Great effort from great kids on both sides. Both coaches showed incredible class and dignity as well. Coach Glaser refused to blame the death of his Father-in-law, but did say in the postgame interviews that his, "head may not have been in it". As for Bob Beattie, he handled all of our questions with class, and gave credit to his players, and the opposition. Nice to hear him say how much he loves his players. I was called sir by more kids in less than 30 minutes than I have ever been. Last nights' game is why I love High School Sports. Those kids left everything on the field. Warriors on the field, and fine young men off it.

I tend to agree with his reasoning. As I mentioned I think the first, second, third, honorable mentiontags should be tossed altogether, and all the kids designated as All State.

I think the choices are good ones, for the most part. I do think Drew Ellison deserved much more recognition, and I thought Neil Holland deserved at least a third team spot. I was glad to see Eric Senn on the second team defense. The trouble with the All State teams is there has to be a first, second, and third team. If it were up to me, I'd just list all the kids chosen as All State, and give equal recognition.

I'm not picking on anyone in particular. But there was a post wondering if the voting may have been affected by his reported committment to UK, and that just is not possible at all. The Mr. Football voting was completed not long after the regular season ended, so it had no bearing on it whatsoever. Contrary to what most people assume, the "media" has a lot more integrity than that assumption would imply. Being on the inside of this as one of the "media", I really get steamed when MEDIA is used to lump all reporters, writers, and broadcasters together as a group. It paints all of us with a broad brush, and not often in a favorable light. It's just unfair to assume things on that basis. It's a bit like the generic use of the word "they". (A real pet peeve of mine) Such as, "They don't want us to know who killed Kennedy!" Who the hell is THEY??

As one the the dreaded "media", let me clear some things up. No one consults with us about who we should vote for. Not other media members, not coaches, parents, or school administrators. The Mr. Football announcement is ALWAYS made the week prior to The State Finals. There is no sinister motive behind the timing of the announcement. As for Johnson's decision on a college-"the media"--in this case Lexington Herald-Leader Sportswriter Chip Cosby--was informed directly by Micah's MOTHER that he would attend UK. There was no idle guessing or speculation. This was a direct quote from his Mom. No one made it up, or fabricated anything. You don't get many better sources than that. By the way, I posted that information earlier this week on another thread, but apparently it was overlooked by some folks. Bear in mind that almost all of the "media", who cover High School Sports across Kentucky, do it because we geniunely enjoy it. Very few of us make substantial money doing it, and with only a few very rare exceptions, I know of none who are biased in their coverage, or have an agenda. Part of the reason "media" people are the voters for Mr. Football, is because we DO see more games than an average fan, and see more players as a result. Speaking for myself, (and I DON'T have a vote), I've seen all of the candidates this season--either live or on video, and I think Micah was an admirable choice. Bear in mind too--The Roy Kidd Award recognizes a player from each class, and an overall winner. That award is voted on by COACHES, so I think we should see how that one comes out before accusing anyone of bias. Sorry just venting a bit. I absolutely enjoy the information I get from all of you on BGP, but it's hard to see my profession unfairly maligned.

I spoke to my colleague Doug Ormay this morning, and he tells me the Roy Kidd Award results have been tabulated. The Roy Kidd Award is an annual award co-sponsored by the KHSAA and The Kentucky News Network. One player is named as the winner in each classification--1A-2A-3A-4A--and an overall winner is also named for the entire state. The winner will be announced by the KHSAA during the High School Football Championship weekend.

(AP) _ College coaches look at Micah Johnson and see different things _ a linebacker, a defensive end, a fullback, a tailback, perhaps a tight end. But there's one thing about which they all agree: Whatever Johnson's position, the Fort Campbell High School standout is a terrific player. That's also the consensus of a panel of sports writers and broadcasters from around the state, who have selected Johnson over four other finalists as Kentucky's ``Mister Football'' for 2005. The 6-foot-2, 265-pound Johnson says he will play at the University of Kentucky. The other finalists for this year's award were Lexington Catholic quarterback Justin Burke, Covington Catholic quarterback Drew Ellison, Henderson County quarterback Will Fidler and Pulaski Southwestern defensive end Josh Minton.

That's odd, because Doug Ormay from KNN just spoke to Shawn Berner--the Fort Campbell Head Coach--less than an hour ago, and he said the Herald Leader report was incorrect. In fact, he was pretty adamant about no commitment being made by Micah as of yet. Doug and I just talked it over, and we both agree that Chip Cosby's source was obviously a good one--but can't figure out why his coach wouldn't know about it. Your thoughts?

Last week's KNN High School Scoreboard/BGP Player Of the Week was Matt Maynard of Belfry.Matt had only 11 carries last week, but racked up 225 yards and 4 TD's, two of which were 50+ yards.

In 1978 I played in a State Semi-Finals game in Ohio at the Akron Rubber Bowl. It was the first week of December, and the temp at kickoff was 30 degrees, with freezing rain and sleet. The astro-turf then was one of the worst surfaces I've ever seen. It was like fuzzy concrete. We were all bloody and bruised. The worst part was the wind was blowing about 25 mph, so the wind chill was way below zero. I ended up with frostbite on my little toe, and to top it of we lost in triple OT to Berea. Fumbled away the snap on 4th and goal at the one yard line---we were going for the win too--final was 6-3.

Since I've seen both teams several times this season, I feel like I'm qualified to make this prediction. St. X-24 Manual 21 In Overtime.

Leo Peckenpaugh, who has been broadcasting Henderson County games for 30 years, told listeners on WSON after Friday's game that it would be his last, according to the Henderson Gleaner. Last week's Bluegrass Preps dot Com KNN Scoreboard Show Player of the Week was South Laurel senior WR Zack Marcum — in his first significant action after being hobbled with injuries for much of the season — he had 9 catches for 13 yards and two TDs (17, 60) A 78-yard reverse for a touchdown on South Laurel's first play from scrimmage, and also blocked a punt resulting in a safety. He also had three pass break ups on defense.
