The Trinity d-backs came together better on this day. Great strides since the U of L tourney. Williams is learning. Now if he can locate his helmet...he may stay out of the doghouse LaSalle has some athletes but I think they showed a lack of self control or discipline at times which will cost them against Moeller, Elder and Cincy St.X. Highlands has a couple of good receivers, one with some size similar to the CovCath player Trinity saw last week. Withrow has some speed guys and will make some noise in Cincy. Trinity played from 5PM until 8PM. The JV or second string got in some good work but the first team offense really shined. The most curious thing is it was 7 on 8 everytime Trinity was on offense. Apparently it is normal for the Cincy and Northern Ky teams to play eight on defense during these workouts. Trinity stayed with 7 on defense forcing more individual responsibility on the defenders. At times, the opposition had a blitzing end run by the QB at full speed. The 4 second rule was sporadically enforced. It was like street basketball, you had to call the coverage sack on yourself.......no spearing and very few knockdowns during the 3 hours. No fights and very few stare downs. Overall, very well organized and the 30 minute matches stayed on time.....no breaks.....

I hope the KHSAA goes to 6 classes. That would free up three open dates for Trinity. CovCath and Trinity matched up very well. I was glad to see the pre season continue on a positive note.

Trinity lost on a last second TD pass not an int., and Male won it all beating the PA. team By my score of 25 - either 13 or 14 I wasn't sure if the PA. team went for 2 or not cause they got called for a penelty as they scored.

Since we are splitting hairs today, that would be November this season! 1. Thanksgiving Day practice for the Rocks. 2. Seeing Trinity's Whiting and Brady step up with Taugher's retirement and Weitlauf out until Oct. 3. Seeing Butler stir up their district.

Prior to the state final, limited travel expenses come off the top of gate receipts along with lights, security, etc. The "balance" is then split between the two competing teams. The KHSAA pays out a small per mile rate for bringing 54 players. If you bring more, it's out of the school's pocket. The KHSAA also pays for one meal ($5.00) for 54 kids. That's it. It's all on the KHSAA website if you search long enough. Fees paid to officials per round,etc. It's all there.

The problem with 6 classes is what sort of districts are you able to make in the mountains and in western half of state? The travel could be brutal. On the plus side, if we can get down to 4 and 5 team districts, that would be great for scheduling. That's part of the reason Ohio schools can attract out of town big time programs. As things are now, every two years our district schedule changes and the number of open dates changes. All schools need more wiggle room in scheduling to better groom their schedule to match the skill level of the athletes.

Thanks to the BOC for the extra pocket change for the Louisville schools. Hopefully district 1 won't draw district 8 very often. I am awaiting a reply to an inquiry to the KHSAA about the playoff situation. The odd/even district bit the 2A twice with 2 odds and 2 evens playing each other. Who gets to be home team if both district winners survive? Semi state is no longer east vs west, so who gets to be home team if two number 1s survive? John Hardin to Boone County? Start the bus!

Both men are changing their positions at least in part for the women in their lives. Coach Adams has a long time girlfriend in 'Bama and it was time for him to return home to his roots. Coach Coverdale is quoted in the Evansville paper that his wife wants the opportunity to complete some advanced coursework in English at the University of Louisville. This will open many more doors for her career. It's a win-win situation for both men. I have heard positive remarks from many, many students past and prsent and parents & co-workers regarding both coaches. Get the CD burner up and running as Coach Coverdale brings his version of the spread offense back to the Commonwealth. A coach doesn't create better skill athletes. He may help make them better but the basic quickness, agility, etc must exist in the athletes. Coach Kevin Wright threw the ball at Trinity and ran the ball exclusively at Warren Central in Indianapolis. I don't believe Coach Coverdale's stable was quite as full at Castle. Let's see how the next man does at Castle.

My guess is "Minnie" will attend UVA for a season or two. Then he'll return to the Commonwealth to complete his eligibility. Homesickness , etc. may play a huge role in this.

Just another reason to get after him if he meets up with the Rocks this season. He stated that he feels certain UVA's coach will remain "throughout his career there". He didn;t feel confident Coach Petrino was going to be around U of L for four or five more years.

....and Montrell Jones, this combo was the difference in 2000!

That's my understanding. The offensive mind set and lack of skill players to implement his spread offense contributed to the lack of success at Castle.

I have been told by someone from Boyle County that the employment opportunities increased dramatically in the area, bringing in more population. This increased the number of good athletes available, coupled with coaching and the new support of the community and thus a program was established. Sustaining this juggernaut for the next ten years or so should be intereting to watch.

It will take another Eric Shelton type performer for a Lexington school to win a state title. A big powerful back that carries would be tackler(s) for ten yards......that's the kind of athlete that will give Trinity and St. X the most difficulty defending.

Do you see the Commonwealth of Kentucky handing out checks to all community schools for stadium improvements or community centers? My point is this was misrepresented to the General Assembly. As far as the downfall of Fairdale football, back in the day a new principal and Coach Fletcher didn't see eye to eye. Fairdale offered a class in horticulture and that was their main way of getting kids outside their home district into the school. The City of Louisville tore down the housing projects where many of the better athletes lived that was part of Fairdale's official home district. These families were scattered and this dominant district football power's reign came to an end. The school's enrollment has dipped in recent years.

I guess this "turmoil" explains while the Briar Jumpers bailed on the Bulldog Bash this past weekend in Louisville. They were scheduled to play Trinity and Owensboro Catholic. It's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing Somerset for many reasons.

I watched the TV broadcast. . Trinity got a little recognition with the City of St. Matthews float, mainly because they did have their jerseys on and Dawne Gee asked John Belski (WAVE-TV news and weather personalities), which team are those guys representing? No mention was made of the Tigers helping out the Ronald McDonald inflatable as they wore McDonald's caps.

Thanks for all the input. Glad I could post a thread that created some reaction. This will not be used extensively by the public. The Fairdale youth team will play their games on this field. They practice on grounds elsewhere on the property. Soccer won't be an issue as Fairdale High has no soccer team. This may be a way around title IX. There is no building to be used as a communty center going up. There are no community track meets per se. I believe each public school in the Commonwealth should ask for their $300K. The city of Louisville will be kicking in some funds as they move tennis courts from one area to another on the Fairdale High property to allow for a field house to be built. Fairdale has two gyms already as basketball is traditonally king in Fairdale country. My point is that full disclosure should be made of how "our" tax dollars are being used. This is "state" money, not simply local funds.
