If Boyle County can come out of no where and dominate for several years why can other high schools do the same thing? What do the coaches in Boyle County know that the rest of us don't know?

I'm an Ashland fan who was living in the Lex area about 1996-98.

As a HS football fan I went to different games in the area most Fridays; Lex Cath, Harrodsburg, etc as well as the other city schools.

 

I told people back then that Boyle was going to be amajor power as long as "that coach" was there - only knew he was a former Uk player.

They weren't winning all the games back then but had great fundamentals, an outstanding approach to everything, and especially - played hard.

Students of the game could see what was going to happen once they got a good run of athletes!!

 

Boyle did it the right way IMO. and thats nice to watch.

They ran a great article about their feeder program in the Lexington Herald a couple of years ago. Great coaching is where it started. The feeder program and middle school were taken care of and the whole community bought in. It's not a secret plan but there aren't many places that do things the right way anymore with total support!

While Bolye certainly deserves credit for the most amazing run in KY football history, I think the reality of that run was that they had excellent coaching, but more importantly, they had a staggering number of very good "high school" football players, often complimented by two or three superstars.

 

Boyle Co. beat you with the Tamme's, Overstreet's and Lefew's of the world, mixed sparingly in with a whole boat load of 5'11 - 6'1, 185 - 210lb kids who played like animals.

 

While they will be a force to be reckoned with, don't hedge your bets towards seeing anything remotely close to what we saw during that era of dominance.

No doubt they had some serious talent during their run. They were so fundamentally sound that it was amazing to watch too though.

I would much rather have little guys who play like animals than big guys who rely too much on their size. :thumb:

One thing that has not been mentioned on here was the TOTAL SUPPORT from the administration which is lacking from a majority of schools in this commonwealth.

Coming from someone who has watched one of those linemen for a couple of years - I wouldn't be too shocked if I were some people that the line continues to perform the same way as always.

 

As mentioned in another post this school has the support of everyone from the school on down to the fans in the stands! We may not be as dominate as in the past but we aren't going to be a team to sneeze at either.:thumb:

It is obviously a mix of various componets that made them great but I have often wondered if the success of the Danville Admirals also plays into the Boyle success. Being in the same community and seeing and feeling the success of Danville surely had a influence in the Boyle drive to reach that level of success
