I totally agree. Henderson is definately a top 6 player in N. KY. I thought he rally carried Holmes in the regionals.

I would like to see what Hill could do against Brossart's D. Corey has avg 24 ppg in the 6 times they have played Brossart in the past 2 years.

Footballstud-you obviously didn't see Corey play or you would realize he should have taken twice as many shots as he did. He was too unselfish and could have got 40 if he wanted. The biggest reason Pelle deserves this is because he made his teammates better. They had 2 starters from a 2-20 JV team the previous year, Aaron Allen (only played 2 years of organized hoops) and Teddy Wiseman (who had avg 6 ppg the previous year). Pelle made these kids better and led the smallest school in the state to 20 wins and 3 very competitive games against the best team in N. KY (Brossart). I don't think Hill makes others around him better the way Corey does. By the way Preston Knowles was the 10th Region POY (for seniors) and was very deserving of the award. Knowles is better than Pelle and will most likely sign with VCU.

Trust me, if it was up to SG's coach, they would have played Holmes, NewCath, etc. He is crazy enough to play anyone. They are limited because they MUST play 14 conference games. They have no choice. Also, they are in the 10th region and have to play a few games in their actual region.

As for SG's schedule I think some people need their eyes opened. You are only allowed to play 23 games (2 tourneys can count for 1 game each), so basically 21 regular season games. SG is bound to 14 conference games in the NKAC (Beechwood, Ludlow, etc.) Also, they must play every team in the district once. They already play Calvary in the NKAC, so that leaves Brossart, Scott and Campbell. So now your are up to 17 games. That leaves St. Pat, Pendleton, Bracken and Deming (all 10th region teams). Many of you don't realize SG only has 79 students in the high school and every team they play is bigger than them and they are bound to 17 games every year. That is why their coach scheduled Moeller, Turpin, Finneytown, Holmes, Boone, Dixie, NewCath, Highlands, Lou. Manuel, etc. over the summer. They competed with all of them. As for Corey, I personally witnessed him have 26 points and 10 assists against the Derek Smith West AAU that included Pettigrew, Beckham, Beaumont, etc. In addition, they beat a McLean Co. team that would have been in the top 10 in N. KY and played well for 3 quarters against Bowling Green (in which Pelle had 29 thru 3 quarters). The top 8 players had just played 3 weeks earlier vs. CovCath in the football finals-so they were obviously very talented and athletic. Pelle scored more outside of their small school conference than he did in. I just can't wait to watch him play with guys as talented as he is. As for Hill, the only he has on Corey is an inch or 2, and 20 pounds. Other than that, Corey is a much better ballhandler, shooter and defender. You may be suprised, but Pelle is more athletic-as he had 20 dunks on the season.

Great job Corey! Pelle wasn't even rated in the top ten in the 10th Region going into the season and was ranked 10th in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties. This is a great example of how dedicating yourself over the summer pays off! I just can't wait to hear everyone complain that Corey did this against weak competiton. Ask Brossart and Mike Code about Corey. If that isn't enough ask Carl Kremer from Moeller-the Trains played them over the summer and Pelle had around 30. And if that isn't enough, ask Beckham, Pettigrew and the rest of Derek Smith All Stars. I witnessed Pelle have 28 pts and 10 assists against them this summer. The best all around player got this award.

What does Augusta have coming back? I know Hardymon was a sr., what about White and Staggs?

Smith was a better high school player, surrounded by better players. I know Smith only played one year of college hoops, but Corey will be much better in college. Pelle won't have to face the double and triple teams in college like he did in high school. Corey still has room to mature physically and his best ball is in front him.

Hill also has 3 D 1 or D 2 athletes on his team. Pelle had one other kid on the team that would make any other high school roster (Wiseman). In some games Pelle faced a triangle and 2, with 2 guys on him. SG saw just about every defense this year. Box and 1, Run and junp Pelle, Diamond and 1, Press, Zone, etc. And he still was 3rd in the state. I still can't figure out the knock on the schedule when they played Brossart 3 times, Campbell, Scott and Bowling Green. Brossart finished 10th in the final AP poll. If SG would have played Male and J-Town each once (they were both around the 9 and 10 Mark) and only played Brossart once, everyone would be saying how amazing the schedule was. To win 20 games given their size and schedule was an amazing feat. Brossart finished 2nd in the state in scoring defense and Pelle scored more against them in one game by himself than 4 teams did this year.

Silver Grove to West Liberty is 3 hrs and 30 minutes.

Well said. It is truly a great day to be a Grover. This is the first time since 1974 that a Silver Grove boy has signed a full scholarship a NCAA school. However, there was a resident of Silver Grove who was a pretty good athlete that signed at UK in '99. (Derek Smith) This should add to the excitement of Alumni night at the Grove tonight!

Top to bottom, coaches in N. KY. seem to get the most out of their talent regardless of the size of their school. I think Grant Brannen did a great job in his first year. They played a very tough schedule (Scott Co, Clark Co., CovCath twice, Brossart twice and North College Hill). With that, still won 15 games, the All A region and the District. After Kiernan, team was mostly unknowns.

I think this goes to prove how strong the 37th was this year. At one time they had 4 of the top 7 teams in the region.

Like I said, each individual coach nominates his own players. Kelsch must have thought those 4 were worthy. The other 16 coaches didn't think they were, and they ended up on the hon. mention. In my opinion, Mason could have 4 guys on it.

Definitely Pelle. I have never seen a 5'11'' kid jump like him. He had over 20 dunks this year.

Nice article, I just don't know why Brossart thinks they were entitled to Corey. He went to Saint Mary's for one year and went to Campbell Co to play football as a freshman. Pelle's are Grovers and always will be. example-Pelle's Cafe, Pelle's tax service. The only thing that has been in Silver Grove longer than the Pelle's is the Dari Bar.
