What does the Bowling Green win say about their National Ranking?

Featured Replies

Does it say, told you so, the Purples marched on and beat a Tennessee power and they deserve every bit of their national ranking and more?

Or does is it say giving up 36 points to ANYONE is far too much for a Top 25 Nationally ranked team and having to come from behind in the second half is never a position a nationally ranked team should be in unless they are playing their equal or better?

Additionally, McCallie is a fine football team but this is their second loss in a row and they have Ensworth this week in what will probably be three losses in a row...

My thinking is Bowling Green is a fine football team, maybe the best in KY, but they should beat a team like McCallie by three or four touchdowns if they are truly a top 25 team in the nation.

Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Why?

Not the latter. When you watch these ESPN high school games you see so-called "national powers" from Florida, etc. get into shootouts where they give up 30+ all the time, but they score 50. I think BG deserves their ranking. I also think the rankings have a lot to do with recruiting name-branding and other things, and less to do with team quality.

If (big if) McCallie beats Ensworth, Maxpreps will give Purples their highest ranking to date in my opinion.

I hear what you are saying but if McCallie loses a third in a row you certainly can't call them anything close to a national power and that certainly erodes the foundation of your argument.

Very possible.

What do we know about Siegel that beat McCallie last week 34 to 31?

I will also say this, if that is the "logic" MaxPreps uses then Bowling Green should be downgraded significantly if Ensworth wins.

One would think that, if the USA Today Top 25 were well researched, that the teams on the list would be fairly static, with maybe a loss here or there, but otherwise remaining fairly constant. That is not the case. It changes all the time, teams lose and move out, go up, down, etc. It gives weight to my argument that the list itself is created hypothetically upon the popularity of individual stars that might be Army All-Stars at the end of the year or are heavily recruited D1 players, and less upon the quality of the whole team. This actually probably shortchanges Bowling Green, but the whole concept of a national ranking is really pretty empty.

Over rated (nationally)

I love my Purples but in no way shape or form are they one of the top 25 teams in the nation. Maybe not even top 50 or 75.

And quite honestly there is no way to tell if I am right or wrong. Either way, I'll take what they give us and keep passing out Purple kool aid for all to drink.

Did you feel the same in 2002 when Trinity gave up 56 to Male?

I understand the point you are making but sometimes, even great teams give up more points than they might because the other offense is clicking.

If McCallie losing 2 downgrades BGs status then doesn't Trinity losing 2 downgrade Ensqorth's status?

Probably, that all figures into the equation. To be more specific, the Colerain loss probably not so much but the Indiana loss would need close inspection.

I am glad you understand the point. As to your question, that would take a some research and reflection that is beyond this thread.

Purplhaze and some others may have to look this up but 36 points scored on purples very rarely happens. It has been few and far between.

I just know what i saw with my own eyes. Mccallie is a very good team. Maybe tbey were just on that night but to get out of their with a win was a real feat.

I not super concerned about the ranking (i didnt start this thread) i just know i witnessed an unreal game that reminded me of male trinity a few years back.

Big Big game coming up when they face Blackmon especially if Blackmon continues to win in the fashion they are winning. If the Purples win this one & Trinity continues to struggle then Bowling will no doubt have a legit claim to #1 in the state!!!
