  1. I was at the game and agree with this post. Same as I saw it.
  2. is there any way to watch the game over the internet??? or is it just over the radio?
  3. While Trinity was excellent and earned the Championship, "could have been worse" is simply not true. By the way, it was 41-7, do not know how you got 6. T could not score on their 1st 3 possessions, and their 1st score was with a short field after a turnover. They also had 1st and goal with their 1st team O at the one, could not get it in. Many of their scores were on or field position enhanced by broken plays, great individual plays by a scrambling Petrino. Ryles D stopped much of their standard O, but could not handle Petrino's great scrambling. They even ran a statue of Liberty early 4th qtr, and were throwing downfield often in the 4th. And their 1st team O was in at least until late 4th. Meanwhile, what most people do not know, Ryle lost an O lineman in the 1st qtr, had to shift another and bring in an inexperienced lineman. Basically they lost their rythm on the whole left side of the line. They were just not in the position to have the depth of Trinity, that is just the breaks for Ryle. But could have been worse is simply untrue, T tried their hardest for points, and that is OK, but not a case of could have been worse. Not trying to take anything away from Trinity, and congratulations to them. Just trying to things real. And I vote for Trintiy clearly as the best on 2006. They beat the best in the biggest class week after week!
  4. The East kicker was Ross Uminger from Ryle. Ryle fans have watched him kick like that for years, lots of touchbacks. Has been their kicker since he was a Freshman. His 36yard field goal was also a strong kick. Has been accurate with great distance on field goals also. Extra points are automatic for him. He is going to Kentucky as a prefered walk on. Ws a very entertaining game, the boys all put on a great show. Good luck to all!!
  5. Not sure how that is possible since Popham and Uminger were 1...2 with nearly identical scores at Dayton in 2006. Sounds like he is very good though.
  6. Jared Kaufman from Ryle will be one of the top kickers next season. He could have started for almost any other team in NKY last season, but unfortunately had to take a backseat to Uminger for the past 2 years. He could hit from 57 last year with kickoffs landing in the endzone about everytime and has gotten a lot stronger during the offseason
  7. A school population is affected by many factors, both public and private. Thats why there are now 6 clases, to have schools of similar size compete against each other. If CCH keeps same size, then same class. increase biffer class, decrease, smaller class. I do not understand the discussion about $$ and football/enrollment with a class system.
  8. Maybe I misunderstood, my comment is based on this discussion being ... will he stay for his Jr and Sr years, NOT to finish out just this school year. I agree it is very common and also agree good to finish out one school year if the family must move during the year.
  9. This is a very stange topic. This is high school. Parents change jobs, relocate to another city. Children, and that is what they are until 18, move with their parents and go to school in the district where their parents live. Any discussion about a child living in another city to play a sport is ridiculous unless there is some special family situation oran extreme talent which can best be developed at a specialized school, music ... But to play sports? Lets get our priorities straight!
  10. Ryle has had a great year, they have come together as a team and their core group of seniors and juniors have worked hard for several years to earn their way to this championship game, getting stronger each week and overcoming adversity of some key early season injuries and stumbling against Boone They will bring their best to Papa John Thursday and leave it all on the field. Will that be enough to win? Time will tell and it will be fun to watch the competition. And thanks to the other NKY teams who really are part of this by providing the quality competition to push Ryle to become better. Especially Campbell, Dixie, and Boone, but not to take away for the others. All the talk about comparing to different teams, different years, saying they cant do this, they will get beat at that really does not mean a lot with the game 3 days away. Lets watch our KY HS kids compete against each other in a big game, let the best team win while appreciating the accomplishments of whoever is the runner up. Our kids on both teams deserve compliments and encouragement. And in case you cannot guess my loyalty, GO RAIDERS !!!
  11. I heard both Shane and Ross went to the same Ray Guy camp last summer. I understand about 1,000 kids go through those camps throughout the country over the summer. If you look at the rankings on prokicker.com, Shane is 13th and Ross is 18th nationally. It rained hard both days, no handicap was factored in. Ross made all 10 of his evaluation FGs, includes two from 50, Shane made 9 of his. Both kicked a soaked heavy leather ball on a wet field. You will see very few make even 9/10 in good weather. Both had their kickoff hang times and distance reduced by weather or they would be top 10 or top 5. We are fortunate to have two great kickers in N Ky. Following Ryle, Ross has had to kick in rain and mud for much of the year and has done great. The Holmes game at Ryle was amazing, pouring rain, mud so bad there was no way to lock his plant foot, looked like a controlled slide. Into a stiff wind. And he was 6/6 on PATs, 2/2 on 30 yrd FGs. These things do not show in the stats. He is actually perfect on extra points that were in his control, now somewhere around 50/50 with the playoffs. The misses that show in the stats incl blocks, fumbled sanps, even a snap over the holders head at Boone which Ross ran back to recover. About range, have seen him kick >55 yds in warmups in good weather. Shane has had a great year and has taken advantage of his opportunities. Shane's stats do his talking, and Shane deserves all the credit he is getting. Congrats Shane on a great year. I also see many colleges who would improve themselves with our NKY kickers! Both are top kickers and I wish them both well!
  12. I guess you were there to comment? Anyone there knows the outcome was in doubt until very late. And again, our #1 QB was out, and it definitely affected that game. Two of their TDs came late 4th qtr, last one on a fake punt up 21 - 7 with 2 minutes to go. Push the bus back?, nice comment. Did Trinity lose at all this year? Did they push their bus back too? I just made an honest post relevant to the discussion, no need to return with insults.
  13. Interesting, how do you know they cannot come from behind? Ryle is 12 -2. Only had two possible chances to come from behind, one was opening game against a very good Cincy team which they beat in the first half, just ran out of gas in the heat in the second half, did not even have their starting QB. Not enough history for anyone to judge. So I think Ryle's true potential and capability is really unkown to opponents. Will make for a fun championship game! Maybe T does win big, maybe a close win for T, and maybe an upset by Ryle. Thats why they play and thats why fans go watch!
  14. Hope everyone comes out on this beautiful day to see some great footbal and supports a Ryle victory! I will predict Ryle wins 38 - 20. Good luck to CCH and NewCath!
  15. I was at the game, I do knowas Meade took the field at game time, they gathered and got pumped up, jumped up and down at center field, do not know why as most teams gather at their sidelines. I know nothing about the spitting. Anyway, Meade Cty came in and gave it their best. It was one those nights, all have our ups and downs. All Meade players and supporters should be proud of their season and how you came on very strong in the 2nd half. Only 8 teams made it as far as you did, so congratulations on your season. And you brought a very good crowd, incl a very good performance by your band at halftime! Made for a great HS football atmosphere. And I liked your mascot, never knew what a Greenwave looked like, nice costume, seriously!
  16. I dont think anyone is in a position to make such a statement of fact, "not going to win 4A" , none of us really knows who will win until the games are played. Now if that is your prediction, all of us can make predictions!
  17. Good luck to all 3 NKY teams, and how about all of the NKY football community who is not following their team out of town coming out to support Ryle at home this Friday night!
  18. Fair enough NamecipS, sorry. FYI, 3 teams left from NKY.
  19. I find it interesting that there are several threads talking about "last year" and " next year" already when we are in the middle of the playoffs, the pinnacle of the season. I always thought as the playoffs progress, the area schools begin lining up behind their peers in strong support as they move to take on other regions of the state. I think it works all ways, some years your favorite school advances and others support you, and when it is not your year, you support others, all classes, A, AA, AAA, AAAA. The rest of the state sure talks about N KY generically, does not matter to them which school name advances, we are considered N. KY schools at this point. So it is the critical time of the playoffs, and it feels a bit strange to have so much talk already about last year, next year... Just my observation, opinion, and maybe hope that N KY football can be a community that follows each other through the end, then talks about last year, next year. Just my thoughts, do not intend to offend anyone.
  20. Ryle's run and their defense is too strong. Raiders advance.
  21. Seems this thread will not end...I saw two good teams playing each other hard, doing their best to win last Friday, each handicapped to some extent with players out. Ryle worked hard, clearly earned the win. Dixie gave it their all, Mosier deserves huge credit the way he played, left his heart on the field. To the many reading this and not posting, we should realize all the discussion is by a few people, each with strong opinions. Yeah a few people say things before games, that is part of it. The sportmanship at the game was very good on both sides, I saw some of the Dixie and Ryle players congratulating each other off the field after the game, talking, showing respect for each other and great sportmanship. I think most N KY fans follow each other as the playoffs advance. It was great when Dixie went to Lou and beat Trinity 2 years ago, a win for all N KY, especially if you follow what they say about us down there. Most were for Boone last year at Trinity. Lets keep that same spirit which I know already exists. Now there are two camps, for Ryle or Campbell. Time to talk about this week, which camp are you in? That theread needs to be started. There will be a hard fought game this Friday, then next week we will all be in the winners camp as we take on the state! Thats the way N KY 4A football should be!
  22. Ross Uminger, Ryle's Sr kicker is the other KY kicker who went to the Ray Guy camp at Dayton the same time as Popham. Both faced two days of heavy rain and did excellent with a wet field, soaked heavy leather ball and kicking in the rain. There were no adjustments in their stats due to weather, just raw scores. Uminger made 10/10 on his test kicks, Popham 9/10 under those conditions. The kicks are 5 each from the left and right hash from 30 yards moving back to 50 yards. So we have two great kickers in Northern KY to do that in those circumstances and both are having excellent seasons. Their kickoff hang times suffered some due to rain and heavy balls, so you cannot really compare to another without the handicapping for weather. Both would be top 10 nationally with their normal kickoffs in good weather. As it is, Popham is 13, Uminger 18th. Merrick is 53. But Merrick did do great for a Sophomore at 53rd and he will have a great future if he keeps working at it. good luck to him, lets keep the good kickers coming form KY!
