Then why single out BG? What is the formula for having Trinity ranked? What is the formula for having Booker T Washington ranked?

 

We do agree on one thing, that the national rankings are bogus, but it is bogus for all the teams, not just 1.

 

No one has been able to answer your question because no one here is on the committee that ranks the teams and don't know how they come up with their Oscar Mayer Bologna in the end.

 

I'm also curious what rankings are you looking at? The one's I have looked at don't have any KY schools in the top 25.

 

at the end of the day, playing head to head is the best way to prove what team is the best. Trinity,BG,Highlands,X & Scott co should always play each other annual that way there is no question as to who the best team in the state is. Now as far as national rankings all you can do is play the best national powers near your state & sometimes travel across a couple of states to play a national power. This system is not perfect but this gives you a pretty good indicator of who the best teams are nationally.

One final thought. We were fortunate to win the TN Class 5A State Championship last season (our second in four years). On that Sunday afternoon of our Community Celebration, as OUR kids walked across the gym floor to receive their rings from our coaching staff everyone was standing and cheering. What a feeling for our kids, our school and our community. I didn’t talk to anyone who was worried about if we were ranked in any of the National Prep Top 25 rankings (or even where we ranked against the TN Class 6A or Private Division State champs). We won 15 games and that’s all we played. Our biggest regular season wins were against the defending Class 5A State Champions and a Class 6A State semi-finalist (plus a couple of big rivals) and some pretty good teams in the playoffs. Not too bad, but again, no national headlines here. We didn’t knock off any “National Powers” on our journey to Cookeville.

 

The point is: It doesn’t matter if it’s Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida or Texas. OUR kids brought home the “Gold Ball” and we couldn’t be prouder!

We get it Guru...you don't think BG should be ranked...if BG beats Blackman then you'll start a "Is Blackman really representative of quality TN football and how should this affect if BG should really be ranked" thread. As a BG supporter who pays money to be a part of this site, it just gets a little old seeing these same-themed threads pop up over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over again.

If the Purples defeat Blackman it will be a HUGE statement. While Blackman has historically not been able to climb past Oakland, Riverdale or Smyrna in one of the toughest districts in the South, this year may be the year that changes. They've already downed Siegel (we play them tonight in Murfreesboro) by 3 TDs, Riverdale by 5 TDs (although Riverdale is down this year by their standards) and Mount Juliet (Class 6A State semi-finalists the past 2 years) by 4 TDs. IMO, Blackman is a very serious threat to win the TN Class 6A Championship this year.

 

While living in Western KY during the 1990s, I remember all those great BG teams of that era. Looks like it's elevated to a new level. Best of luck to the Purples!

What do we know about Siegel that beat McCallie last week 34 to 31?

 

About Siegel:

 

We journeyed down to Murfreesboro last night and it wasn’t pretty. Siegel scored TDs on their first 8 possessions (usually in 2 to 6 plays) to lead 54-7 before we added two late TDs to close the score to 54-21. Like most of the Class 6A Murfreesboro teams, they were huge, fast and deep. It might have been a better game if we weren’t the “walking wounded,” especially losing our returning Mr. Football RB in the first game of the season. Hard to replace 3,500 yards of rushing, however, that’s the way it is.

 

I’m not one to buy into the “if team A beat B by 2 TDs, and B beat C by 3 TDs, then A should beat C by 5 TDs. Too many factors involved to try and simplify that equation. However, a couple of points concerning the upcoming Bowling Green v. Blackman contest.

 

If you look at scores, McAllie may be better than I thought. If they were able to hang with Siegel and only lose by 3, that seems more impressive now. It may be the Purples beat a much better team than first thought.

 

Given the Siegel team I saw last night lost to Blackman by 3 TDs, this Blackman Blaze squad must be for real. Granted it was Week 0 and Siegel was converting from a spread offense the past several years to a run-oriented read-option attack. This Siegel team also defeated Murfreesboro Oakland (a team with at least three D1 prospects) by 10 in the second game of the year.

 

FWIW, if Bowling Green can defeat Blackman they will have defeated a TN team at the very top of the heap. What that means for “national rankings,” I’ll leave that for folks much more versed than me.

They may have played their best, but whatever it was - they were good. They may get their butts handed to them tonight at Ensworth but it will be fun to watch how they do. Purples will have a few games of "yawners" and "running clocks" but trust me they are well aware of how good Blackman is and it should be a great High School football game.

I agree 5 Star. Per the "power rankings" Ensworth should be a 3 TD fav. We'll see if they had a super effort at home vs. the Purples or if they are a legit threat to the Big 3 in D2 here in TN.
