Apparently pretty much EVERYONE seems to have missed the point, save a few of you enlightened souls. Now that may be the case, but if it is, then this is doubtlessly the worst made point in the history of KHSAA in terms of clarity.

It is the act of the KHSAA, as an organization, stepping away from the issue and leaving it in the hands of the schools that is disturbing. The issue of sportsmanship is a very important one these days as we continually see it deteriorating at the professional levels. The KHSAA is the governing body of HS sports in KY and thus one of their major responsibilities is to govern, guide, and ensure sportsmanship in its participants. To move away from that is a failure of the organizational responsibilities of the KHSAA. I liken it, on a MUCH smaller scale, to the belief that schools should just teach academics and not moral law (notice, I said moral here, not biblical or denominationally religious). I just feel like instead of the KHSAA, the highest power in KY HS Sports, taking a definitive stance to help push sportsmanship, they have failed by saying, "It's up to you." That, to me, is not leadership.

I guess wel will just agree to sidagree on this. I think it sends the wrong message and is yet another step in the direction of removing accountability and quality life-lessons from sports, and you think it's pretty much not a big deal and not worth worring about. We just view it differently.

Apparently, the national mainstream media does not agree with you as is quite evident by the enormous backlash this has brought on. It is a slippery slope you're promoting. That is not the problem or the objective of the KHSAA to worry about. The KHSAA exists to govern High School (and soon to be Middle School) athletics and its participants. It should do so to the best of its abilities. This is a failing in that respect.

I find it quite comical that somehow NBC Nightly News, Sports Illustrated, Sports Center, members of the KY House of Rep.'s, and pretty much every single news, radio, and newspaper in KY "all got it wrong" and that in fact, the KHSAA and Tackett were just misunderstood. Give me a break. This was a despicable "cover our butt and wash our hands of this" act and they got called on it. Trying to defend it is just more of the same pandering to the KHSAA's desire to absolve itself of its duties in the name being legally exempt from liability. It is not the wording or the definitions of the release by Tackett that bother me, and I imagine a good deal of the above mentioned; it is the premise that it is not the responsibility of the KHSAA and all those in the positions of leadership for high school athletes to help those young men and women learn how to function as civil members of society, regardless of the intensity of the competition.

Plain and simple. Tackett sent out a horribly written 1st draft. He then refused to come out and say, "My bad, I should have probably written that a little differently; I can see how it could have been misconstrued." He then tried to chastise people who pretty much quoted his original release and even went so far as to try arguing word definitions with public officials. The end result, well, you're seeing it. One of the most important qualities a leader can possess is the ability to admit when they were wrong, sent the wrong message, or led their followers down the wrong path. I have yet to see a "My bad, sorry" comment regarding this come directly from the KHSAA.

It is a shame that we have an administering body that is in charge of children and the adults who guide children that feels as though its primary objective is to protect itself from legal liability of the actions that can occur due to the competitive natures of its parties of jurisdiction. Rather than create a program and plan to help promotion and education of proper behaviors, it washes its hands of the matter and says, "Y'all figure it out."

I'll go ahead and talk about the elephant in the room... How shameful should the St. X administration feel for this absolutely ridiculous crew they brought in and handed an excellent team to? The Head Coach had zero coaching experience save a very brief stint in which he quit, and that was at the Freshman level. The QB coach had zero experience and has now quit. SIX dads with players on the team? It's a shameful disgrace to what could have been for this X team. I am not saying that the coaches ought to be blamed entirely for this. The blame for this debacle falls on those people who put these guys in a VERY bad position by making some VERY bad choices in both their firing AND hiring. I mean, if I said to any one of my buddies who watch football everyday and who many of were an excellent players in high school and college, "Hey man, I need you to be the Head Coach of a high school team real quick. And not just any high school, a major, 200+ kid program with huge boosters and extreme expectations." ...and expected him to be successful? That's insanity. But that's exactly what St. X has done. Crazy! X has players. EVERYWHERE. They are as big and as good or almost as good at EVERY skill and line position as ANYONE they have or will play this year. But they are like a little league program in terms of what they're doing on both sides of the ball. It is comical to watch and the only thing that keeps them from loosing every game is just good their players actually are. It is a shame for the kids.

McCracken has lost to a 1A and a decent 3A team and they are the third best in 6A? Wow, either the Lit is WAY off or 6A is WAY down.

Even if they did, do they have anything to tweet about this year?

I feel like it would be a little more effective if some company like Nike or Russell came out with a "Pink Football Apparel" line that donated 100% of the profits to Breast Cancer charities. That to me would make it a little more easy for me to support. I agree with Slinging Sammy that it has become more of a "look at us wearing pink" event rather than focused on the actual cause. Further, a lot of companies are making a lot of money off the cause, rather than pushing all of those profits towards the cause. In the end, it is a good thing for a great cause, but I just feel like it could be done better and with a good deal more emphasis on having the representation of awareness reflect actual awareness and financial assistance.

It ain't like T has really set the world on fire against their schedule...congrats on getting beat by good teams...I guess.:idunno:

The more you all say it, the more everyone finds it comical that you have to keep telling yourselves that.

The final TD pass of the game was a crossing route caught at 6 yards by a 5'5 Freshman (albeit, a fast Freshman) who committed a Cardinal sin and instead of making the catch and turning up-field and getting vertical, he kept running horizontally across the entire field, picked up a good block from another FR WR and just happened to break it for a long TD.

So beating a 2-4 3A Ft. Campbell team suddenly makes you a 6A monster?

As a BG supporter who pays money to be a part of this site, it just gets a little old seeing these same-themed threads pop up over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over again.

I'll say this, at least AvidTiger hasn't crawled into a hole like the rest of his St. X brethren who were wildly pounding their chests before this season began...or before BG showed up on X's doorstep. Having seen X up close myself, I'm of the opinion that X people are experiencing a little visit from Mr. Karma. They ran out the man who probably could have won state with this team in favor of a guy whose only coaching experience was as a FRESHMAN coach and he QUIT. What a shame.

That's a lot of scoring...but Scott Co.'s offense is to 6A what South Warren's defense is to 3A...a product of who they play...

Recent history does not agree with Highlands beating X or T...

It is my understanding the Bye plays all the teams in the GCL South....hence, they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Did I miss something or didn't St. X beat Simon Kenton in their scrimmage? Also, it seems we have all forgotten that in the wake of their out-of-state losses, that Trinity pretty much destroyed Highlands, a team many regard as one of at least the three best in KY, in their scrimmage. Scott Co. is a good team...on the level of T and X...uh, no.

One advantage to NOT platooning...recruiting film. Colleges like to see versatility in a player. The more oppertunities you have to get a kid on film making plays and displaying a range of athletic capabilities, the better his chances for catching a recruiter's eye. That said, I am an advocate of platooning.
