BluegrassPreps.com/Kentucky News Network Player of the week!

Featured Replies

BluegrassPreps.com and the Kentucky News Network are now working together to promote high school football in Kentucky.

We are currently taking nominations for the BGP/KNN player of the week! The player of the week can be from any team and is based on game performance from this weekend.

Please submit your nomination in this thread and provide as much back round/stats/information as possible from the game last week.

The winner will be announced on "The Saturday Morning High School Scoreboard Show" Hosted by Al Mayo. The show can be heard on all of these great stations:

Also, from host Al Mayo:

Hey folks--it's been great using all the nominees week after week on the show, and we'll continue to use them for the foreseeable future. I wanted to remind you of a couple things. When you nominate a player, I need his height, weight, and class designation (Freshman, Sophomore, Etc). I also need the stats to be correct. Just telling me it looked like he ran for over a hundred yards won't do it. Please include all pertinent numbers like carries, pass attempts, completions, yardage gained, number of tackles--you all understand what I need. Otherwise, I have to track these numbers down. Not that I mind doing the legwork, but I normally save this part of the show for last, so I can take nominees until the last possible hour, so I just don't have the time to look it all up. I'll usually pull the information from here by Thursday afternoon, so try to have your candidates nominated by about 2:00pm Thursdays. I couldn't be happier with the information you've all provided, and I'm looking forward to continuing our association with BGP!

KNN High School Scoreboard Show

Sam Diehl 6-1 185 Senior QB NCC 256 passing yards and four touchdown passes.

I nominate 6'0 190 pound junior RB/SS Kasey Clark of Russell 36 carries for 195 yards 3 Rushing tds and 1 recieving td for 11 yards in the Big win over Owensboro Catholic. This also gave him 44 tds on the season and the school record for tds in a season. He acumulated 1,576 Rushing yards on the season.

Great idea, nice to get BGP even more well known.

As you read the different posts and threads on BGP, we brag about our local heroes and standouts, and tout their numbers week after week. Each and every school hopes to see one of their teammates carry the school name on to the D-I level...and perhaps, just perhaps...to hear their hometown mentioned on ESPN or CBS.

And that is what a player of the week usually is.

But as you read BGP, you also see a lot of players, ex-players, fans, and even some coaches revel in a sport that teaches character and team work. I think for everyone here that first smell of Friday night in the fall is exhilirating. It is watching a group of young men who have worked hard over the years and come together as seniors to set their final goal and to achieve it.

As this first Player of the Week is basically the one to represent the 2005 season, my nomination is for a group of players, not just one.

This whole year has seen a majority of BGP'rs dismiss the defense of Lexington Catholic on a regular basis. Whether it was because of a true belief, or just disliking the private school doesn't matter. I would like to think all those who spoke so poorly of that defense are able to recognize what these young men accomplished. Shutting out Highlands in the Regional, shutting down Rockcastle in the semi's, and flat-out dominating Bowling Green at State. This group is not made up of D-I stars, just kids that grew up loving football, enjoying the smell of Friday night.

KASEY CLARK

DITTO !!!!!!!!

KASEY CLARK

without a doubt Kasey Clark!

Kasey Clark gets my vote

Kasey would also get my vote if not for his championship game performance alone, then for his playoff production as a whole.
