The latest controversy is all the more reason we should go to 6 classes and not 5!

Featured Replies

There are only two real issues with football in KY and that is enrollment disparity in 1A and 4A and in a lot of people's opinions T and X.

Six classes, instead of five, gives us the opportunity to nearly solve much of the disparity in enrollment which will therefore cool the anti-T and X sentiment.

Again, I like the bottom 16 teams in 1A, the top 16 teams in 6A and equal amounts in 2A though 5A. And I think you should be allowed to play up if you want to.

While I am at it we should have two finals on Thursday, two on Friday, and two on Saturday to make the KHSAA football finals the start of an event like the Sweet 16.

I'm all for it. I'm looking forward to wearing a "Kentucky 6A State Champion Trinity" tee-shirt.

How about we make it 10 classes and give everybody a trophy! :D

I like the way you think.

Excellent, and I agree 100%

We would be about 215 trophies short. ;)

I am not totally in favor of 6 classes either. I really lean more towards 5 classes.

Why not make 5A the Super Class with the top 24 teams, and divide out the rest. That would put approximately 49-50 teams in each of the remaining classes. If they want to put a smaller number of lower enrollment teams, I am okay with that. I just think that 6 is too many IMHO. I could live with it, but am much more in favor of 5 classes.

However, Guru's plan is not too bad and I could get behind that one. It could be a good thing and ANY event that could become an even bigger deal like this could be a good thing!

The problem with 6 classes is what sort of districts are you able to make in the mountains and in western half of state? The travel could be brutal.

On the plus side, if we can get down to 4 and 5 team districts, that would be great for scheduling.

That's part of the reason Ohio schools can attract out of town big time programs. As things are now, every two years our district schedule changes and the number of open dates changes. All schools need more wiggle room in scheduling to better groom their schedule to match the skill level of the athletes.

how would that be fair for the other 14 schools in T and X? Sure be better for everyone else, but T and X still would almost double the Male enrollment of the biggest public school.

I am uneasy about the idea of 5 or 6 classes. I just feel that it would water down competition. it is supposed to be tough to win state. I don't feel we have enough teams in the state to warrant more classes.

Is there anyone else who feels that the future of KY is more consolidations?

That would mean fewer & fewer 1A and/or 2A schools and more & more 4A schools probably (or 5A??)

ie., a 16 team 1A division could maybe find itself real short soon?

Just asking b/c I had heard no one mention the possibility of Harrodsburg's loss anytime this topic was discussed

Don't get me started on consolidation. I just go through ranting about the anti blow-out rule. However, as Guru proposed it, it would always be the smallest 16 teams and the largest 16, in A and AAAAAA respectively. The rest would be divided equally. Eventually, consolidation might make so many classes unworkable, but I'm certain before that happens our society will have imploded upon itself from the horrors of consolidation and anarchy will reign.

I hear the next plan is to have only one high school in the state, Kentucky Central High, located in Larue or Marion county.

I don't have the numbers in front of me but I think there are some other very large schools like Henderson County and a couple from Lexington.

Either way, this is about as "fair" as you are going to get it and it is certainly better than making the next 50 or so schools compete with X and T.

So when will the new class system be implemented???

When we were talking about this last year, (and the year before), I worked it out and listed all the schools for all the new classes. I'll try and dig it up.

I will say you are recieving more support than when I supported the idea.

At first glance, the 6A sounds like it would be just too few schools to be all that feasible... 16 teams spread across the state would make for some unreal regular season travel times.

Then again, there's bound to be some great games there and no matter how far, I'm sure I'll travel anyway. Upon further review, the ruling in my head is reversed. I like the 6A idea.
