Cierra also recorded her 500th career rebound to go with 1600 career points in a Valentines Day game against PRP.

Our KNN Scoreboard/ Bluegrass Preps.com Player of the Week is Russell 6'1" Junior Guard Austin Blair--Playing only his 3rd game at point guard after an injury to the starter--he led Russell to a 73-68 victory at Elliot County on Tuesday. Blair had a rare triple/double scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds, and hitting 10/11 free throws. He was 8/15 from the field, 2/2 from 3 point range,with 3 assists and only 3 turnovers.

Actually the 10 free throws is counted as part of that too. It's a rare type of Triple, but it does count.

In leading South Laurel to the 50th District championship, 6-4 junior point guard Ty Proffitt in two games scored 49 points and totalled eight rebounds, eight steals, eight assists and only two turnovers while leading a defense that forced 56 turnovers.

I second that nomination.

I would like to nominate Mike Hester a junior point guard from Simon Kenton Mike had 34 points and hit six three pointers in leading SK to the 32nd district championship. Mike always follows up his offensive game with a strong defensive pressure on the other teams guards . He usually is pretty disruptive to the other teams play calling! Mike is a three year starter at SK and is a top notch student.

Hester totaled 53 points in two district games while taking home MVP of the 4 team tournament.

Our KNN Scoreboard Show/Bluegrass Preps dot com Player of the week is Middlesboro's Stuart Miller. Stuart hit five of seven threes in the first half of a win over Cumberland in the 52nd District at Cawood last Monday night. Miller, a 6-foot senior guard, finished with 32 points. Middlesboro lost to Bell County on Wednesday night, despite Miller's 31 points and seven threes. He finished the season with 173 threes, tops in state history and fifth best in the national record books. He had 475 in his career, the most in state history and fourth most nationally.
