That must explain all those tough opponents they played on that run... If you'll remember, that was when Louisville was mostly playing Louisville, and a lot of that Louisville was bad, really bad.

Anyone saying this is the "best Owensboro team ever" is officially insane. They may be good but this team is NOWHERE near some of the teams they have had. We're talking about a school that has had multiple occasions of having NFL talent on the field as well as 3+ D1A guys out there at once. This Red Devil team doesn't have that.

McCallie is loaded with speed...much more than the Purples have. If BG wins the next two, I agree it may be the greatest feat ever accomplished by BG Football. A dam can only hold for so long against constant high-end pressure. Owensboro is no automatic win either. The Red Devils know how to beat BG and are the sons of men who have beat BG too. The next two games are a tall order for BG.

Trinity won 50 never playing the Purples...tells me all I need to know...

BG is 1-1 against Highlands in Championship games. I agree that the 2011 Highlands would have been a tall order for BG to beat but I have a hard time picking the 2012 Highlands team against the Purples and the 2013 team wasn't within 21 points of that version of the Purples. This year, who knows. But I will venture to say that the Purples may be a bit more concerned with Cov. Cath than Highlands in the coming years.

Look at the quality of T's wins during their streak...BG's wins demolish that. Blackman last year was better than any Highlands team has been from 2011 to now...complete with better players at about every position. I agree that the 2011 T team was considerably better than the 2011 BG team simply by talent alone. BG would have crushed Trinity last year. Those two teams are not even in the same league. 2011 & 2012, I give the edge to Trinity.

A. Christian Co. is pretty bad this year on defense so I wouldn't put to much stock in Caldwell's performance against them. B. I don't believe DeSales could beat any of the top 5 in class 5A this year. C. You can't just base your ideas on how DeSales would do against larger school teams based on last year. Last year was a super special State Championship year for DeSales...do a little homework and look at the previous 4-5 years against traditional larger schools that are football schools...not a lot of wins there to speak of. D. Saying that WC should handle DeSales this year after all they lost as a 2A school is just logical. App. State might catch a bad Michigan team with their best team and rock out against them, but overall, in the long run of things, Michigan is going to beat App State 95% of the time...and I'm going to hear it for this, but I'll say the Warren Central would beat DeSales at least 80% of the time if they played every year. E. And the irony of my man Doubletake liking a post about a "smaller" school playing up against "lager" class schools is almost too much for me.

If Central does not handle DeSales, I will say that you can go ahead and take them off the "could possibly win 5A" list. Nothing against DeSales, but a 3A team that returns just 6 total players who were starters should not be able to hang with Warren Central who returns just about everyone on their defense and has the Feggins kid as an addition on their offense.

South Warren has like 6 or 7 D1 DB's and they're 5A...wait, no they're, what, 3A?...but they have 5A numbers...and all those D1 guys...I'm confused. Anyways, if South Warren and Simon Kenton played, just imagine all the talent in the defensive secondary.

This would be a 13 page thread if it were titled "Best DB on Highlands JV Team"....

No way Mercer is Top 5 this year...next year, I can see with the mass exodous of the East Powers in 4A, but no way this year...in fact, look at their remaining schedule after this week where I have little doubt they'll beat West Jess. Central Hardin Anderson County Lexington Catholic Marion County Taylor County Boyle County Paul Laurence Dunbar I see two more possible wins on that remaining schedule (Marion/Taylor)...At best, I see Mercer finishing this year 4-6 and at worst 2-8. That's a tough schedule they're playing and it doesn't bode well for a team that seems to be banged up.

Central lost in a scrimmage to a very bad John Hardin team and then struggled to beat a 3A Bourbon Co. team that was missing several key players and that made a name for itself over the past year playing pretty much nobody. I'm still not sold on the Dragons. If Central fails to score a lot of points on 2A DeSales this week I will really not be sold on them. Not saying that Bourbon and DeSales are not good teams to be playing, but a top tier 5A team should be blowing those schools out. JMO.

Highlands' coaching alone will allow them to win this one by 2-3 scores. Station has great looking players and certainly plays hard and fast, but they honestly look like they're playing a backyard football game.

...and then it will get cold...and then it will rain...against a Murray'like team...and that will be the end of them.

Lex Cath win easily as long as it doesn't continue to shoot itself in the foot. The Knights have a very good football team with an excellent trigger man. I think people are seeing the score of the BG game and not realizing that it was a much closer game.

I think T fans are resting pretty comfortably right now...even if BG were to beat X, there is still a big blue monster of McCallie standing in the path...and McCallie is crushing teams in TN right now.

Trinity just doesn't have top shelf talent right now. I do agree that they'd be a 9-1, 8-2 team if they were playing a purely in-state schedule. But I disagree that the regional schedule helps them with recruiting. The state's biggest recruits (Harris - Mad South, Brown - W. East, Sindelar - Caldwell) all play at small schools that play very small school schedules. Getting recruited has little to do with the school you play at anymore now with the prevalence of camps, Hudl, and coaches who now know how to get their kids names out there.

Warren Central Lexington Catholic Campbell Co. That's three times in their last seven games where they built a quick and sizable lead and then almost lost it...or for your mathematical analysis side, a 43% rate of occurrence during that most recent span of games.

This is particularly true in two cases: 1) Smaller schools - as 75 said, they can make a run with a great class and then discover there is not much behind them, The big schools can often weather the storm a little better as the drop off is not normally as steep from one class to the next. 2) A school wins it all in the last year of the 2-year contract cycles. Often when a team wins it all, it was pretty good the year before too. That's two solid years which will result in a lot of what might have been winnable non-district opponents opting to not re-up their contracts. Hence, you get tougher opponents the year following winning it all. ...and then the killer, when #1 happens and so does #2...then you see quite the nasty post-championship year.

In that case, Highlands seems to be showing a bit of a "repetitive instances of occurrence" of building an early lead and then blowing it, and having to hold on for dear life at the end...but I am sure you also have 40 years of repetitive instances of occurrence analysis as well.... Regardless, anyone who does not mark it as a moral victory is either part of a program that is named Trinity, X, BG, Male, Scott Co., and a few others or has some pretty unrealistic ideas about what their program is capable of on a year-to-year basis.

I would rank Manual above X...and maybe T. Manual certainly has better high end talent than both, but the coaching of T I would have to say probably keeps them ahead.

I'm not the one who may need to be concerned. But the early stages of trend do seem to be forming.
